Who will the player help her defeat in the second instance? Hint

What boss fight can Orbeck potentially be available for? Hint

Question 9 of 10

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Returning from "Dark Souls 1", this blacksmith takes up residence in the Firelink Shrine here and is the player's one and only blacksmith for the entire game. Who is he?

Answer: Andre of Astora

Unlike in "Dark Souls 1", Andre here is fully capable of doing anything related to weapons, with the exception of creating weapons from Boss souls. This includes infusions, upgrades on specials weapons including those forged from Boss souls and upgrading the player's Estus supply.
2. Very early on, the player will begin to accumulate Boss souls. Naturally, they'll want to turn these special items into special equipment for themselves. Who can they go to for help with that?

Answer: Ludleth of Courland

After obtaining the Transposing Kiln following the defeat of the Curse-Rotted Greatwood, the player can deliver the kiln to Ludleth. From here on out, they'll be able to trade Boss souls to him in exchange for gear.
3. Upon reaching Lothric castle, the player will meet Emma, the castle's High Priestess. Interestingly, the very room the player meets her in will eventually be the room used to fight Dancer of the Boreal Valley. The Dancer is scaled for a late game player, but there is a way that a brand new character can prematurely gain access to this boss fight. What must they do to trigger a fight with the Dancer?

Answer: Kill Emma

The way the developers seemingly intended for the player to progress was to speak to Emma, collect the Lothric banner, head down the street from the castle to fight Vordt of the Boreal Valley, and then simply proceed onward. In doing so, the player would have the opportunity to fight in eleven different boss fights, eight mandatory, which includes three of the four Lords of Cinder. The fourth Lord of Cinder, Lothric the Younger Prince, is in an area where the player will be required to defeat Dancer of the Boreal Valley to access.

Typically, once the third Lord of Cinder is killed, the player would be teleported to Lothric Castle again, where they'd find Emma had simply passed away. They can skip all of this by killing her when initially met. Be warned though, this will trigger the boss fight for Dancer of the Boreal Valley, a boss scaled for a level well beyond what the player will be at for this point.
4. In a curious twist, Yoel of Londor is capable of offering five free level ups to the player. One of them will be granted automatically, but the player will need to do something very weird with their character to earn the other four. What is this?

Answer: Die

Yoel will grant these level ups as the player character 'hollows'. Hollowing is achieved via death, meaning he is essentially rewarding the player for dying four additional times. There's nothing fancy to it; the player can simply take their character outside of the Firelink Shrine, jump off a cliff side, then go see Yoel for their reward upon respawning.

It should be noted that Yoel must be spoken with after each individual death; dying four times and then speaking to him will see him only reward one of the deaths at a time.
5. Anri of Astora is involved in two questlines, with their involvement in Yuria of Londor's proving particularly bizarre. Yuria requests that the player's character marry Anri, with the rationale that the Lord of Hollows should have a spouse. When the player arrives to meet Anri, they'll find him/her in quite the precarious state. What has happened to Anri?

Answer: Anri died

When Yuria expresses a desire for the player character to get married, she crucially left out the part that their spouse's soul would essentially get merged with that of the player character, requiring them to die. As such, it should come as little surprise that killing an assassin found in the Church of Yorshka will immediately cause the player to fail Yuria's questline.

This assassin was installed by Yuria as a means of killing Anri and facilitating this.
6. Sirris of the Sunless Realms was unique for being the first NPC in the franchise to end up summoning the player for help, rather than just the other way around. She will request the player's aid in two different fights as part of her questline. One of them is helping defend her against Creighton the Wanderer. Who will the player help her defeat in the second instance?

Answer: Holy Knight Hoderick

As it happens, Hoderick is actually Sirris' grandfather. He has gone hollow, so it seems Sirris wants to put him out of his misery. The fight takes place in the Pit of Hollows, and the player must have defeated the Curse Rotted Greatwood as well as the Deacons of the Deep and High Lord Wolnir in order to access this part of Sirris' questline.
7. Slave Knight Gael has two goals, one of which the player can help him achieve. He will chant this goal a handful of times to the player and then essentially beg for their help with it. What does Gael say he wants the player's help with?

Answer: Fire for his lady

It isn't ever stated specifically what exactly Gael means. However, when entering the Painted World of Ariandel as he asks the player to do, there is only one "lady" who is actually in the world at all- Sister Friede. During this fight, not only can Slave Knight Gael aid the player as a summon, but in the fight's second phase, Father Ariandel will use Fire as a means of reviving Friede after the player initially kills her, suggesting the fire is some type of remedy in this world.

It is unknown if defeating Friede ultimately satisfies Gael's request, but it is the last time Gael will actually mention the subject, implying that he got what he wanted from the player defeating Friede.
8. As is a constant across From Software games, a player looking to create an Intelligence based spellcasting build has a little bit of work to do in order to make it work. Orbeck of Vinheim is the sorcerer vendor here. Curiously, he has a questline which will actually cause him to become available as help for one boss fight. What boss fight can Orbeck potentially be available for?

Answer: Twin Princes

If all of Orbeck's sorceries are purchased and the player delivers four tomes to him to expand his repertoire, he will be available for summon against the Twin Princes. Doing this is easier said than done, as the four tomes are all in very random, obscure places.

As well, Orbeck's sorceries do cost quite a lot of souls to collectively purchase. The player is also on somewhat of a timer, as if they defeat more than two bosses without giving Orbeck at least one tome, he will depart Firelink Shrine and be permanently unavailable unless he was already given all four tomes.

After the Twin Princes fight, Orbeck's corpse can be found draped over a chair inside the Archives whether he survived or not or was even used in the fight at all.
9. This NPC became the first phantom in the franchise to be summonable for everything other than the boss. When found at the Dragonkin Mausoleum, he will happily aid the player until they attempt to fight the Nameless King, as he will deliberately leave the player's world if they do. What NPC does this apply to?

Answer: Hawkwood the Deserter

A true representative of his title, Hawkwood will desert the player if they try to activate the Nameless King fight. He can only be summoned for the area in the first place if the player managed to complete his questline, done by simply defeating three Lords of Cinder and exhausting his dialogue at the Firelink Shrine, then reloading the area.
10. Shira, Knight of Filianore is the strongest NPC summon in the game in terms of level scaling, being scaled for a level 120-140 encounter, just edging out Slave Knight Gael. Which fight can she be summoned to help with?

Answer: Darkeater Midir

Shira refers to herself as "Daughter of the Duke and friend of Midir." When greeted in the Ringed City. With Midir on the verge of going completely hollow and corrupted by the Abyss, she will request the player's aid in granting him an honorable death. After exhausting her dialogue, her summon sign will be found just in front of the boss fog door leading to Midir's fight.

Sadly, though her stats are incredible, she wields Lightning which Midir is weak to and wields the powerful Crucifix of the Mad King, Shira is well known for being arguably the worst summonable NPC in the entire game. The reason for this is how her AI will cause her to mostly stand far away from Midir during the fight, which has a very high chance of prompting Midir to use his stronger attacks more often, such as his laser attacks, Fire breath and multi-hit melee combos which extend a very far distance. This will make it much more difficult for the player to get into a good position to damage Midir, as they'll have little influence over how his AI plays the fight and will spend a lot of time spending stamina simply keeping up with him. Additionally, Shira's presence will buff Midir's health by 100%. Simply put, unless engaging in a weird challenge run, the player is advised to never summon Shira for help with this fight.
