Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The only confidant of Joker's who isn't a human, this black cat offers Joker help in constructing useful tools for Palace Infiltration. He tends to hang around a lot, and he can even turn himself into a car to drive the team through Mementos. Who is the Magician Confidant?

Answer: Morgana

Morgana is the only non-human confidant in the game. In battle, he specializes with Wind skills and also gets a lot of really useful healing magics. Unfortunately, he is fragile and will die to most strong hits if he gets hit two or three times, so he needs some degree of support himself!
2. Enraged at the suicide attempt by her best friend, the Lovers Confidant joined the team to take down Kamoshida, to stop him from hurting anyone else. She is a bit of an airhead, and more than anyone else, she absolutely loves sweets. Who is this?

Answer: Ann Takamaki

Ann specializes with Fire skills. Her ability to tear apart anything non-Fire resistant is absurd, and she should be a staple on most teams. She is a bit fragile, though.
3. That fateful day 'walking to school' with the Chariot Confidant is when you and your new friend stumbled upon the Metaverse for the first time. This person is a ticking time bomb, becoming enraged at the first sign of things going wrong. But, he is also tremendously loyal. Who is this?

Answer: Ryuji Sakamoto

Ryuji, along with Morgana, is the first person you begin fighting alongside in Kamoshida's Palace. He specializes in Electric attacks, but he is actually a better physical attacker with a far higher Strength score than a Magic one. He is also really good at physical attacks, thanks to having Charge and God's Hand in his late-level repertoire.

His naturally high HP also makes him into a bit of a tank. He even has more HP than Joker!
4. He is a confidant you will see every day. The Heirophant Confidant runs his own cafe, gives you a place to stay while on probation, and can even teach you a thing or two about making a nice cup of coffee, or plate of curry. Who is this?

Answer: Sojiro Sakura

Sojiro "Boss" Sakura ends up being like a fatherly figure to Joker if you rank him up a good bit. The potency of the coffee and curry Joker makes increases once his rank with Sojiro hits certain benchmarks. Coffee and curry are incredibly important for sustaining trips through Palaces, so it'd be a good idea to get Sojiro's rank up high!
5. A teacher at Shujin Academy, this Temperance Confidant also works in secret as a maid! Getting on her good side will be integral for making the most use out of class time. Who is this?

Answer: Sadayo Kawakami

Ranking up Kawakami is very pricey at first, requiring 5,000 yen for every visit she makes to Cafe LeBlanc to rank up. Fortunately, the price paid for services rendered is undoubtedly a good one. Once ranked up to Rank 10, Kawakami can massage the protagonist after a trip to Mementos or a Palace, enabling Joker to go do something else productive when he would otherwise have been forced to end the day. Kawakami can also craft infiltration tools or brew coffee while Joker can go do something else.
6. A pupil of the famous artist Ichiryusai Madarame, the Emperor Confidant will join the Phantom Thieves in the middle of the second Palace. Who is this?

Answer: Yusuke Kitagawa

Yusuke is certainly an odd character. In battle, he specializes in Ice spells, but like Ryuji, his strength is much higher than magic, enabling him to put his Katana to good use. He can also be helpful out of combat, turning Blank Skill Cards into an assortment of skills Joker can attach to Personas, the likes of which get stronger as his Confidant rank rises.
7. The shopkeeper of "Untouchable", a model firearms store, this Hanged Man Confidant is formerly a member of the Yakuza. His demeanor certainly backs that up. Who is this?

Answer: Munehisa Iwai

Iwai is an important figure. Here, you can buy weapons and sell various trinkets picked up at Palaces or Mementos, outdated weapons of your own, and really, just about anything. As Iwai's rank rises, he will offer modifications on weapons which will make them stronger in battle. Of course, these modifications rise in quality alongside his rank.
8. The class president of Shujin Academy, the Priestess Confidant is a fan-favorite. Who is this?

Answer: Makoto Niijima

Makoto takes over as the team's tactician upon joining the Phantom Thieves. She specializes in Nuclear attacks, and is formidable both as a magic or physical attacker. Makoto also is incredibly tanky, with high defenses, high HP, an ability which automatically raises her defense by +1 for three turns at the start of battle, and a nice arsenal of healing moves.
9. The older sister of the Priestess Confidant, the Judgment Confidant ranks up passively throughout the game, and one of the Palaces you end up infiltrating throughout the game is actually her own. Who is this?

Answer: Sae Niijima

Sae Niijima is the only Confidant that doesn't actually convey any benefit for ranking up, apart from stronger Persona fusions with Judgment Personas like everyone else. Her Palace, the Casino, is the only one in which you don't actually end up stealing her heart, though ironically, she does end up having a "change of heart" later in the game anyway.
10. The Devil Confidant is initially sought out for information on Junya Kaneshiro, and is later frequently found enjoying a drink at the Crossroads. Who is this?

Answer: Ichiko Ohya

Unfortunately, Ohya's only benefit to ranking up is lessening the security rise whenever the player is discovered by a shadow while venturing a Palace. Because avoiding shadows is so easy, this benefit is not really appreciated.
11. Perhaps it's fitting that this Confidant is the "Sun" variant, as this politician is only available on Sundays. Fortunately, he not only guarantees a rank up on Sunday, but he offers some useful skills for ranking him up! Even if you might think them to be 'no good', I promise you they're helpful! Who am I talking about?

Answer: Toranosuke Yoshida

Toranosuke "No-Good Tora" Yoshida can be unlocked as a social link after working two shifts at the Beef Bowl shop, then approaching him on a Sunday to begin the chain. Unfortunately, the opportunity to rank him up does come with an expiration date, as he will permanently be unavailable after completing Niijima's Palace. Still, if you were to spend every Sunday night available ranking him up, you would have him maxed far, far before that anyway, so he is pretty easy to max out.

He offers helpful skills when engaging in a negotiation with shadows, making it easier to recruit and/or extort them.
12. The supposed 'ace detective' ranks up passively along the game. He is the only character in the game who not only (briefly) joins the Phantom Thieves, but later appears as a boss, hellbent on killing the team off. Who is this Justice Confidant?

Answer: Goro Akechi

Akechi goes on to be a very controversial figure in the story, from his introduction right up until his dramatic death in Shido's Palace. He ends up getting double-crossed when he himself thought he was setting up to betray the team in Niijima's Palace, failing to kill Joker and being deceived into thinking he had actually done so, as he killed a cognitive version of Joker rather than the actual real-world Joker. Ranking up Akechi only grants brief tangible benefits while he is a member of the team, which are the exact same in-combat benefits as ranking up other members of the Phantom Thieves. Before and after joining and leaving the team, ranking him up conveys nothing other than making fusing Justice Personas more profitable.
13. The hacker/navigator of the team, the Hermit Confidant is the only member of the Phantom Thieves who does not directly participate in any fighting. As a member of the Sakura family, it would make sense to keep her out of harm's way. Who is this?

Answer: Futaba Sakura

Futaba becomes available once her Palace is successfully completed, and she undergoes the change of heart. Ranking her up grants useful benefits, such as the ability to occasionally grant random stat buffs to the team in the middle of battle, the ability to manually switch out two partymates which have been downed, alleviating Joker of the need to spend his turn doing so, or scanning an entire floor of Mementos and revealing all of its contents upon arriving.
14. The daughter of Kunikazu Okumura, the owner of the Big-Bang Burger fast food chain, she is a pretty late addition to the team, but for how small her sample size is, she does offer quite a bit on and off the field. Who is this Empress Confidant?

Answer: Haru Okumura

Haru is a very helpful character, in and out of combat. She specializes in Psychokinetic magic, but also has some great Gun skills and the magic and strength scores to back them up. Notably, she also has access to Heat Riser, a wonderful stat booster that can be used to amplify her offenses, or those of her teammates. Off the field, Haru can harvest useful vegetables to give the team an upper hand in maintaining their SP for lengthy treks through a Palace or Mementos.
15. The proprietor of the Phantom-Aficionado Website and a diehard fan of the team, the Moon Confidant is a bit too much of a fan boy, and can definitely be a bit pestering, but ranking him up can be a major boon to strengthening up your teammates for battle. Who is this?

Answer: Yuuki Mishima

Referred to simply as "Mishima", he is responsible for running and maintaining the Phantom Aficionado Website. Ranking him up will progressively increase the experience points allies, and eventually even those that did not partake in battle, gain.
16. Often found practicing her Shogi in a church, the Star Confidant is the only non-Phantom Thief to go on the flight to Hawaii mid-game. You might remember her name if you could recall Yusuke casually bringing her up in the middle of a team meeting. Who is this?

Answer: Hifumi Togo

Hifumi is a rising star in the Shogi industry, and she ends up using you as a training partner to try and best ascend towards greatness. In exchange for your time, ranking Hifumi up will grant you certain in-battle tactical maneuvers, most notably the ability to instantly flee from a battle penalty-free, as well as use someone other than Joker's turn to switch a teammate out of battle.
17. By far the youngest Confidant, but also undoubtedly the one with the best hand-eye coordination, and a particular talent at first person shooting arcade games. Filling out the Persona Compendium and completing all Mementos quests can only be done by befriending the Tower Confidant. Who is this?

Answer: Shinya Oda

The little boy Shinya somehow knows a deadly thing or two about guns. Notably, he teaches Joker how to use Down Shot, a skill which is borderline mandatory to down a couple Treasure Demons, which would immensely help in finishing the Persona Compendium. Down Shot is also mandatory to complete the "Cheaters never win" Mementos quest, and is 100% impossible to beat without.
18. Nicknamed "The Plague", the Death Confidant is anything but- she is integral to keeping your allies healthy. She perfects her medicinal craft as a back-alley doctor by using you as her "guinea pig" for testing various drugs and concoctions on. Who is this?

Answer: Tae Takemi

Tae Takemi sells some incredibly important medicines, as well as the utterly crucial SP Adhesive accessories. These keep your allies healthy and energized in times when you would simply have otherwise needed to withdraw to lick your wounds. Ranking her up opens up more options for wares, and eventually causes them to become slightly cheaper as her rank increases.
19. Both the Strength and Fool Confidants are found in the Velvet Room. The former could theoretically be maxed out in a single day, while the latter is quite the opposite- only possible to be maxed out on the last day of the game. Who are the Strength and Fool Confidants, respectively?

Answer: Justine & Caroline and Igor

Justine and Caroline, the Strength Confidant, can only be ranked up if you provide them with the Persona they ask you to fetch. The Personas they want are generally tedious to acquire, but because they don't end up needing rank points or anything to rank up, if in a New Game +, these Personas could be saved to the Compendium once acquired, and could then be all presented to the duo at the same time. This would max their Confidant rank out.

Igor, the Fool Confidant, ranks up passively throughout the story. Ranking him up will increase the amount of Personas you can carry, as well as boost the experience gained when fusing Personas.
20. Perhaps you could enlist her services to tell how you're going to score on this quiz, as the appropriately named Fortune Confidant is a late-night Fortune Teller. Her methods, however, start off a bit suspicious and debatably unethical. Who is this?

Answer: Chihaya Hifune

Chihaya serves the useful purpose of being able to help strengthen bonds with your Confidants without using up time to do so, in exchange for 5,000 yen. She can also help stimulate your yen gain for defeating enemies, and can increase the probability of encountering a Treasure Demon.

She does cost a hefty 100,000 yen to rank up from rank 2, but you do end up getting your money back, so think of it more as an interest-free loan.
