Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who hosted "Family Feud" when it first premiered in 1976?

Answer: Richard Dawson

At first, "New Treasure Hunt" host Geoff Edwards was considered, but elected not to host. Dawson hosted the show from 1976-1985 on ABC.
2. Which famed game show theme writer composed the original theme to "Family Feud?"

Answer: Robert Israel

The original theme was an expanded version of a prize cue from "The Price Is Right." It was re-recorded with synthesized drums in 1988 for the Ray Combs era. Robert Israel himself has also composed the theme to "Match Game."
3. Which of the composers wrote the "party" theme to "Family Feud?"

Answer: John Lewis Parker

Parker originally composed the "party" theme with a portion of Bob Israel's original theme. When the theme was remixed in 2002, the portion was gone.

Sheila Cole wrote the theme to "The Price is Right." Stanley Blits is the director of Music Design Group, which made the theme to the 1987 "Blockbusters" with Bill Rafferty.
4. In total, how many years did Richard Dawson host "Family Feud?"

Answer: Ten

Dawson's original ABC run lasted nine years (1976-1985). He then came back to host for one season in syndication from 1994-1995.
5. During Richard Karn's first season, which version of the theme was brought back for a short time?

Answer: 1988

Albeit edited, the 1988 theme was brought back for Karn's first season. However, it didn't go well with the set, and it was scuttled in 2003. It was, however, remixed that same year to have a techno beat like the "party" themes, but it never made it on the air.
6. The theme used on the 1988-94 Combs version was also used on Dawson's 1994-95 return.

Answer: False

The theme was revamped in 1994 for Dawson's return, using techno-ish jazz instruments. The set was also redone. A similar move was made on the Doug Davidson syndicated version of "The Price is Right" that same year.
7. Which of these titles have NOT served as the alternate title for the American "Family Feud" at one point or another?

Answer: Bert's Family Feud

"Family Feud Challenge" and "The New Family Feud" were both used during the Combs era in 1992. "Bert's Family Feud" is the title for the Australian "Family Feud," hosted by Aussie comedian Bert Newton, who in my opinion looks a lot like Gene Wood.
8. In 1992, to boost ratings even higher, "Feud" producers added a new round. What was it called?

Answer: Bullseye

The Bullseye round, nowadays, is believed to be the reason for the show's declining ratings in 1994. The Bankroll round was a re-tooled Bullseye round and was seen on Dawson's return. Fast Money is the bonus game of "Family Feud" and has been there since the pilot. Super Match is the bonus round on "Match Game" that "Family Feud" spun off of.
9. Ray Combs went on which two Goodson-Todman shows in 1988 to promote his new version of the "Feud?"

Answer: "Card Sharks" and "The Price Is Right"

"Match Game" had been off the air since 1984, and would not make another television appearance until 1990 on ABC with Ross Shafer. "Blockbusters" had gone off the air the previous year, in 1987.
10. "Family Feud" was partially inspired by the real-life feud between two families, the descendants of which appeared on a special week in 1980. Who were they?

Answer: Hatfield and McCoy

At the end of Friday's show, the families had a "shootout." The Madvig & Speir families were the feuders on the pilot of "Family Feud" in 1976. What'd you think of this quiz? Drop me a line, hear? "Love ya, see you here on the 'Feud.'"
