Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Leg 9, teams flew to what Croatian city?

Answer: Split

Leaving Brienz, Switzerland, teams hopped on a train to Zurich and headed to the airport to nab tickets on the first flight southeast to Split, Croatia on the edge of the Aegean Sea. Upon landing, teams would need to have a taxi driver bring them to Bacvice Beach to pick up the Travelocity Roaming Gnome, their traveling companion for this leg of the race. To get him, however, teams had to deliver six drinks to beach-goers and return to the nearby bar to get their clue.
2. At the Marjan Cave Church (in Leg 9), teams delivered which of these to a monk?

Answer: Bread

Once teams grabbed their Roaming Gnomes they would be able to race to Marjan Cave Church on the largest hill in Split. Here, with their Gnome facilitating the transaction, they needed to use a pulley system to deliver a loaf of bread up the side of a rock wall and to a monk waiting up top.

The monk would trade the bread for their next clue, a Detour choice sending teams off to the water at Kasjuni Beach.
3. In Leg 9, none of the teams completed which Detour option in Croatia?

Answer: 'Washed in from the Ocean'

Arriving at Kasjuni Beach, teams encountered a Detour but all teams inevitably took the same choice. None of them were able to finish 'Washed in from the Ocean', which asked them to search the waters off the beach with a metal detector to find one goblet and five coins.

In 'Poetry in Motion', teams instead had to memorize a lengthy tongue twister poem while taking a rough flying tube ride across the bay to their judge. If the team members could say their parts properly, they would get their next clue, but if they failed they would need to take the whole ride again.
4. Of the eighteen Roman soldiers who were presented to the teammates in the Leg 9 Road Block (in Croatia), how many were marked?

Answer: Five

When they finished their poetry lesson, teams returned to Central Split to find the catacomb entrance of the famous Diocletian's Palace and, there, one member of each team needed to receive marching orders, donning traditional garb before heading into the senator's room.

There, the participating teammates (Korey, Nicole, Floyd, Leo, Christie, and Bret) needed to watch as eighteen Roman soldiers moved in random formation. If they could properly identify five that were marked with ribbons after their shifting, they could get their next clue.
5. Which team was eliminated from the race in Croatia in Leg 9?

Answer: Chris and Bret

To wrap up their ninth leg of the race, teams had to get across Croatia's oldest port by grabbing a dinghy from St. Nicholas Pier across the water to Matejuska Pier. Tyler and Korey stayed ahead of Nicole and Victor long enough to land on the mat in first and win their fourth consecutive leg, beating their three consecutive win streak from their original season. Travelocity provided the trip again, awarding the pair a trip for two to the Riviera Maya. Chris and Bret struggled on both sides of the Detour and, though they arrived at the task in first, they fell to the back of the pack and were eliminated, leaving only one team in the race that wasn't originally from "The Amazing Race".
6. Though their tenth leg of the race wasn't in this specific Dutch city, teams flew there to catch a train. Which was it?

Answer: Amsterdam

Off again! Teams ripped open clues in Split, Croatia's picturesque port to find that they needed to fly to Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Upon touching down at Schiphol Airport, they could hop into a train and make their way to the town of Kampen. At 9:00am, they would be able to grab a tandem bicycle for use throughout the leg and head to Jachthaven to search on foot for their next clue.
7. Which Detour task in Leg 10 (in the Netherlands) involved a cow?

Answer: 'High'

At Jachthaven, teams received a Detour clue that led them back to their tandem bikes to visit a handful of destinations. In 'High', teams biked out to a farm to help locals load a large, fake cow into a trailer to be brought into town. Then, riding behind the vehicle all the way to Nieuwe Toren, they had to use ropes and pulleys to hoist the faux livestock to the top of the building in forty seconds or, else, try again.

In 'Dry', teams instead went to a local field to pole vault across a ditch to collect cheese and eggs which they could bike into Kampen and safely deliver at the town market. All teams completed 'High' except for Nicole and Victor.
8. Whose photo did not appear on the Double U-Turn board (either as a user or a recipient) in the Netherlands in Leg 10?

Answer: Colin and Christie

When teams finished their Detour tasks they were shocked by the announcement of another unforeseen Double U-Turn. Tandem biking to IJsselkade, they could get their next clue and make a choice as to whether or not they used the race mechanic to hinder other teams. Leo and Jamal decided to use the U-Turn to send Nicole and Victor (in response to their using the U-Turn vote on them in Switzerland) while Nicole and Victor used theirs on Becca and Floyd, sending them to complete 'Dry'.

After this, teams could take their tandem bikes back to the Kampen Train Station.
9. In Leg 10, teams could only travel to the Pit Stop with three boats.

Answer: True

Once they dropped off their bikes, teams could drive themselves to their next clue waiting for them at the village of Smit Giethoorn. There, teams could hop into a marked boat and motor around searching the quaint canal village for two additional boats that they could take along and lash to their own to form a boat train. If they could locate their boats they could leave out the other side of the village and take them to the next Pit Stop.
10. Which team was eliminated at the end of Leg 10?

Answer: Becca and Floyd

Once teams had all three boats (the one they started with and the two they nabbed from the village) they could navigate out across Bovenwijde Lake to the island containing their tenth Pit Stop. Colin and Christie were the first to arrive, managing to get their boats and check in to take their second win of the race.

This time, they took $7,500 USD each as their prize. The last team to make it to the Pit Stop was Becca and Floyd who, after getting lost heading to their first Detour task, were U-Turned, held back by a broken egg on their second task, and eliminated in fifth place.
