Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Starting out with the Gold Leaf Galaxy, Mario will have to face a blast from the past if he wants to reach new "heights". In what Mario game did this foe from the past first appear?

Answer: Super Mario Sunshine

The foes I'm talking about are called Cataquacks. In this game, they first appeared in the secret star of the Beach Bowl Galaxy in the Kitchen. They first appeared in the game "Super Mario Sunshine" for the Gamecube. They later appeared on Peach Beach in "Mario Kart: Double Dash" and again in "Mario Kart Wii" also on Peach Beach. Cataquacks come in blue, red, and green varieties and look like giant ducks with two legs.

They will also launch you upwards if they come in contact with you and that refers to the word heights in quotations.
2. In order to get the secret star in the Gold Leaf Galaxy, you have to be Bee Mario.

Answer: False

To get the star entitled "The Bell on the Big Tree" you obviously have to ring the bell on the biggest tree. Then you must proceed to collect all the musical notes that appear before the time limit runs out and they disappear. However, these notes are very high and in order to get them, rather than using Bee power, you use Bubble Power.

Much like the Bubble Breeze Galaxy found in the Kitchen, you will blow the bubble around with your Wiimote.
3. In the Sea Slide Galaxy, you may get a bit of deja vu because a certain mission has somewhat already happened in the game. Mario has to be shot out of a cannon and has the option to become Bee Mario to be shot to a planetoid that resembles the main planet in what other galaxy?

Answer: Hurry-Scurry Galaxy

The secret star "Hurry, He's Hungry" very closely resembles the star "Shrinking Satellite" in the Hurry-Scurry Galaxy found in the Fountain. You will be walking on a three dimensional planetoid made of green platforms that disappear as soon as you step on them. You have to collect all the musical notes on the planet and if you fall off the planet at any time you are sucked into a black hole. That is why it is handy to be Bee Mario because some of the jumps can be a bit tricky because of the angle of the camera.

As Bee Mario you have a pretty good time frame to land safely. As soon as all the notes are collected the black hole disappears and a Power Star appears in it's place. Just jump through an empty space or land on a platform and stay there until the platform disappears and the secret star is yours.

The Sea Slide Galaxy closely resembles the Beach Bowl Galaxy. The only difference is that there is not as much terrain and it's in the shape of an aquatic ring with an island in the middle.

However you can't jump from the water to the island, there must be some way to get there.
4. The Sea Slide's Purple Coin challenge requires you to be Bee Mario a lot. How many clouds, rounded to the nearest multiple of five, can you land on, as Bee Mario, when undertaking this Purple Coin Challenge?

Answer: 50

The actual number of clouds that you can land on is 51. The Sea Slide's Purple Coin Challenge is an exploration Purple Coin Challenge. In other words you must search high and low at every possible location to find all 100 Purple Coins and there is no time limit.

There are a lot of purple coins when traveling on the clouds. It is also this way when you undertake the star "The Silver Stars of Sea Slide". Silver Stars appear in the galaxy and you must find all of them before they join together to make one Power Star.

Other exploration Purple Coin Challenges include the Honeyhive Galaxy, the Dusty Dune Galaxy, and the Freezeflame Galaxy to name a few. This is the only exploration Purple Coin Challenge in the Engine Room hub.
5. In the Toy Time Galaxy the hardest star, according to "Nintendo Power", is found. What is the name of the star?

Answer: Luigi's Purple Coins

I have mentioned the star "Luigi's Purple Coins" many times in my previous quizzes and "Nintendo Power" was right because this is quite possibly the most difficult of the Purple Coin challenges. When you undertake the star "Mario Meets Mario" you get a sneak peek at what the challenge is like.

In the star "Mario Meets Mario" you have to jump on rotating yellow platforms, along with avoid being burnt by lava while collecting silver stars. Now if that wasn't difficult enough Luigi's picture is on the other side. You have three minutes to collect 100 of the 150 purple coins.

The rotating yellow platforms are still there but to make things more difficult, there are also green platforms that disappear shortly after you step on them and green dark matter that will cost you a life. Before taking on this challenge, plot out a course because if you don't plan carefully, there won't be enough solid ground to get the Power Star when you get the 100 coins, because it appears where you started.
6. In the episode "Bouncing Down Cake Lane," the boss is a mole manning a cannon who gets angrier every time you hit him. In what galaxy does a mole, who fights along the same lines, NOT appear?

Answer: Gusty Garden Galaxy

For those of you who guessed all of these, may I remind you that the mole I was describing fights with a cannon. Major Burrows use himself as an enemy so the Gusty Garden Galaxy is the correct answer. In order to whack this mole in the Toy Time Galaxy, you have to be Spring Mario because the actual mole is too high to reach with just a normal jump.

He appears again in the Gold Leaf Galaxy at the very top and you must hit a switch to raise some steps to jump up to his level. In the Deep Dark Galaxy you can jump on top of him giving him a Ground Pound. An easier strategy is to knock the coconuts into him as it will have the same effect.

As the mole gets angrier he also shoots his cannon faster and the volleys come in greater numbers.
7. The majority of the Bonefin Galaxy is an aquatic sphere in which you fight Bonefin.

Answer: False

The galaxy may be named the Bonefin Galaxy but the enemy that you fight is Kingfin as stated by the only star you can get in this galaxy, "Kingfin's Fearsome Waters." However, Bonefin would seem to suit it better since it is a large skeleton of a fish.

However, like the giant eels he seems to swim in a predictable patter and doesn't necessarily try to directly hurt you. After a while he'll start being escorted by robotic fish who will chase after you just like a Bullet Bill. Unlike the majority of the bosses, you have to hit him five times before he'll be defeated.

The only way you can hurt him is by throwing the numerous Koopa shells in the sphere at him. The easiest way is to throw red shells at him since they will home in on him. The only problem is that sometimes it will target after his robotic allies. Kingfin is also the only big boss to be fought underwater. Guppy is not really a boss since he helps you later on in the Sea Slide Galaxy and the giant eels in the Drip Drop Galaxy appear as a common enemy in other galaxies.
8. In Bowser Jr's Lava Reactor, what boss reappears?

Answer: King Kaliente

All of these bosses, or at least some form of them, is fought more than once in the game. The three, besides King Kaliente, each reside in one of the Garden galaxies. King Kaliente was first fought in the Good Egg Galaxy. He has the same attacks as last time but that doesn't mean that the fight is going to be easy. All you have to do is knock back the coconuts that he shoots at you while dodging his fireballs.

The factor that makes this battle more difficult is the terrain that you're fighting on. You are fighting on hexagonal grates that sink into the lava if you remain on them for too long, so you have to constantly keep moving to avoid being hurt by the lava. Also King Kaliente will send blue flame enemies to attack you. King Kaliente, like before, will be defeated after three hits getting you your fifth grand star, or your last one if you have defeated Bowser for the final time.
9. The title of the Sand Spiral Galaxy is "Choosing a Favorite Snack." As you know there are only a few snackable items in the game. How many possible forms of Mario can you assume in this galaxy? (Do not count Regular Mario as a form.)

Answer: Three

It should've been obvious that the second sentence in the question was a trick to throw you away from the real answer. Three snackable items can change Mario into a different form and those are a Boo Mushroom, a Bee Mushroom, and a Spring Mushroom. However, since there is no Spring Mushroom, that only leaves two so the answer must be two right? Well it's true that Mario can assume Boo Form and/or Bee Form, but he also appears in Rainbow Form near the end by grabbing a Rainbow Star.

The Sand Spiral Galaxy is fairly short. You must make your way across a dangerous quicksand pit to get to the Rainbow Star and the only choices are to become Boo Mario or Bee Mario.

However, no matter which choice you pick, you will have to deal with hazards. Bee Mario has the disadvantage of only have a limited flying time before he has to land on a pole. Boo Mario may be able to float limitlessly but he has to deal with swinging lights and lovestruck Boos.
10. Ok, we're going to end on a tougher one. What is the name of the small robot that circles around in the Engine Room hub?

Answer: Gearmo

Gearmos, are little robots with a gear in their head. They are first found in the Battlerock Galaxy when you undertake the star titled "Battlerock's Garbage Dump". They will appear in other galaxies such as the Dreadnought Galaxy, Toy Time Galaxy, and the Buoy Base Galaxy.

They will also award you the star once you complete the Purple Coin challenges on the Battlerock and the Dreadnought Galaxies. They will also give you the secret stars by blowing up garbage with Bob-ombs in both the Dreadnought and Battlerock galaxies.
