Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. As the sculptor walked away from the body-shaped dirt in the cemetery, what sign of life did that dirt mound display?

Answer: chest rising and falling

The necessary ritual had been performed to bring forth life from the dirt in the form of a Golem.
2. The pamphlet Jacob Weiss showed Scully and Mulder blamed the Jews for what?

Answer: AIDS

The pamphlet read "How AIDS was created by the Jew" and had a sketch of a Jewish man holding a money bag. The leaflets were printed and distributed by neo-Nazi Herb Bjunes, who owned the copy shop across the street from the late Isaac Luria's grocery store.
3. When Derek and Clinton dug up Isaac Luria's grave, did they find Isaac's body?

Answer: yes

Derek had been in the back of the Copy Shop when Scully and Mulder had stopped by. Hearing what they'd suggested about Isaac rising from the grave, they went to check on the body. It was indeed where it belonged, but Clinton got killed while Derek was breaking into the coffin.
4. What happened to the book Mulder found under Isaac Luria's head?

Answer: burst into flame

As Mulder held it up for a closer look, the book burst into flame. When they took it to a Judaic scholar, they found out that it was the Book of Creation, and, according to Jewish beliefs, should not have been buried with the body.
5. What did Ariel Weiss refer to the wedding ring as?

Answer: communal wedding ring

Ariel told Scully and Mulder that her father had been apprentice to the man who'd designed the ring: "Every woman who got married in the synagogue wore this ring as a symbol that she was a queen, her husband a king. And the home they made a castle, not only on their wedding day, but for the rest of their lives together." Ariel and her father had clearly invested a lot of emotion in the wedding.
6. Scully and Mulder found Derek's body at the synagogue. How had he been killed?

Answer: hung

The agents had followed Jacob Weiss upstairs and found Derek's body hanging from the rafters. Then they saw a man walk through some shadows and, chasing him, were knocked down. When Scully pulled her gun and stopped the man, it turned out to be Jacob Weiss. Though he knew he hadn't been alone up there, he told the agents that he had killed the men responsible for Isaac's death so as to protect his daughter.
7. What was the translation for the Hebrew writing on the Golem's hand?

Answer: Truth

As scholar Kenneth Ungar explained, "the early Cabolists believed that a righteous man could actually create a living being from the Earth itself. Fashioned from mud or clay, this creature could only be brought to life by the power of the word. In practical terms, by the direct application of certain secret letter combinations." When Mulder pressed him further, Ungar explained that the word "Emet" would have to be written on the back of the Golem's hand, and that "Emet" means "Truth". Ungar also explained that if the first symbol of the word were erased, the new word would translate as "dead", and the Golem would be destroyed.
8. Who had made the Golem?

Answer: Ariel Weiss

Ariel had resurrected Isaac because she loved him and wanted to see him again. However, as her father tried to explain, the Golem was not really Isaac, and she needed to stop it before it killed anyone else.
9. Did Jacob Weiss die?

Answer: no

Though the Golem tried to kill him by hanging him in the synagogue, Scully and Mulder arrived in time to cut him down and save his life.
10. Who destroyed the Golem?

Answer: Ariel Weiss

Ariel called Isaac (in the form of the Golem) to her, saving Mulder's life. She performed a brief wedding ceremony in Hebrew, then said "I am to my beloved as my beloved is to me" and let Isaac put the communal wedding ring on her finger. Then the two knelt, she kissed his hand, and wiped off the first word written there, effectively turning him back into dirt.
