Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the card game that is central to "The Card Game Job"?

Answer: Spirits Ruse

Jim Cordozar, the team's target in the episode, is obsessed with "Spirits Ruse", because it represents one of the few things he has lost at. The venture caputalist bought the castle owned by the game's designer, but mostly as a real estate investment.

According to Breanna, "Spirits Ruse" is a combination of "Magic the Gathering", "Legends of the Five Rings" and "Sorcerer". She states that it is "the best card game ever." In cutting to the chase, Eliot says the game is like "rock, paper, scissors." Breanna gives an inspiring speech at the end of the episode about what the game meant to people who saw themselves as outsiders.
2. What is the name of Michael's daughter?

Answer: Jenna

The episode opens with a father and daughter in a park. He is having trouble paying for her obviously expensive medication. Jenna then collapses. Desperate to save his daughter, Michael turns to the Leverage team for help. Jenna has a disease called Swale Fever. While a cure for her disease is possible, Sophie points out that it would be less profitable for pharmaceutical companies than selling continual treatments.

In the end, Jenna gets the cure and the team gets Pendis Pharmaceuticals to cover all the medical bills. Sophie viewed this job as a tribute to Nathan, who lost his son to medical greed.

Michael was played by Munda Razooki. He appeared as a Turkish guard in the original "Leverage" back in 2008. Acting since 2005, the Iraq-American also includes "Modern Family" (2011) and "Parenthood" (2014) among his credits.

Jenna was played by Hannah Devlin, a young actress who starred in the comedy series "The Virtual End" (2020).

Lucy is an employee of Cordocorp that Parker puts through the human resources meeting from Hell. Billie is Breann's cover alias at Cordocorp.
3. What is the name of the evil venture capitalist the team targets in "The Card Game Job"?

Answer: Jim Cordozar

Cordozar is the CEO of Cordocorp, a venture capital firm which buys up pharmaceutical companies and then jacks up the prices on life saving drugs. Cordozar is clearly modeled on Martin Shkreli, the venture capitalist who jacked up the price on Daraprim. In a real life case of "Leverage" like justice, Shkreli went to prison for securities fraud.

The final faceoff is a card tournament at the renaissance faire. Breanne uses her tech skills to figure out exactly how Cordozar is cheating, and she neutralizes his advantage.

Cordozar's muscle man is named Bolo, a semi-subtle reference to "Enter the Dragon" (1973).

Cordzar was played by Max Sheldon. He started acting in 2014, and his most notable credit is the 2019 film "Nighthawks."

Darren Hoffman was an evil pharmaceutical exec in "The Double Blind Job" (2010) episode of the original leverage. Carter is Cardozar's computer genius.
4. What is the name of tech genius who designs the algorithms that make Cordocorp successful?

Answer: Carter

Carter Legrange is the computer genius behind Cordozar's success. He writes the computer programs that allow Cordocorp to target companies. Breanne has a mondo geek moment discussing computer algorithms with Carter.

Carter was played by Kunal Dedheker. He has been working in films and television since 2014. He does have experience as a tech geek, playing a developer on "Silicon Valley" (2018).
5. Who played Deric Springer, the game designer?

Answer: French Stewart

French Stewart gives a quirky edge to the game designer, who has given up success to live on an ashram in India. Carter manages to track Springer down using an algorithm.

Springer designed the card game "Spirits Ruse" in the 1990s, and an entire geek subculture has arisen around the game, including an annual renaissance faire. Cordozar falsely claims to be a fan of the game, which leads Spinger to want to sell the company to him.

In the end, Breanna saves the day by reminding Springer of the real meaning of the game to her and other fans. He refuses to sell to Cordozar, and gives Breanna the Queen Ziel card.

French Stewart, and the other choices, were on "Third Rock from The Sun" (1996-2001). Stewart has been acting regularly in films and television since 1992. He generally plays quirky, eccentric characters. He has had recurring roles on "Hercules" (1998-99), "The Middle" (2013) and "Mom" (2013-2020).
6. What landmark does Sophie suggest they sell to their target in "The Card Game Job"?

Answer: The Brooklyn Bridge

"Lets go sell Mister Cordozar the Brooklyn Bridge" states Sophie. They are counting on Cordozar's competitive nature to draw him into the con. In reality, they hope to sell the gaming company that produces "Spirit Ruse" to Cordozar in order to place him in a financial bind.

Sophie poses as a developer, seeking to turn the castle into a theme park. Harry is prepared to pose as Deric Springer when the real Springer shows up.
7. What is the name of the card that is the heart of the treasure hunt in "The Card Game Job"?

Answer: Queen Ziel

According to Breanna, the Queen Ziel card is the "Holy Grail" of the game. It was the first card designed by Springer when he developed the game.

While Parker found the vault, Cardozar had taken the card ahead of time. But Harry lowers the boom on him, noting that he has committed fraud, which will lose him Pendis Pharmaceuticals and get him a lifetime ban from the Food and Drug Adminstration.
8. Where does Parker find the vault containing the quest card?

Answer: Underneath an eight limbed tree

Breanna determines that the vault is located near the pond when she sees a "Lady of the Lake" card. The final clue falls in place when Sophie reads a poem (Magic's Breeze) that given hidden instructions, which are quite easy if you are in the correct place.

The team finds more than the Queen Ziel card, as Cordozar has been keeping his corporate records in the vault. The discover all his dirty secrets, including the cure for Swale Fever, the disease that is killing Jenna.
9. "Lets go steal a _____." Steal what in "The Card Game Job"?

Answer: A golden ticket

Breanna likens the Queen Ziel card to the Golden Ticket from "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" which leads Sophie to says "Lets go steal a golden ticket." Parker hopes that the Renaissance Faire has a chocolate river.
10. What costume does Eliot wear at the Renaissance Faire?

Answer: Glen the Savage

Eliot is Glen the Savage and Sophie is Melana, the poetry mistress. They keep Springer distracted and away from Cordozar. Eliott participates in a joust, wearing an inflatable pool toy in the shape of a dragon, which proves somewhat embarrassing. Eliott redeems himself by fencing with two of Cordozar's henchmen; it's no surprise he beats them badly.
