Lunar Bay and Dark Sea are two of the nicest-looking levels in the game, but are also among the hardest. If the clawed aliens on these levels catch you, you're taken to a fiendishly-hard mini-level where you actually become one of the aliens!

There is a Vortex on Two Tides, in the bay where the level starts. It's just hard to find. Vortex are easy to kill, but if you touch them, they'll kill you instantly.

The music on these levels is REALLY good, but the levels themselves are pretty hard, except for Vortex Queen.

The Asterite is an ancient creature that gives you the ability to stay underwater indefinitely without drowning and automatically regenerate health. In the present, the Asterite is multi-colored, whereas the Asterite in the future is a uniform metallic silver color.

Answer: 5

Ecco can use the Metasphere to become a bird, jellyfish, shark, Vortex drone, or school of fish. Metaspheres appear on the levels Fin to Feather, Eagle's Bay, Vents of Medusa, The Hungry Ones, Inter, Innuendo, Trans, Inside, and Fish City.

Inter and Innuendo are the Vortex levels for Lunar Bay and Dark Sea, respectively, and Inside is the level you go to when swallowed by the Vortex Queen. In all of these levels, Ecco turns into a Vortex drone using a metasphere and must reach the metasphere at the end to turn back into a dolphin and escape.

Thankfully, too-Maze of Stone is a fiendishly-difficult level. The other two levels that are only available on Hard are Aqua Tubeway and New Machine. Aqua Tubeway is on a par with Maze of Stone for difficulty, whereas New Machine is comparatively easy.

The music for Atlantis is the same as the music for the Vortex levels. It's another really good track.

I actually was never able to figure out the Magic Arm. I've just read about it in FAQs. Apparently it shoots bubbles, each of which gives Ecco one usage of the Hunter Song. The Hunter Song is a homing blast of sonar that can be used on 3-D levels.

15. What level shares a name with a level from the first "Ecco" game?

Answer: City of Forever

The City of Forever was sinfully-easy in the first game, but incredibly difficult in the second, thanks to the many Vortex larvae, which can instantly kill you on contact, but are also the only way to get through the gates in the level.
