Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The brave Sir Arthur will fight all sorts of monsters in order to rescue his princess, even if he must do so showing his underwear! In which video game series can we find this gallant hero?

Answer: "Ghosts 'n Goblins"

First released in the arcades in 1985, this challenging game had an armored knight that could only take two hits before losing a life which probably forced you to start the level at the very beginning. The first hit he endured would cause him to reveal his boxers.

He appears in "Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds" as a selectable fighter, and as a nod to the fans, he randomly displays his colorful underwear throughout the fights.
2. The anthropomorphic character of Klonoa first appeared in the Namco-developed Playstation game "Klonoa: Door to Phantomile". Which popular Namco mascot does Klonoa sport on the side of his blue hat?

Answer: Pac-Man

Klonoa looks like a mixture of a cat with a rabbit and his trademark move is to inflate enemies, lift them above his head (a la "Super Mario Bros. 2") and toss them at other enemies or towards the ground for increased air time in its jumps. "Klonoa: Door to Phantomile" was a success, winning several and accolades and considered an innovative platform game. An updated version of the game was released in 2008 for the Nintendo Wii and it's just called "Klonoa".
3. What's the name of the winged, staff-wielding Sister of Fate that fails to persuade Kratos of the foolishness of his quest in the Playstation 2 game "God of War II", forcing her to fight him to the death?

Answer: Lahkesis

Her name is misspelled in the game, as it is usually seen in literature as Lachesis or Lakhesis. She summons her sister Atropos to aid in the fight, but Kratos manages to imprison them in a magical mirror and shatters it, erasing them from his world.

Persephone is the Queen of the Underworld in "God of War: Chains of Olympus". Scylla is a monster that Poseidon summons in "God of War: Ghost of Sparta". Zephyrus is one of the horses that pulls the Sun Chariot of Helios in "God of War: Chains of Olympus".
4. What's the name of the International Contract Agency handler that gives Agent 47 targets and intel throughout several entries of the "Hitman" series of video games?

Answer: Diana Burnwood

It wasn't until 2012's "Hitman: Absolution" that players were able to clearly see Diana's face, as most of the time you only listened to her voice. Sadly, that's the same game where Diana becomes a target of the supremely lethal Agent 47.

"Hitman: Absolution" also marked the change of the actress voicing her, as Vivienne McKee was replaced by Marsha Thomason, better known for portraying the TV characters of Naomi Dorritt in "Lost" and Nessa Holt in "Las Vegas".

Motoko Kusanagi is from the anime "Ghost in the Shell"; Samantha Manson is from the cartoon "Danny Phantom"; and Tiffany Lords is the cheerleader in the games "Rival Schools" and "Project Justice".
5. Sagat in the "Street Fighter" series has been referred to as the "King" or "God" of what fighting style?

Answer: Muay Thai

The fighting style of Ryu (the main character of "Street Fighter") is usually said to be based on Shotokan Karate, but in reality his moves resemble more those of Kyokushin Karate, especially because he was based on a real-life practitioner of the latter style. Elena, the East African princess is the capoeira representative in the series, taking advantage of her long legs. Chun Li uses a style derived from Chinese kempo, and other characters like Karin have some moves that resemble Kempo.
6. Produced and released by Midway in North America in 1978, which Japanese company was responsible for developing the hugely successful and iconic arcade game of "Space Invaders"?

Answer: Taito Corporation

"Space Invaders" was a giant culture phenomenon responsible for inspiring many creative minds to apply their genius to the video game industry, including Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto and Konami's Hideo Kojima.

In 1980, it was ported to the Atari 2600, becoming the first official licensing of an arcade game, and invigorating the young video game console market.

Atari is American and Mastertronic was British. Namco launched its very first original video game in 1978 and it was called "Gee Bee".
7. In 1997, Midway games released "Mortal Kombat 4", the first in the franchise to be a 3D fighter. What fighting game did the same company release a year before to test the new 3D software?

Answer: "War Gods"

"War Gods" was released in the arcades first before being ported to the Nintendo 64, Playstation and Windows. It was very similar to "Mortal Kombat" but received criticisms for an uninspired stable of just ten fighters and an unattractive graphics technology called "digital skin" that mapped the likeness of the actors portraying the characters right into the game.

"Grudge Warriors" was a "Twisted Metal" copycat released for the Playstation. "Gradius" is a side-scrolling shooter by Konami.
8. Lionhead Studios is better known for the RPG/Adventure "Fable" series, but what was the very first game they released, where you could play as a benevolent or evil God depending on how you chose to interact with the tribes?

Answer: "Black & White"

"Black and White" released to much critical acclaim due to its concept, but when gamers started playing it, they realized the ambitious ideas were drastically limited by the availability of interactions and gameplay elements and it was plagued with glitches.

The creator, Peter Molyneux, has confessed in later interviews that the project grew far bigger for the developing tools they had at the time.
9. You are witnessing a fierce fighting match between Pai Chan and Sarah Bryant. What game series are you watching?

Answer: "Virtua Fighter"

Pai Chan's martial arts style is M¨ªz¨ngy¨¬, a Chinese martial art most famously practiced by Huo Yuanjia, iconic Chinese hero recently portrayed by Jet Li in the movie "Fearless".

Sarah Bryant was a practitioner of Jeet Kune Do, the martial arts developed by Bruce Lee, but has recently branched out to other styles.
10. You are playing "Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow" and find yourself facing the second boss in the game, located at the Chapel. Watch out for its poisonous sting! What monster is it?

Answer: A manticore.

With the body of a lion, wings of a bat and a tail of a scorpion, this Persian sphinx-like monster is an intimidating foe. Its rare drop is a Roman gladius sword. Did it come from an ill-fated legionary?
