Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How does Sherlock Holmes describe himself?

Answer: High-functioning sociopath

When Anderson calls him a psychopath, Sherlock "corrects" him with this comeback. Although he likely isn't a sociopath, he doesn't seem to understand many human emotions (like why a mother would still remember her stillborn daughter years later) and flat-out tells Watson that he doesn't care about others because caring won't help solve a crime.
2. Sherlock is in Mrs. Hudson's good graces because he prevented her husband's execution.

Answer: False

Mrs. Hudson is one of the few people whom Sherlock acts friendly towards. She gives him a good deal on the flat because he did her a favor by ensuring her husband's execution. Why she is pleased to be rid of her husband, we don't know.
3. Which of the following does Sherlock not correctly deduce from John Watson's phone?

Answer: Harry is John's brother

Harry, it turns out, is short for Harriet, and is thus his sister. Sherlock doesn't expect to get everything right.
4. The cabbie in "A Study in Pink" kills because, as he may die at any time, it's fun to outlive others. What is his other motivation?

Answer: Money goes to his kids every time he kills someone.

Moriarty sponsors him. In the original pilot for this series, Moriarty does not appear - the cabbie just gets a kick out of killing people.
5. At the beginning of "The Blind Banker," John gets into problems with what device?

Answer: Self-checkout at the grocery store

Modern technology can be as perilous as the cases they take. And to top it all off, after he shouts at it and gets it to work, it won't accept his card.
6. What does Sherlock do in order to get into Van Coon's flat building?

Answer: He pretends to be a tenant who locked his keys inside.

This Sherlock tends to disguise himself by acting instead of putting on a costume in order to get the information he needs. He does have a lot of badges that he lifted from Lestrade, though, and uses one to stop a cab in the first episode.
7. Sherlock doesn't take every case offered to him. When he goes to Belarus and talks with a convict accused of murdering his wife, what does he start doing?

Answer: Correcting the convict's grammar

Sherlock figures out early on that the man didn't kill his wife by accident and copes with the boredom of not having a case by correcting his bad grammar, ending with a rather creepy joke when he says the man will not be hung, but "hanged, yes."
8. Life with Sherlock is never dull. In "The Great Game", what does John find in the fridge?

Answer: Severed head

You know, for measuring saliva coagulation after death. Sherlock also keeps human eyeballs in the microwave ("It's an experiment!") and shoots the wall when he's bored. This is what happens when he's off a case...
9. What is in the envelope addressed to Sherlock in episode three?

Answer: Pink phone

It's meant to resemble the pink phone from "A Study in Pink". It's through this phone that Moriarty contacts Sherlock about playing "the game".
10. As revealed at the pool, who is Moriarty?

Answer: Jim from IT

He first poses as Molly's gay boyfriend, then shows up at the pool in the final scene of the season. However, at this point, he could be lying and Moriarty could be someone else, or even a group of people. We'll have to wait for season two!
