Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who was the very first host of "Family Feud"?

Answer: Richard Dawson

Richard Dawson hosted the show from 1976 until 1985, and then again during the 1994-1995 season.
2. "Family Feud" was a spin-off of what other popular game show?

Answer: "Match Game"

"Family Feud" was based on the Super Match round of "Match Game". During the Super Match, the contestant tried to guess the most popular answer given for a fill-in-the-blank question.
3. What feature was added to the show in 1992 in an attempt to boost ratings?

Answer: Bullseye Round

The Bullseye Round provided the chance for families to play for up to $20,000, based on the how many times they came up with the number one answer. The Bankroll round replaced the Bullseye during the 1994-1995 season.
4. In what year did Ray Combs begin hosting "Family Feud?"

Answer: 1988

The show went off the air in 1985, but was revived in 1988 with Ray Combs taking over where Richard Dawson had left off. Ray then hosted the show until 1994.
5. During the early days of "Family Feud", how many seconds was the first contestant in Fast Money given to answer the questions?

Answer: 15

The second contestant then had 20 seconds to answer their questions. Both these times were increased in later versions of the show.
6. There have always been 5 contestants on each team.

Answer: False

During the 1994-1995 run, the number of contestants on each team was cut down to 4. The change didn't prove to be successful, and on later versions of the game they changed it back.
7. Louie Anderson began hosting the show in what year?

Answer: 1999

"Family Feud" had been off the air since 1995. When they brought it back to life in 1999, they introduced new theme music and hired popular comedian Louie Anderson to host. He hosted from 1999 until 2002.
8. "Family Feud" went off the air after Louie Anderson left the show and before Richard Karn took over.

Answer: False

Unlike when Ray Combs and Louie Anderson began their hosting duties, Richard Karn took over immediately after his predecessor left. The show was never cancelled during this time.
9. Who was the regular announcer on "Family Feud" during Richard Dawson's and Ray Combs' reigns?

Answer: Gene Wood

Gene Wood has been the announcer for countless numbers of game shows, but is likely best known for "Family Feud". Burton Richardson took over announcing when Louie Anderson became host of the show. Johnny Olsen and Rod Roddy announced for "The Price Is Right".

However, Rod Roddy did temporarily take over as sub-announcer on "Family Feud" for a short period of time while Ray Combs was host.
10. Which of these alternate titles was "Family Feud" once known as?

Answer: "Family Feud Challenge"

The CBS daytime version of the show became known as "Family Feud Challenge" in 1992, when it added the Bullseye round and became an hour long. Around this same time, the syndicated version of the show became known as "The New Family Feud".
