1. Many KOEI games are based on historical simulations. One of the most popular is based on an ancient Chinese novel written by Luo Guanzhong. What is the name of the series and the novel?

Answer: "Romance of the Three Kingdoms"

The novel was written in the 14th century and is considered one of the four classic novels of Chinese literature. To date, there have been more than ten "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" games that directly bear the name.
2. KOEI games have touched many different parts of history with their simulations. In many of their games, you are charged with taking over an empire and leading it to glory. Which of these games did NOT take place during an actual period in history?

Answer: "Gemfire"

"Gemfire", while a great game, was a departure from the otherwise standard KOEI fare of historical simulation. It was based on a fictional island called Ishmeria complete with dragons and wizards.
3. Who says video games are not educational? This series spawned several titles, most of which saw very little love outside of Japan. It mainly had you traveling the world in the 16th century and making your fortune through trade and piracy. What was it?

Answer: "Uncharted Waters"

"Uncharted Waters" saw the original and a sequel called "Uncharted Waters: New Horizons" make it to US shores. Abroad the series has seen more success, including but not limited to, an online persistent version and other sequels.
4. This series is probably one of the most popular and recognized KOEI games to make it to the US. It is largely an action/fighting game, and not as much of a simulation or RPG, as many other KOEI games have been. It is based on the "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" saga and characters. What series is it?

Answer: "Dynasty Warriors"

"Dynasty Warriors" has spawned several sequels and off shoots, including "Dynasty Tactics." While "Kessen" is also filled with lots of action and fighting, it is based on the Japanese warrior states period, not the "Romance of the Three Kingdoms".
5. KOEI has been making games for many years now. What year was KOEI founded?

Answer: 1978

Yoichi Erikawa and Keiko Erikawa founded KOEI in 1978. Yoichi was a student at Keio University in Japan, when he decided he wanted to follow his interest in computer programming.
6. In an effort to create games more attractive to their Western audience, KOEI created a North American subsidiary. KOEI Corporation, which was located in the United States, created this historical simulation, based on the American Revolution. What was it?

Answer: "Liberty or Death"

Released for the Sega Genesis, Super NES and the PC, "Liberty or Death" put players in charge of either leading the Colonies to victory over the British, or crushing the Colonies as the British. You could choose from three different commanders from each side in the PC version, although the Genesis and Super NES versions only gave you one choice.
7. What competitor did KOEI decide to purchase/merge with in 2008, completing the deal in 2009?

Answer: Tecmo

The makers of "Tecmo Super Bowl" and Ninja Gaiden were merged into KOEI as KOEI Tecmo Holdings in 2009. This allowed KOEI to expand their library and rescued Tecmo, which was not doing that well. The combined company has stated plans to continue to release certain Tecmo games, such as the "Ninja Gaiden" series.
8. "Nobunaga's Ambition" allowed you to play as any of several dozen warlords from the warring states period in Japan. Which of the following was not a playable choice in "Nobunaga's Ambition?"

Answer: Nobuo Uematsu

Nobuo Uematsu is in fact, a famous composer, responsible for a majority of the compositions in the "Final Fantasy" video game series. He was also a founding member of a band called "The Black Mages."
9. The "Aerobiz" series allowed players to take over an airline and manage it to the dominant spot in world travel. The first game allowed second specific time periods to play in. In the second game of the series, "Aerobiz Supersonic", how long was the time period in each scenario that the player was given to achieve this goal?

Answer: 20 years

"Aerobiz Supersonic" allowed the player to pick from four different time periods, all of which were 20 year scenarios. No victory after 20 years, meant everyone lost.
10. Which of the following games did not involve KOEI at all?

Answer: "Tiger Road"

"Tiger Road" was released by Capcom and Victor Interactive in 1986. The other three relatively obscure choices were all KOEI games.
