Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Chromium - Oxygen - Cobalt - Sodium - Tungsten

Answer: Croconaw

In the second generation of "Pokémon" games, you can start with Chikorita (a grass type Pokémon), Cyndaquil (a fire type Pokémon) or Totodile (a water type Pokémon). Let's suppose you start with the Totodile, then you can evolve to the Croconaw at level 18 and to the Feraligatr at level 30.
In a duel the Croconaw is at an advantage against Fire types (such as Quilava), Rock types (such as Sudowoodo) and Ground types (such as Phanpy) and at a great advantage against the combined Ground/Rock types such as Pupitar.
Croconaw looks like a blue crocodile walking on the hind paws.
2. Sulfur - Phosphorus - Iodine - Sodium - Radium- Potassium

Answer: Spinarak

Spinarak looks as a small green spider. It is a rather feeble Pokémon of the combined Bug/Poison type. The Bug types have an advantage over Grass types, Psychic types and Dark types, and Poison types also have an advantage over Grass types. So Spinarak has a great edge over Chikorita. Spinarak does not go out hunting for prey, but instead spins a web and waits until other Pokémon get trapped in it.

At level 22, Spinarak evolves into Ariados, a reddish spider-like creature with purple-yellow paws.
3. Chromium - Oxygen - Boron - Astatine

Answer: Crobat

Crobat is one of the better Pokémon in the second generation. Its overall stats are comparable to the second evolution of the starter Pokémon. Crobat is styled as purple vampire bat. It is a Poison/Flying type Pokémon, which gives Crobat a great advantage over Grass type Pokémon.

The combination of Poison type and Flying type does not expose Crobat to double disadvantages when defending: whereas the Electric type, Rock type and Ice type have an edge on a Flying type, they don't have extra advantage over a Poison type.
4. Sulphur - Tungsten - Indium - Uranium - Boron

Answer: Swinub

Swinub is a combined Ice/Ground Pokémon. To me, the artwork vaguely resembles a hybrid between a mole and a hedgehog in a light brown fur with dark stripes on the back. Oddly enough, the combination of Ice type and Ground type gives contradictory results against two of the basic Pokémon types. Ice is effective against Grass and ineffective against Fire, while it's just the other way round for Ground types.
5. Phosphorus - Iodine - Carbon - Hydrogen - Uranium

Answer: Pichu

Pichu resembles a baby Pikachu, and indeed it evolves into the Pikachu from the first generation - not at a specific level, but when its Friendship status is high enough. Pichu is an Electric type Pokémon, but as a youngster it does not yet know how to control its faculties.
Overall stats for Pichu are quite low, except for Speed. Pichu is one of the Pokémon from the second generation with the lowest health points, which makes it relatively easy to catch.
6. Nitrogen - Astatine - Uranium

Answer: Natu

Natu is a Pokémon that belongs to the Flying type and to the Psychic type. As such, it has a great advantage over Fighting type Pokémon such as Tyrogue or Hitmontop. Natu is styled as a tiny green bird, probably related to the hummingbirds. Natu evolves into Xatu at level 25.
7. Potassium - Indium - Gadolinium - Radium

Answer: Kingdra

Kingdra is the interesting combination of a Water type Pokémon and a Dragon type Pokémon. In generation 2 games ("Pokémon Gold", "Pokémon Silver", "Pokémon Crystal") there are no other dragons - except for the Mega Ampharos, a Mega evolution of the Electric type Pokémon Ampharos. The artwork for a Kingdra is based upon a sea dragon, but in bright blue.
Dragon type Pokémon are one of the two types that have an advantage when attacking a similar type Pokémon. But as a Kingdra also is a Water type Pokémon (with a disadvantage when attacking a Dragon type), this effect is neutralized.
8. Sulphur - Tantalium - Nitrogen - Thallium - Erbium

Answer: Stantler

Stantler is styled as a deer with shiny antlers. It is one of the Normal type Pokémon, with no specific advantage in attacking any other Pokémon. The Normal type Pokémon is the only type completely immune to attacks by Ghost type Pokémon such as Misdreavus.
9. Sulphur - Uranium - Nitrogen - Flerovium - Oxygen - Radium

Answer: Sunflora

Sunflora, a Grass type Pokémon, is the evolution of Sunkern - one of the weakest Pokémon around. But to evolve Sunkern, you need to find and use the Sun Stone.
Sunflora is styled as a very jolly sunflower, walking on two feet and using two leaves as arms. The time of day and the weather affect Sunflora a lot: while it's thriving in broad daylight during the summer, Sunflora will keep still at night. Indeed: the games "Pokémon Gold", "Pokémon Silver" and "Pokémon Crystal" were the first equipped with a real-time clock, so the time of day could be used for some in-game effects.
10. Tungsten - Oxygen - Oxygen - Phosphorus - Erbium

Answer: Wooper

The Wooper is styled as a bluish creature with two legs, no arms and a long tail, having some spiny protrusions located at the spot where we would expect its ears. The Pokedex index states that it should resemble a fish, but that would be really pushing the envelope. According to the storyline, the Wooper lives in cold water and occasionally goes foraging on land.
Woopers are combined Water/Ground type Pokémon, which gives them a huge advantage over Fire types such as the Cyndaquil. But even the weakest Fire type Pokémon in "Pokémon Gold", "Pokémon Silver" or "Pokémon Crystal" (this is the Slugma) has significantly better statistics as the Wooper.
The Wooper can evolve into a Quagsire in level 20.
