"SimAnimals": The Basics Trivia Quiz

I've spent most of the past few weeks playing "SimAnimals" (Wii) with my 5-year-old so I thought I'd treat you to a quiz on the basics of the game. I've been viewing it through his eyes so you should find these questions easier rather than harder.

1. In which area do you start the game?

Answer: Snobby Manor

Snobby Manor is a small grassy area with a house adjacent to it and a lake forming one of its perimeters. Here you begin your tuition in the game and meet your first animals.

2. Which is the first animal that you meet?

Answer: Squirrel

As part of your tuition, you are introduced to a squirrel and encouraged through the process of getting it to trust you. Once you have done this, a robin and a second squirrel will soon appear.

3. When you first encounter Snobby Manor, which is the only tree growing there?

Answer: Oak

Two oak trees form part of the original Snobby Manor flora. You can of course come back to Snobby Manor and plant other trees as the game progresses. Other plants growing here at the start of the game include blackberries, lettuces, carrots and sweet william.

4. Which of these animals can be unlocked using a cheat code?

Answer: Panda

Other unlockable animals using cheat codes are a red panda and a ferret. Bear in mind though that some of your smaller animals may not be as thrilled as you at the prospect of a ferret. Llama? You wish!

5. Which trees are you asked to plant in Dry Gulch once it has been unlocked to you?

Answer: Maple

The first task that you're given in Dry Gulch is to plant five maple trees. As you grow a maple tree, grass begins to appear on the ground around the tree.

Answer: Blackberries

One of the tough parts of the game is keeping the bears from eating your other animals. There are only so many bears you can stuff into your backpack but at least blackberry bushes are easy to grow.

7. In which land are you first asked to persuade a beaver to build a dam?

Answer: Castle Hill

You need to knock down a tree and turn it into sticks. Then take your beaver to the narrowest part of the river and persuade it to get down to work.

8. What happens when an animal dies?

Answer: A tombstone appears on the screen

This is usually as a result of one of the larger animals 'fighting' with a smaller one when they're hungry. The loss is somewhat mitigated by another animal of the same species with the same name often reappearing later in the game.

9. How many hearts do you need for an animal to trust you completely?

Answer: Three

Feed it some food it likes and you get one heart. Feed it some more and you'll get a second. This will enable you to pet it and get a third heart. Once an animal has complete trust in you, you can put it in your backpack and help it breed.

10. How many animals are you allowed to carry in your backpack at any one time?

Answer: Five

Animals can move freely between the lands but to transport them yourself you will need to stash them in your backpack. This can be very necessary to protect some of your favourite animals from predators. There is no limit on the non-animal cargo that you can carry except that you cannot stow plants or trees.
