Jack Carver is the ex-special forces soldier turned beach bum. Gordon Freeman is from "Half-Life" and The Marine is from "DOOM".

2. Who is your female companion in the game?

Answer: Val Constantine

Val Constantine is the CIA agent undercover as a reporter. The name was changed to Val Cortez in the Xbox version of the game.

3. How many weapons can you have in your possession at one time (not counting grenades)?

Answer: Four

For realism's sake, the game limits your weapons loadout to four rather than an unlimited number of guns. This limitation requires you to plan ahead. Should you keep the sniper rifle or the rocket launcher?

The hulking "Fat Boys" have an arm that has been replaced by a rocket launcher with unlimited rounds. The smaller "monkey" mutants can leap incredible distances and the invisible mutants are not the largest types. None can run faster than Jack Carver.

Both of these guns feature a grenade launcher in alt-fire mode. The OICW and AG36 are based on real US munitions although the OICW rounds in real life are able to burst in mid air while the game grenades explode on contact.

The only two vehicles with a rocket launcher are the patrol boat and Humvee. Both of these also have a mounted machine gun. The buggy has just a machine gun and the truck, forklift, inflatable boat and glider have no weapons. One must use the alt-fire key to switch the weapon from gun to rocket launcher.

You pick up a cell phone with a video screen in the first level that stays with you the entire game. With it, Doyle directs you to the next objectives in each level.

Jack is wearing a red Hawaiian shirt throughout the game and is sometimes referred to as "the guy in the red shirt". In the first level, Doyle tells Jack to cover his red shirt with an armored vest.
