Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the volcano found in many "Zelda" games that is home to the Goron people and usually contains a fire-themed dungeon, fire puzzles and fire enemies?

Answer: Death Mountain

Death Mountain can be found in "The Legend of Zelda" (NES), "The Adventure of Link" (NES), "A Link to the Past" (SNES), "Ocarina of Time" (N64), "Twilight Princess" (Wii), "A Link Between Worlds" (3DS), "Breath of the Wild" (Wii U/Switch) and others. In many games, Death Mountain is home to the Gorons, people who eat rocks and are able to stand the high temperatures of the volcano.

In many cases, Link will need a special heat-proof tunic to entire certain parts of the mountain. Exploring Death Mountain usually requires a lot of climbing and dodging of obstacles like falling rock and lava.
2. In "Ocarina of Time", what purpose does the blue fire in the Ice Cavern serve?

Answer: Melts red ice

The blue fire in the Ice Cavern is used to melt the red ice blocks that block Link's path and hide treasures such as a piece of heart. Link also needs to collect some blue fire to free King Zora who is encased in red ice in order to receive the Zora Tunic.

Blue fire serves no other purpose once the Ice Cavern is complete and King Zora is freed. If a keese (a bat-like enemy) flies through the blue fire it will become an ice keese, capable of freezing Link.
3. In "Wind Waker", Link must complete the Fire Mountain mini dungeon in order to receive which items?

Answer: Power bracelets

Fire Island is a small erupting volcano. In order to enter the island, Link must shoot it with an ice arrow to stop the lava. Link then must complete the entire dungeon in five minutes otherwise the volcano will erupt and Link will have to start all over again.

The item inside is the power bracelets which will allow Link to lift heavy stones he would not normally be able to lift otherwise.
4. In "Breath of the Wild", Divine Beast Vah Rudania who spits fireballs at the Goron resembles which animal?

Answer: Salamander

In Japanese lore, salamanders have a special connection to fire and are often depicted in fiery places. In "Breath of the Wild", the Divine Beasts were supposed to aid in the people's fight against Calamity Ganon. However, Calamity Ganon used his power to turn the Divine Beasts against the people they were supposed to be protecting.

As a result, the salamander-like Vah Rudania turned against the Gorons. It took its place on Death Mountain and began spitting fire balls at all those who dared try to tame it.
5. Which of the following items will NOT protect Link from the dangerously high temperatures found in some fiery places?

Answer: Silent Princess

The silent princess is a flower found in "Breath of the Wild" that will give a stamina boost, not protection from the heat. Also in "Breath of the Wild", Link can use the chilly elixir or any ingredient with the word "chilly" in its name to protect himself temporarily from the heat. Some places require a low level resistance and some places require a higher resistance.

The Goron tunic can be found in "Ocarina of Time". Link can either purchase one from the Goron shop or receive one from Darunia's son also named Link. Link needs the Goron tunic to enter Death Mountain Crater and complete the Fire Temple.

The Fireshield Earrings are found in "Skyward Sword" (Wii) after Link completes the Silent Realm trial in Eldin Province. The Fireshield Earrings allow Link to enter the Volcano Summit and the Fire Sanctuary.
6. In "Spirit Tracks", what is the name of the Lokomo who protects the Fire Sanctuary?

Answer: Embrose

The Lokomo are small people with wheels for legs who protect the various realms of Hyrule. Embrose can be found in the Fire Sanctuary near Goron Village. He plays the timpani drums and will unlock the Spirit Tracks to the Fire Temple. Embrose's hair is flaming red and styled to look like flames.
7. Which of the following dungeon bosses does NOT use fire against Link?

Answer: Dharkstare from the Ice Ruins in "A Link Between Worlds"

Dharkstare will shoot ice orbs at Link, not fire. However, Link must use the fire rod to defeat Dharkstare.

Twinrova consists of two witches: Koume and Kotake. Link must deflect Koume's fire attacks at Kotake and Kotake's ice attacks at Koume. After a bit, Koume and Kotake will form into one being, Twinrova, and the battle continues along the same lines.

Hot Head resembles a giant flame and will attempt to burn Link by touching him or splashing lava at him. He must be defeated using the magic rod.

Trinexx is the boss of "A Link to the Past's" Turtle Rock. Trinexx has three heads: one that breathes fire, one that breathes ice and a main stone head in the middle. It is battles in a similar manner to Twinrova. Link needs to use the ice rod on the fire head and the fire rod on the ice head.
8. In which appropriately named place can Link located the Fire Element in "The Minish Cap"?

Answer: Cave of Flames

The Cave of Flames is the second dungeon Link visits in "The Minish Cap" on his journey to collect the four elements to forge the Four Sword. The Cave of Flames is located on Mount Crenel and appears to have been some kind of mine. There many rooms filled with lava and fire enemies. The boss is Gleerok, a kind of dragon who lives in the lava.
9. In "Phantom Hourglass", what does Link have to do to enter the Temple of Fire on the Isle of Ember?

Answer: Blow out the candles near the entrance

Link must use the DS's microphone to blow out the two candles. Doing so will unlock the Temple of Fire. This dungeons is more or less the standard fire dungeon with many puzzles and enemies involving fire. There are a lot of unlit torches that Link must light using his boomerang. The boss here is Blaaz, a fire breathing wizard-like creature.
10. In "Breath of the Wild", Link can start forest fires.

Answer: True

In "Breath of the Wild", Link can start a large fire almost anywhere. If he does this in a heavily wooded area, the flames will spread rapidly. Large fires can be created via bombs, fire arrows, torches or any fire weapon. Large fires will create updrafts that Link can ride to higher elevations. Starting a large fire is an easy way kill swarms of enemies without actually fighting them. Sometimes enemies themselves will cause the fires by exploding bomb barrels.
