Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Commander Shepard had to travel all across the galaxy to find the best and brightest operatives. Where did Shepard recruit Kasumi?

Answer: The Citadel

Kasumi, like the other DLC squad member Zaeed, did not have a recruitment mission. She sent an email to Shepard to meet her on the Citadel. When Shepard arrived, a hacked advertisement started talking to the Commander. Kasumi negotiated her recruitment through the advertisement.

Kasumi was willing to join Shepard, but only if Shepard helped her in a heist she was planning. The Illusive Man had forgotten to mention that part of the deal.
2. Kasumi was a master thief, and used to sneaking around. She insisted that Shepard use a password when meeting her. What was the phrase?

Answer: "Silence is golden"

Kasumi said she was the best thief, not the best known, and that there was a reason for that. With so many law enforcement agencies looking for her, Kasumi had to be sure that Shepard and her deal with Cerberus were legitimate.

"You fumble in the dark," was said by Sovereign in "Mass Effect". In "Mass Effect", on Noveria, if Shepard did not have the code to start the neutron purge, the Commander could try to guess it by saying, "Sic semper tyrannus." Thane was a drell; a species known for having perfect memories. He once said to Shepard, "Perfect memory. It is sometimes a burden."
3. Once recruited, Kasumi told Shepard that she was working with Cerberus on the condition that Shepard help her with a personal matter. The master thief wanted to pull a heist on a powerful, ruthless business man. What did Kasumi want to steal from Donovon Hock?

Answer: A grey box

A Grey Box, in the "Mass Effect" universe, was a device used to store memories. Keiji, Kasumi's partner, had a Grey Box on which he recorded highly sensitive information. Donovon Hock had Keiji killed explicitly for his Grey Box, but was having trouble decoding it.

The Grey Box was encrypted, and with memories being a rather nebulous concept, the mechanism to unlock it was far from clear. Similarly, AI "minds" (such as EDI) were housed in constructs called Blue Boxes.
4. Donovon Hock was hosting a party in honour of himself and acquaintances with similar natures. In order to sneak into the party, Shepard had to assume a false identity. Who was Shepard pretending to be?

Answer: Gunn, mercenary leader

Kasumi created the fake identity, Gunn, for Shepard. Gunn was the leader of a small but well organized and efficient mercenary group. Kasumi even wrote up a few fake articles mentioning or featuring the mercenary band. This powerful and amoral kind of person was exactly the kind of person Hock liked to associate himself with.

Talid and Kelham were both from Thane's loyalty mission. Talid was a turian politician who did not like humans, and Kelham was a corrupt human business man who hired an assassin to kill Talid. Admiral Hackett served with the Human Alliance navy, and frequently coordinated efforts with Shepard.
5. Each guest attending the party was expected to bring a gift for the host. Kasumi arranged to present a statue of which famous person in the "Mass Effect" universe?

Answer: Saren

Shepard and Kasumi's gift was a gold-plated statue of Saren, the main antagonist from "Mass Effect". The statue was actually a trick, though. Shepard and Kasumi smuggled their weapons and armour into the party, in the base of the statue. After defeating all of Hock's security systems, Shepard was finally able to get out of the fancy clothes, and put on the familiar armor.
6. Ever paranoid, Donovon Hock did have noticeable security at his party. Which mercenary outfit did he hire?

Answer: Eclipse

Eclipse was one of three main mercenary groups in "Mass Effect 2". They were known for being willing to do just about any job, no matter the legality. They also made extensive use of mechs in their ranks.

The Blue Suns were more powerful, but they were usually pirates, or setting up their own projects. The Bloodpack was a particularly violent group made up of vorcha and krogan. They were great at fighting and brawling, and completely unafraid of anything. Not exactly the best group to provide quiet security for a fancy party. The Talons first appeared in the "Mass Effect" novels, and made an appearance in the "Citadel" DLC for "Mass Effect 3".
7. While at the party, Shepard and Kasumi had to hack into Hock's personal vault. It was guarded by a DNA scanner, a voice recognizer, a barrier, and to top it all off, an old fashioned password. What was the password to enter the vault?

Answer: "Peruggia"

Shepard found the password on a datapad in the security office. Kasumi pointed out that Vincenzo Peruggia was the name of the man who famously stole the Mona Lisa. Shepard also had to get a voice sample from Hock so Kasumi could make a fake audio file of Hock saying the password.

In "Mass Effect", on Noveria, the code to start the neutron purge was "875-050-079". The first weekend multiplayer operation for "Mass Effect 3" was called "Goliath". In the "Dragon Age" series (also made by Bioware), the motto of the Grey Wardens was "The griffons will rise again."
8. While scouring Hock's personal vault, what new weapon was Shepard able to pick up?

Answer: M-12 Locust Sub-machine Gun

The Kassa M-12 Locust was an SMG known as "the gun that killed two presidents." The Locust had a lower fire rate than the other two SMGs in "Mass Effect 2", but made up for it by having very good accuracy. The Locust was especially nice for the Adept, Sentinel, and Engineer classes, because before that, they mostly relied on their pistols for medium and long range fights.

When those classes got to the Collector Ship, and were able to select new weapon training, usually assault rifles was the best option. With the Locust to fill that medium-range slot, those classes could more easily try sniper rifles for long-range damage, or shotguns for a strong close-range punch.
9. Eventually Hock discovered Shepard's ruse, and sent his security forces to stop the Commander. Luckily, Shepard had Kasumi to help fight them off. What unique ability did Kasumi bring to the battlefield?

Answer: Shadow Strike

Kasumi's DLC introduced two new abilities. One was the Flashbang Grenade that could be thrown to stun enemies. The Eclipse mercenaries guarding Hock's residence were fond of using these, which could push Shepard out of cover, and into a hail of bullets. The other ability, unique to Kasumi, was Shadow Strike. Kasumi would become invisible, similar to Tactical Cloak, and then appear behind an enemy to deliver an omni-tool enhanced punch. She would disappear once again, and return to her original position. Shadow Strike was excellent for picking off weak enemies who refused to come out of cover. If it did not outright kill an enemy, they would usually still be stunned and pushed out of cover for Shepard to attack.

Stasis was an ability unique to Liara in "Mass Effect 2". Incendiary Grenades were Zaeed's unique ability. Decoy was a new ability introduced in "Mass Effect 3".
10. When Shepard and Kasumi managed to finally fight their way to the landing pad for extraction, they found Hock already waiting for them. What was Hock piloting to stop the thieves?

Answer: Mantis Gunship

After fighting through the garage of Hock's estate, he met Shepard and Kasumi at the landing pad. In a Mantis gunship. With countless Eclipse mercenaries and mechs.

Kasumi and Shepard had to fight Hock while fending off waves of enemies, before it was safe enough for the Normandy's shuttle to approach. Kasumi managed to get up to the gunship to disable its shields, and Shepard brought it down with conventional fire power. While Kasumi had only wanted to steal the Grey Box from Hock, she was not upset about his demise.
