Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Leg 9, teams traveled southwest to what Caribbean destination for an international leg?

Answer: Mexico City

Leaving the coast of P.E.I., teams opened some early morning clues telling them to take flights via Toronto to Mexico City, nearly five thousand kilometres away. Upon arriving in the Mexican capital, teams had to navigate to the Monumento a la Revolución in Plaza de la República Their next clue would be found when they took the elevator to the top of the monument, but it would be an unconventional one-- all of the teams received messages from loved ones on iPads, and those family members gave them their next clue to send them to the nearby Frontón Mexico building.
2. In Leg 9, teams participated in which of these dextrous sports for their Road Block?

Answer: Jai Alai

Reaching Frontón Mexico, virtually across the street from Plaza de la República, teams collected a Road Block task asking for a racer who 'wants to live the hi-life?' For this tough task, one member of each team needed to get dressed to play some jai alai on a court. Using their wicker cesta, they needed to correctly land one serve, bouncing it against the opposite wall to properly land their shot in the designated range.

They would get three throws before heading to the back of a line. Both Courtneys, Dylan, Mellisa, and Martina completed this task.
3. Which was the only team to complete the 'Mercado' Detour task in Leg 9?

Answer: Nancy and Mellisa

Completing the Road Block, teams received the Detour task which sent them through the busy streets of Mexico City. Their task? 'Muertos' or 'Mercado'. In 'Muertos', teams traveled by taxi to Fuente de los Coyotes where both members needed to paint each others' faces in the proper designs to celebrate Day of the Dead. Once both team members had their faces completed they could move on.

In 'Mercado', teams instead went to Central de Abasto, the world's largest market, where they had to us a shopping list and find four marked stalls to buy cilantro, green chili peppers, onions, tomatoes, and limes. Teams then had to combine the ingredients and make a true pico de gallo for their next clue. Nancy and Mellisa were the only ones to complete 'Mercado'; all the rest did 'Muertos'.
4. The final task in Leg 9 forced teams to learn a script in which language?

Answer: Spanish

After completing their Detour task, teams headed to the La Condesa neighbourhood for a general task requiring a lot of memorization. Arriving at the set of a classic telenovela (called 'La Casa de Pasiones y Verjeunzas'), both team members needed to perform a melodramatic scene in Spanish, choosing two of four characters and memorizing the Spanish dialogue, hitting their marks while the cameras rolled. Racers could choose from the roles of Humberto, Julio, Sylvia, and Constanza, and if the director felt they performed to a high standard, they could get their next clue.
5. Which team was eliminated in Leg 9?

Answer: Nancy and Mellisa

After the telenovela task, teams were told to make their way to Alameda Central to find Jon at the Pit Stop. Dylan and Kwame excelled during the leg, staying ahead from the Road Block onward, and after nine legs they won their first, sharing the prize of a trip to Sydney, Australia.

The leg ended with a footrace between the trailing teams and Adam and Courtney narrowly outran Nancy and Mellisa to the mat. With no non-elimination legs remaining, there was no chance of being saved again; Nancy and Mellisa were eliminated in fifth place on a bad taxi ride-- they left the final task in third.
6. Leg 10 took teams to what New Brunswick city?

Answer: Fredericton

Flying back to Canada (once again via Toronto), teams needed to travel from Mexico City and up to Fredericton, the capital city of New Brunswick. Upon arriving, teams visited Officer's Square for a task in the Garrison District in which they had to watch two different changing of the guard ceremonies (one in the square and one at city hall). If they could identify the one difference between the ceremonies, a single extra step at the Officer's Square ceremony, they could get their next clue and head to a Detour task at Canadian Forces Base Gagetown.
7. The Detour choices found in New Brunswick in Leg 10-- 'Fit' and 'Fly'-- were limited station tasks. This meant that two teams completed each task.

Answer: False

While teams completed a limited station Detour at CFB Gagetown, only Dylan and Kwame were able to complete 'Fit' to the exacting specifications of the military. In 'Fit', teams had to complete a military force fitness exam, finishing four physically demanding tasks to proper guidelines (this included 20m rushes, sandbag lifts, intermittent loaded shuttles, and a sandbag drag). If both team members could complete the tasks properly and in order in the eighteen minute time limit, they could get their next clue. All three other teams took turns in 'Fly' in which they climbed into a Griffon helicopter flight simulator and flew over a computer generated Montreal to land on the Bell Center's roof within five minutes.
8. The second Face Off of the race (found in Leg 10) involved what activity?

Answer: Wheelchair basketball

After the Detour, teams were sent to the University of New Brunswick campus for their second Face Off task. For this, teams took turns going head-to-head in a fifteen minute game of wheelchair basketball. Teams would be paired with a qualified team member but they would effectively need to beat each other in points to continue on.

The last team would, as usual, need to wait out a predetermined amount of time before continuing on to their next task. This ended up being Phil and Martina.
9. In Leg 10's Road Block, teams needed to learn about different works of art created by which of these?

Answer: Indigenous people

After the Face Off, teams headed to Downtown Fredericton to find the Beaverbrook Art Gallery and their final task of the leg. The Road Block here asked: 'Who thinks a picture is worth at least one word?' For this, the selected team members (Taylor, Kwame, Adam, and Martina) were required to identify six paintings described to them in the Indigenous Wolastoquey language.

They would be given questions about the paintings from a local elder (again, not in English) and they would need to recite the names back. Completion of the task led teams to the final Pit Stop.
10. Which team was eliminated in New Brunswick in Leg 10?

Answer: Martina and Phil

After all of the tasks in Leg 10, teams needed to make their way to Government House on the banks of the Saint John River in Fredericton. Here, Taylor and Courtney won the leg, their fifth overall, and with it they earned a trip for two to Buenos Aires, Argentina.

After ten legs, Martina and Phil ended up being the last eliminated team, placing fourth overall and sending the remaining three teams into the finals.
11. In the final leg of the race, teams flew west to what city for a penultimate Road Block?

Answer: Calgary

The final three teams left Fredericton, New Brunswick at the start of Leg 11 and flew 3,500km west, via Toronto, to the city of Calgary where they had to search the airport for a Road Block task. There, one team member needed to 'play it by ear', working with NavCanada's air traffic control tower at YYC.

After learning about ATIS, teams needed to participate in an air traffic control simulation, reciting a thirty second long ATIS transmission containing information about the weather. If they recited this verbatim to the controller at the top of the tower, they could get their next clue. Both Courtneys and Kwame completed this task.
12. In Leg 11, teams raced to the top of what Rocky Mountain?

Answer: Mount Fable

Completing the Calgary Airport Road Block, teams needed to head to Apron 2 of the airport to board a helicopter bound for Mount Fable in the Fairholme Range of the Rocky Mountains. Upon landing on a plateau nine thousand feet up, they had the opportunity to continue on foot to the summit to meet their next clue box overlooking the mountains.

When this was done, their next clue instructed them to take the helicopters to Canmore, Alberta and then make their way, by taxi, to Sunshine Village in Banff.
13. What animal did team members need to handle in the final Road Block of the race in Alberta (in Leg 11)?

Answer: Dogs

Arriving at Sunshine Village, teams found a clue box when they took a gondola to the top of the mountain and inside was a second Road Block, this time asking for who would be "top dog", but insisting on the alternate partner based on who completed the air traffic control task. Taylor, Adam, and Dylan then completed two different tasks, the first involving being harnessed to ski dogs for two laps of skijoring-- maneuvering around a track on skis while being pulled by sled dogs-- and the second involving riding a GT Racer down a marked course to complete the Slush Cup.

When complete, teams could head to the Banff National Park Administration Building.
14. The final memory challenge of the race involved collecting which of these from shops around Banff?

Answer: Souvenirs

Arriving in Banff proper, teams were told to exit the race through the gift shop, so to speak. For their final task, a memory task based on the events in the race, teams had to search the marked souvenir shops of Banff's main drag, Banff Avenue to find countless depicting people, places, and things seen during the race.

Then, they had to bring them back to the administration building and properly display them to get their next clue. Ten stores were marked and teams would need to find two different souvenirs from each of the eleven legs of the race (for a total of twenty-two distinct items).
15. Which team won "The Amazing Race: Canada 6"?

Answer: Courtney and Adam

After their memory task, teams were told to head to the Bow River to ride a zipline and then paddle a raft downstream to the Fairmont Banff Springs Golf Course where they could disembark and run to the finish line on the fifth hole of the tunnel line course.

Despite never having placed first on any leg and having one of the lowest overall standings of any team on any "Amazing Race" season (internationally), Adam and Courtney were the first to cross the finish line winning themselves the $250,000 prize, a trip for two around the globe, and 2018 Chevrolet Traverse Redline vehicles for each of them. Taylor and Courtney arrived in second followed by Dylan and Kwame in third.
