That record stood until "Dynasty Warriors 7", which had 64 playable characters (excluding characters unlockable as downloadable content). 16 was the number of playable characters in the first "Dynasty Warriors" game, and 41 was the number available in "Dynasty Warriors 6".

Zhang He is a warrior for the Wei Kingdom in Free Mode, although, in his first battle in Musou Mode, he fights for the forces of Yuan Shao against Wei. Zhang Fei and Zhao Yun are both playable Shu characters from the beginning of playing, while Wei Yan must be unlocked by the completion of Huang Zhong's Musou Mode.

The mystic Zuo Ci meets Xu Zhu twice in his Musou Mode: once at the Battle of Mt. Ding Jun, where he questions Xu Zhu as to why he serves Cao Cao, and then again at the Battle of He Fei Castle, where Xu Zhu accuses Zuo Ci of causing the death of Cao Cao, and engages him in battle.

Guan Ping is the adopted son of Guan Yu, Zhang Fei's sworn brother. Sun Shang Xiang is the daughter of Wu ruler Sun Jian, and sister to other Wu rulers Sun Ce and Sun Quan. Diao Chan is the lover of Lu Bu, and his ultimate doom.

In order to get the weapon, the player must defeat a minimum of nine officers or generals, and scare the enemy forces. The character must also be playing on at least Hard difficulty, as with all Fourth Weapons.

Answer: Xiahou Dun and Xiahou Yuan

Xiahou Dun and Xiahou Yuan are a fierce pair of officers for Wei. Cao Pi is the ruthless son of Wei ruler Cao Cao. Sun Ce is the son of noble Wu ruler Sun Jian. Zhang Fei, although he names Guan Yu as his brother, and vice-versa, they are not actually related; they in fact swear to fight as brothers to bring peace to the troubled land. This oath is also taken by Shu ruler Liu Bei.

Pang Tong, in proper game canon, is killed at the Battle of Cheng Du, but before this, was seen as Shu's best strategist, and was nicknamed the "Fledgling Phoenix". Zhuge Liang, the replacement for Pang Tong as Shu's lead strategist, was nicknamed the "Rising Phoenix". Zhou Yu, Wu's initial lead strategist, is known just as "The Handsome Zhou Yu". Sima Yi is Wei's conniving, manipulative strategist.

Answer: Zhu Rong and Meng Huo

Zhang Jiao and Dong Zhuo are both leaders of factions other than the Three Kingdoms. Zhang Jiao is the head of radical religious movement the Yellow Turbans, and Dong Zhuo is a tyrannical politician who attempts to overthrow the Han. King Mulu and King Duosi are both Nanman officers, but are not playable. Cao Cao and Sun Jian are both leaders of two of the Three Kingdoms: Wei and Wu, respectively.

Answer: Xiao Qiao

Xiao Qiao was one of the two Qiao sisters. While Xiao Qiao was married to Zhou Yu, her sister Da Qiao was married to Zhou Yu's best friend, Sun Ce. Sun Shang Xiang is the sister of Sun Ce and Sun Quan, and falls in love with Shu ruler Liu Bei. Yue Ying is an inventor of Shu, who is married to Zhuge Liang.
