Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In both the Painted World of Ariandel and Catacombs of Carthus, a huge bridge can be cut down, and climbed down once down. Climbing down the bridge in either will eventually result in what happening to the player?

Answer: They will eventually reach a boss fight

In Ariandel, climbing down this bridge and doing a little more traveling is done to reach the Champion's Graveteneer boss fight. In the Catacombs of Carthus, doing this will reach the Stray Demon, and the the Old Demon King boss fights.
2. Jailers are arguably the most irritating enemies in the game, capable of stripping away the player's maximum HP for a brief period of time. They are thankfully only found in one area - where?

Answer: Irithyl Dungeon

Jailers thankfully do stagger easily, but they must be killed quickly before their power can go to work nipping away at the player's max HP. If left unattended, they can lower the player's HP to laughably low numbers, dragging them down from as high as two thousand all the way down to a single digit number if given the time.
3. Dragonslayer Ornstein and Executioner Smough once defended this area's cathedral- an area now harbored by Aldrich, Devourer of Gods. The area appears to be under control by the Irithyl army. Where is it?

Answer: Anor Londo

The once-beautiful city of Anor Londo is now completely overrun and desolate. Numerous Deacons and a handful of Silver Knights guard it, with the aid of a vicious Sulyvahn's Beast to boot.
4. The largest individual structure in the game is home to the Deacons of the Deep bossfight. Here, a run-in with the iconic Patches is also quite likely. Where is it?

Answer: Cathedral of the Deep

This seven-story, incredibly large and lavished building is the location of the Deacons of the Deep bossfight. Because the Deacons of the Deep are a mandatory boss fight, the player will always find themselves going here. The area is quite beautifully designed, thankfully, so the player can appreciate how much effort had to have gone into it from a designing perspective.

If the player completed the first part of Siegward of Catarina's questline, they will find the iconic Patches in his Unbreakable form here. Patches has stolen Siegward's armor and is disguising himself as Siegward, seeking to troll the player by kicking them off a large ledge to do battle with a giant. The goal of the quest is to acquire Siegward's armor back from Patches and return it to the Catarina knight. There are two ways to do this - buy the armor off of Patches, or kill him and loot the armor off his body.
5. The central hub of the game, this place is where the Fire Keeper, Andre the Blacksmith, and the Handmaiden can be found. Other NPCs will also show up here from time to time, and actions that the player take can also cause others to arrive more permanently as well. What is the name of this place?

Answer: Firelink Shrine

The only three NPCs who will always stay at the Firelink Shrine no matter what the player does are the Firekeeper, Andre the Blacksmith and the Handmaiden. Even if the player kills them, simply reloading the area will see them respawn. There is no penalty for killing the Firekeeper. Killing the Handmaiden will cause the prices of her wares to go up the more the player kills her. The most intolerant of player savagery is definitely Andre- while he will respawn, he will completely refuse to help the player out in anyway at all if they kill him - this will force them to start a New Game if they wish to do business with Andre, a crippling blow considering he is in charge of managing the player's Estus Flasks as well.

Any other NPC killed here will stay dead, with the temporary exception of Ludleth the Exiled, who is killed for good once the player acquires all of the souls of cinder.
6. This area is where the terrifying Darkeater Midir is originally confronted. This is not where the player fights him as a straight up boss, but they must drive him out of this area for him to appear in his boss room. Where is this?

Answer: The Ringed City

Midir will attempt to impede the player as they travel deep into a small cavern found within the Ringed City. Once the player reaches the Shared Grave bonfire, just a small bit of further travel will cause them to run into Midir head-on. Here, Midir has about 15% of the max HP he has when he is fought as a boss. Thus, he can be viewed as a mini-boss of sorts here, and he definitely lives up to that title.

It is all too easy for a player to be killed quite quickly, whether by Midir's vicious laser attacks, fire, or being simply knocked off a cliff to fall to their doom. Upon defeating Midir, he will fall off the ledge he is perched over, and will retreat to his boss room. Fighting him here is mandatory before the player can fight his boss fight.
7. A player looking to create a Miracle build will need to locate the vendor which sells Miracle spells. She is found locked in a cell within an area in the game. Upon freeing Irina of Karim, she will return to the Firelink Shrine to sell her Miracles. Where can the player locate her?

Answer: Undead Settlement

Worth noting is that, should the player happen to be wearing a pair of Morne's Gloves, she will be frightened by them when she asks them to touch her, and will refuse to travel with them. Simply removing the gloves and trying again will correct this, fortunately.

Upon recruiting Irina of Karim, her body guard Eygon will also temporarily join the player's cause. He can appear as a useful NPC Summon for the Crystal Sage and Dragonslayer Armor boss fights.
8. For those looking to complete Anri of Astora's questline, look out! Anri will need player help fending off an assassin whom Yuria of Londor has commissioned to take them out. The assassin's guise is clever, but can be figured out by a clever player. Where can the assassin be found?

Answer: Church of Yorshka

Residing within Irithyl of the Boreal Valley, the reason this seems so dangerous is that the Church of Yorshka is one of the buildings the player actually meets Anri at during their questline, shortly after discovering where Horace the Hushed was and relaying this information to Anri. If the player does not kill the assassin before defeating the Pontiff Sulyvahn boss fight, the assassin will complete their quest of murdering Anri, so the player must act fast. Doing this will irritate Yuria considerably to the point where she will no longer deal with the player at all, also ending Yuria's questline at that point should the player have been involved with it.

This also means that completion of Anri and Yuria's questline is not possible in the same playthrough of the game.
9. One central point of Anri of Astora's questline is to help locate where their partner, Horace the Hushed, has gotten himself lost to. Where can Horace be found during this step of the questline?

Answer: Smoldering Lake

Here, Horace is found to have hollowed and will be hostile towards the player. The player must kill him here, then report the events to Anri, who can be found within the Catacombs of Carthus. It is a necessary step to advance the questline. Failing to tell Anri where Horace is before defeating the Pontiff Sulyvahn boss fight will result in Anri finding Horace at the Smoldering Lake, only for Horace to promptly murder Anri and end the questline.

At this point, they can both be found, hollowed and hostile, should the player stumble upon the area.
10. Slave Knight Gael is an important figure who is central to the game's DLC. Interacting with him is necessary to even begin the DLC. Within the base game, where is Gael found that would allow him to welcome the player into the DLC?

Answer: Cleansing Chapel

Upon entering the Cleansing Chapel, Gael is found knelt in prayer, uttering the words "fire for my lady, fire for Ariandel" over and over again. Upon interacting with him, he will essentially beg the player to help him bring 'fire to Ariandel' even though he never actually elaborates on how to do that. If the player agrees, he will pull them into a small painting which ends up being the Painted World of Ariandel. From there, the player can progress their way through the DLC, starting with Ariandel, venturing to the Dreg Heaps, the ending off at the Ringed City and Filianore's Rest.
