Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many beam weapons are in "Metroid" (NES)?

Answer: Three

In the original "Metroid", there was the long beam, the wave beam, and the ice beam. The wave beam shoots through walls, the ice beam can freeze enemies and metroids, while the long beam allowed players to shoot from one side of the screen to the other
2. Which of these upgrades was NOT in the original "Metroid" (NES)?

Answer: Charge Beam

The Charge Beam was implemented in "Metroid II". The Screw Attack, High Jump Boots and Varia Suit are a deadly combination that provides better protection, great dodging skills, and deadly jumps.
3. Which of these beams was NOT used in "Metroid Prime"?

Answer: Hyper Beam

The Hyper Beam is a beam from "Super Metroid", and "Metroid Prime 3", although they do not appear to be related. The Plasma and Wave beams are standard beams in the game, while the Phazon beam was used only at the end of the game.
4. While including Super Missiles, the developers thought that every beam in "Metroid Prime" should have a special attack, just like in "Super Metroid".

Answer: True

In "Metroid Prime" the beams had the Wavebuster, the Flamethrower, and the Ice Spreader. In "Super Metroid" every individual beam could be charged with Power Bombs to create some special sort of attack, all of which revolved around Samus in some way.
5. What upgrade is not in "Metroid Prime"?

Answer: X-ray Scope

The X-ray Scope is from "Super Metroid" and is replaced by the X-ray Visor in "Metroid Prime". "Metroid Prime" is the only prime game to feature the Power Suit, the rest of the games in the prime series have the Varia Suit. The Phazon Beam is activated right before the fight with Metroid Prime's second form, and after being overloaded with phazon, the Metroid Prime transforms into it's third form which attacks Samus and...
6. "Metroid Prime 2" mostly had beam weapons that strongly resembled the beam weapons from "Metroid Prime".

Answer: True

In "Metroid Prime 2" the weapons were light and dark based, not much relevance of Prime 1 right? WRONG! The Dark Beam had about the same fire rate as the Ice Beam, the same goes for the Light and Plasma Beams, not to mention that the Dark Beam can freeze enemies, and the Light Beam can burn enemies.

The Power Beam is in both games so that doesn't count, the only exceptions for the beam weapons are the Annihilator Beam, and the Beam Combos.
7. Which suit was given to Samus by the 'luminous moths'?

Answer: Light Suit

Only two of these mentioned suits exist, and those two are . . . THE LIGHT SUIT AND FUSION SUIT! The Flying Suit and Glow Suit do not exist. The Fusion Suit was used in "Metroid Fusion" where Samus had to have large portions of her suit surgically removed due to an accident.

The Light Suit is given to Samus by the luminous moths- The Luminoths, or U-Mos if you wanna be specific, this suit allowed Samus to travel safely in Dark Aether's atmosphere and also protects her from the ingstorm, small little dots that were ticked off if someone came near them, they would show this by ramming into them and breaking down almost any metal.
8. What isn't one of the new upgrades that were introduced in "Metroid Prime 3"?

Answer: Ice Missile

Everything here is new, except for the Ice Missile, which appeared in "Metroid Fusion". The Nova Beam is able to shoot through concentrated phazon such as walls, and armor. The Ship Missile was introduced in this game and gave players a chance to have some...air command, although the ship autopilots itself, making another game where you cannot pilot your own ship.

The P.E.D. Suit allows Samus to enter Hypermode, a state where she consumes her own health, in exchange for maximum phazon firepower, such as the Phazon Beam (called Hyper Beam), Phazon Ball (called Hyper Ball), the Phazon Missile (called the Hyper Missile) and the Phazon Grappling (which is called the Hyper Grapple) which allows her to absorb and inject phazon into other creatures.
9. Which weapon is used to kill Gorea's final form in "Metroid Prime Hunters"?

Answer: Omega Cannon

After Gorea absorbs the 6 hunters it goes into his second form, then after you defeat the second form and decode the super secret Alimbic Code, you fight its final form in a secret stage in the Obliette. Every hunter has a different weapon; to put it simply, there is 1 heat based weapon, 2 electrical based weapons, 1 cold based weapon, and 2 energy based weapons, all these come in the form of grenade launchers, beam weapons, a sniper rifle, and a health draining beam. Of course none of these work as the hunters are absorbed by Gorea, the only weapon capable of destroying Gorea is the Omega Cannon which can only be used once, then Samus needs to wait for the Omega Cannon to respawn.
10. Which of these is not in the original "Metroid" but is in the remake "Metroid: Zero Mission"?

Answer: Power Grip

That's right! The original "Metroid" had the Screw Attack as one of the upgrades, as well as Suitless Samus if you entered the code JUSTIN BAILEY ------ ------. The original "Metroid" also featured multiple special endings, if you beat the game in under 3 hours you saw that Samus is actually a girl because she would take off her suit, the players who did not beat the game in this time frame did not find out that Samus was a girl, she stayed in her suit.

The Power Grip allowed players to grab onto ledges and such, this upgrade is in multiple games, but this game is the only one to have it as an obtainable upgrade.

The other games that feature this are: "Metroid Prime 3" (this had grab ledges) and "Metroid Fusion"
11. Which upgrade from the original "Metroid" makes a major change in design in "Metroid II"?

Answer: Varia Suit

The biggest change here is a change that became the standard for any "Metroid" game featuring said upgrade, and that upgrade is... THE VARIA SUIT! The major difference in the suit was the new shoulder...things. These spiked shoulders became the one thing that differentiated it from other suits.

The Power Suit gets a small change due to the number of pixels allowed in the Game Boy technology. The Morph Ball gets a new upgrade-- the extremely useful Spiderball, which allows Samus to stick to walls in Morph Ball mode.

The Screw Attack makes a return in this sequel to "Metroid", and it lives up to its name; anything that gets in Samus' way while she's using this is basically screwed.
12. Which of these upgrades can be used to kill the Queen Metroid in "Metroid II"?

Answer: Bombs and Missiles

That's right! Not only can Samus melt the Queen Metroid's face off with Missiles, but she can also go inside the Queen Metroid's stomach and blow it up from the inside with Morph Ball Bombs. The Queen Metroid gets faster the more damage it takes, using the Bomb strategy takes about three bombings to kill the Queen, as for the Missile strategy it takes around 150 is my guess, I'm not entirely sure but by the end you are around only 50 Missiles while you started out with 200.
13. What upgrade from "Metroid II" is featured in the "Metroid Prime" games and limits its use to certain areas?

Answer: Spider Ball

In "Metroid II" the Spider Ball allows Samus to travel along any wall the Morph Ball touches, unlike in the Prime series where Samus has to stick to special magnetic rails. The Plasma Beam was introduced in "Metroid II" and always allows the beam to pass through enemies.

The Spring Ball is in multiple games including the "Prime" series (Wii versions). The Ice Beam obviously freezes stuff, and that's what it will always do.
14. Which of these upgrades was not introduced in "Super Metroid"?

Answer: Plasma Beam

I just wanna mention it took me a little while to look at this question due to "Metroid II" having EVERY SINGLE UPGRADE FROM "Super Metroid". Anyway, yes, the Plasma Beam was introduced in "Metroid II" and it shocks me too, next we have the Reserve Tanks, which are only in one game-"Super Metroid".

The Hyper Beam is from "Super Metroid" given to you be the baby metroid, although it appears in "Metroid Prime 3" as a phazon based beam. The Gravity Suit was introduced in "Super Metroid" and was gained after you defeated Phantoon and thoroughly searched the Wrecked Ship.
15. How many new upgrades that have never been in another Metroid game are introduced in "Metroid Other M"?

Answer: 4

These are the completely new upgrades:
Energy Part: Collect 4 and you gain 100 energy, or, 1 energy tank.
Accel Charge: The more you have, the less time it takes to charge up your Charge Beam.
E-Recovery Tank: Allows you to gain more energy when you use Concentration.
Diffusion Beam: Scatters your Charge Beam into about 6 more parts.
Yup, there is no new weapons except for the Diffusion Beam, which is the only new weapon in the entire game, the other new things are the E-Recovery Tank, Energy Part, and Accel Charge.
16. Which weapons of Samus are used by the SA-X

Answer: Ice Beam, Screw Attack, and Super Missiles

The SA-X uses the Ice Beam, Screw Attack, Super Missiles, Power Bombs, and the Varia Suit, this is shown in various scenes of the game where Samus needs to escape from or avoid the SA-X. The Diffusion Missiles are gained from a download, the Plasma Beam is gained by Nettori, the Space Jump is gained by Yakuza, and the Screw Attack is gained by the infamous purple dragon- RIDLEY!
17. The SA-X is an exact copy of Samus.

Answer: False

The SA-X doesn't always keep it's Samus form, just before it dies it turns into it's monster form, in which it can only be damaged by charged Plasma Beam shots. After it dies, it turns into it's core X form, and after you defeat the shell, the X escapes and returns shortly after the true final boss reveals itself.
18. Which main suit is used in "Metroid Fusion"

Answer: Fusion Suit

The Fusion Suit is a result of large portions of Samus' suit being corrupted from the X parasite, and scientists surgically removed those large portions of her suit, giving her the Fusion Suit. The plot of the game reflects the name, so basically, Samus learns of the dangerous X parasite living on planet SR388, so she goes to investigate SR388, turns out there was already infected creatures there, Samus kills one, then the X comes out, and infects her, thus she fuses her DNA with Metroid DNA so she can absorb the X parasites and rid the universe of this evil
19. Samus can obtain every upgrade in "Metroid Fusion" in just her fusion suit

Answer: False

Samus needs the Varia Suit in order to do anything with cold based weaponry or to survive in a cold climate. When Samus does get the Varia Suit however, she can absorb special "Cold X" and live in cold environments, however she still cannot use the Ice Beam due to her cellular structure being fused with metroid DNA.

The final core X in the game gives Samus her suit parts back, letting her gain the Ice Beam
20. The Shinespark, Bomb Jump and Wall Jump are programmed in at least ONE of the following: "Metroid Prime", "Metroid", "Metroid II".

Answer: False

The Shinespark is used in most games containing the Speed Booster; this allows you to jump straight up or to the sides. This trick is very useful for quickly passing rooms. The Bomb Jump can be used in every game containing Bombs, although it is very hard in the original "Metroid" it gets easier in most other games aside from "Metroid: Other M".

The Wall Jump can be used to quickly climb very high rooms with walls fairly close together. The games that feature all these techniques are: "Super Metroid", "Metroid Fusion", "Metroid: Other M" and "Metroid: Zero Mission"
