Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who is the very first boss the player will face in their playthrough?

Answer: Iudex Gundyr

Iudex Gundyr will, assuming the player does not hack the game, always be the first boss fought in any playthrough. He is the boss of the Cemetery of Ash, an area acting as a tutorial area of sorts.
2. Once they arrive to the Firelink Shrine, the player will be given their goal for the playthrough. What must they eventually achieve to beat the game?

Answer: Return the Lords to their thrones

The four Lords of Cinder must be slain, and their souls delivered to their respective thrones at the shrine. Once this is done, the Kiln of the First Flame will open and the player can access the final boss of the entire game. Clearly, this task will take quite a long time to complete.
3. At the Firelink Shrine, an NPC by the name of Hawkwood the Deserter can be found. His title isn't misleading: who did Hawkwood 'desert'?

Answer: The Undead Legion of Farron

The dead giveaway is Hawkwood's weapon of choice: the Farron Greatsword, a weapon only given to those who are part of the Undead Legion. His cosmetics and fighting style similarly mimic the Abyss Watchers as well.
4. Greirat of the Undead Settlement will offer to steal items from various places for the player. However, if the player takes him up on this too much, he will get in over his head and be killed... unless he is rescued in timely fashion. What NPC can save Greirat from his demise?

Answer: Siegward of Catarina

It should be noted, Siegward can only do this if the player has advanced his questline up to the point where he moves to Irithyl of the Boreal Valley. They must be careful not to advance it past this point, or Siegward will leave Irithyl entirely. Otherwise, he will not be in position to defend Greirat, and Greirat will be killed. If Greirat makes it back alive, his shop will include new greatarrow ammunition in infinite quantities, some new weapons and a couple consumables.
5. As the only Lord of Cinder interested in aiding the player, when discussing his decision to sacrifice his soul for the greater good, what does Ludleth of Courland tell the player?

Answer: "I may be but small, but I shall die a colossus"

The incorrect options are quotes which do relate to the Lords of Cinder, but they are said by other characters and have nothing to do with Ludleth directly. Ludleth seems to believe he will go down as a legend for willingly sacrificing his soul for the Kiln of the First Flame.
6. Which of the following is a mandatory boss, which must be defeated in order to eventually finish the game?

Answer: Deacons of the Deep

When defeated, the Deacons of the Deep drop the Odd Doll, which is needed to access Irithyl of the Boreal Valley. Irithyl is home to Aldrich, Devourer of Gods and one of the Lords of Cinder who must be slain. Since the Odd Doll is needed to slay Aldrich, that makes the Deacons of the Deep a mandatory boss fight.

While the Curse-Rotted Greatwood drops incredible loot, Darkeater Midir is just a fantastic boss fight in general and the Old Demon King can provide a stiff challenge at lower levels, these bosses are not essential to defeat in order to beat the game.
7. For the first time in franchise history, NPCs can summon the player for help in this game, rather than the typical other way around. What NPC of the following can summon the player for aid?

Answer: Sirris of the Sunless Realms

Sirris can summon the player two times: once for help defeating Creighton the Wanderer, and then again for help putting down Holy Knight Hodrick, her grandfather. Once this is done, she will swear an oath of fealty to the player and will, in turn, offer herself as assistance for multiple boss fights, including challenging bouts against the Twin Princes and Dragonslayer Armor.

Sirris isn't the only one, as Anri of Astora can also summon the player for help in taking down Aldrich, Devourer of Gods.
8. An easter egg can be found in the Irithyl cathedral. Here, a painting of a prominent character from "Dark Souls 2" can be found. Who does the painting depict?

Answer: Nashandra

The very same painting found inside Drangleic Castle can be found inside Irithyl. At the point players initially discovered this, endless amounts of fun theories and ideas about its purpose began to surface. As it happened, this painting was little more than just fun fan service in the former of an easter egg.
9. "Dark Souls 1's" classic Ornstein and Smough boss fight captivated players all around the community. It's no surprise then, that "Dark Souls 3" wanted to provide an homage to this fight, bringing back their boss room but putting a different boss inside of it. Which boss fights the player inside this iconic boss room?

Answer: Aldrich, Devourer of Gods

Unlike the legendary Anor Londo pair, Aldrich is capable of destroying the crumbling pillars across the room. He can also move across the area faster than even Ornstein can, while possessing magical talents that ascend his damage output to be on par with the mighty Executioner Smough. Even though there's only one boss this time, he can provide a handful!
10. The climactic showdown with Yhorm the Giant can get even more emotionally stimulating if the player has finished one NPC's questline. If done, this will slightly change the introduction cutscene to include this one NPC with their own dialogue. What NPC can join the player for this fight?

Answer: Siegward of Catarina

If Siegward's questline has been fully completed before the first time the player enters Yhorm's boss room, the cutscene will play out as it normally would, only Siegward will step in front of the player's character and tell Yhorm he's "come to fulfill my promise."

Siegward's 'promise' was to put Yhorm down if ever Yhorm lost his way or became corrupted. That has unfortunately taken place, and Siegward has to put his old friend down. He will make use of the Storm Ruler to do so.

If the player enters Yhorm's boss room without finishing Siegward's questline, unfortunately this will prevent the player from finishing Siegward's questline at all. Siegward will vanish from where he previously was, not to be found again until proceeding to New Game Plus.
11. In Irithyl, interestingly, the player's character can potentially be married to Anri of Astora. As it happens, the Londor method of marriage is... quite unorthodox. In order to 'marry' Anri, what must the player do?

Answer: Stab Anri in the heart

If the player does not intervene and if they have progressed Yuria of Londor's questline, she will send an assassin to Irithyl. This assassin will kill Anri and bring Anri to the Darkmoon Tomb. Here, the player can 'marry' Anri by taking a strange blade given to them by this assassin and plunging it directly into Anri's heart.

Obviously, doing this will immediately end Anri's questline. If the player intervenes by killing the assassin before the assassin can kill Anri, this will allow Anri's questline to continue, but it will anger Yuria of Londor to the point where her questline will now be broken, unable to be advanced further.

If the player defeats Pontiff Sulyvahn, this will trigger the assassin to kill Anri, if the assassin has not been dealt with beforehand.
12. In order to access Archdragon Peak, the player will need the "Path of the Dragon" emote. To access this, they must defeat an otherwise entirely optional boss. Who must be defeated for this emoji?

Answer: Oceiros the Consumed King

Once Oceiros is slain, the player can advance through his boss room and find the emoji simply waiting on a corpse who is actively performing the emoji. Once done, heading to Profaned Capital right next to a wooden elevator and performing this emoji will take the player to Archdragon Peak.
13. During the boss fight against the Twin Princes, during second phase, if Lorian is downed, Lothric can revive him. How many times can Lothric revive Lorian?

Answer: Infinite

Until Lothric himself is slain, the fight will never end. Lorian will get back less and less health with each time he is slain, but he can be 'killed' infinitely and Lothric will simply keep reviving him until killed.
14. The game's final boss, Soul of Cinder, can potentially be fought with up to two NPC summons. However, these summons will only appear if the player is on pace to earn a very specific ending. Which ending?

Answer: "Lord of Hollows"

In order to achieve this ending, the player must finish the entirety of Yuria of Londor's questline. Thankfully, there is no time sensitivity on this, only that the player not straight up achieve a different ending instead. They can even defeat Soul of Cinder if they wanted, then finish Yuria's quest, and come back to get the "Lord of Hollows" ending. However, there are many different ways, some not intuitive, for the player to accidentally fail this questline, so they must be careful.

If this is achieved, Yuria herself and Londor Pale Shade will show up as NPC summons for Soul of Cinder.
15. When fighting Soul of Cinder and depleting his health bar fully, the player will find that the fight is far from over. Soul of Cinder, in a last-ditch effort to defeat the player, will channel the soul of a very old foe from "Dark Souls 1" to acquire his power to fight the player. Whose soul does Soul of Cinder call upon?

Answer: Gwyn

This was a second phase that was clearly intended to serve as one last dosage of fan service before the game ends. The soundtrack will be replaced by a slightly remixed version of the one heard when fighting Gwyn in "Dark Souls 1". As well, the Soul of Cinder's moveset will experience a dramatic change, mostly emulating the moves Gwyn used in the aforementioned game, only the moves themselves are stronger, faster and, most importantly, cannot be parried.
