1. What is Sherlock's profession, according to him?

Answer: Consulting detective

Sherlock states his profession many times during the show; the first time is in the first episode, "A Study in Pink". He is the only one in the world - he invented the job.

2. What country was John fighting in before he was injured and sent back to England?

Answer: Afghanistan

Sherlock deduces this the first time he sees John, just by looking at him. The first thing he says after borrowing John's phone is 'Afghanistan or Iraq?'.

3. Where does Sherlock first meet Moriarty?

Answer: The hospital

Sherlock is examining a pair of shoes in the hospital lab and Moriarty comes in, pretending to be Molly Hooper's secretly gay boyfriend.

4. In "A Scandal in Belgravia", what does Sherlock take from Buckingham Palace?

Answer: An ashtray

Sherlock deduces that his anonymous employer smokes from seeing it.

5. In "The Empty Hearse", what is Lestrade's reaction to seeing Sherlock again?

Answer: He gives him a hug

Upon seeing Sherlock alive two years after his alleged 'suicide', he freezes for a second, then wraps him in a big hug.

6. What is the name of the man who comes to consult Sherlock about the Hound in "The Hound of Baskerville"?

Answer: Henry Knight

Henry comes to ask Sherlock to find out what really happened to his father. Sherlock and John go to Dartmoor, solve the mystery, and save Henry's life.

7. What is Lestrade's first name?

Answer: Greg

Sherlock can never remember what his name is and always calls him the wrong name.

8. In "The Blind Banker", what book is the Black Lotus' book code based on?

Sherlock doesn't work this out until he sees some German tourists using it to find their way around London. But by then it is a bit too late for John and Sarah...

9. What is the name of the master criminal working against Sherlock in series 3?

Answer: Magnussen

A new master criminal, Charles Augustus Magnussen, turns up in the first episode. He stores information about people in his mind palace, making him almost impossible to stop. Sherlock finds a way, however.

10. How does Sherlock find out what John's middle name is?

Answer: He reads his birth certificate

Sherlock tells us how he found out during his speech at John's wedding, in "The Sign of Three".
