Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Generally speaking, forest-themed dungeons are found toward the beginning of the games in the Zelda franchise.

Answer: True

In many of the games, Link is originally from a small town or village located in a forest area and the first dungeon he encounters is usually nearby and is forest themed. Such is the case in "Ocarina of Time" (N64), "Majora's Mask" (N64), "Oracle of Seasons" (GBC), "The Minish Cap" (GBA), "Twilight Princess" (Wii), "Spirit Tracks" (DS) and "Skyward Sword" (Wii).

Forest-themed dungeons tend to have enemies based on plants or insects. Many of these dungeons have areas that are poisonous that will slowly drain Link's health over time.
2. What is the name of the common plant enemy that resembles a Venus flytrap?

Answer: Deku Baba

Deku Babas are large plant enemies that look like giant Venus flytraps. They also resemble the piranha plant enemy from the "Super Mario" franchise. Deku Babas cannot move around but will lunge at Link when he approaches. Usually, Deku Babas are hidden until Link comes near them.

In more recent games, Deku Babas will hang from the ceiling or on the walls instead of just being on the ground. There are several varieties of Deku Babas including Big Deku Babas and Baba Serpents which can move around once Link severs their stalks from their bases.
3. In "Spirit Tracks", which Lokomo is the Guardian of the Forest Realm?

Answer: Gage

Gage is the Lokomo who protects the Forest Realm and lives in the Forest Sanctuary. When Link first visits Gage, the cello-playing Lokomo will teach Link a song that will restore the Spirit Tracks to the Forest Temple. Gage wears mostly green clothing and has a large green afro, indicating his connection with the forest.
4. Which of the following races of people do NOT typically live in forested areas?

Answer: Zora

The Zora are anthropomorphic fish people who live primarily in aquatic places like rivers and lakes, not in forested areas.

The Kikwi debuted in "Skyward Sword". They live in that game's Faron Woods and resemble some kind of rodent creature with leaves on their bodies. The Kokiri debuted in "Ocarina of Time" and are a race of children who live in the Kokiri Forest under the guidance of the Great Deku Tree. The Kokiri are not allowed to leave the forest or, according to them, they will die or turn into a monster. The Korok debuted in "The Wind Waker" (Gamecube) and are tiny people who look like leaves. According to "Hyrule Historia", an official history of Hyrule, the Korok are who the Kokiri become when they leave the Kokiri Forest. Like the Kokiri, Koroks are also protected by the Great Deku Tree.
5. Which temple serves as the forest-themed dungeon in "Skyward Sword"? Hint: Link must visit this dungeon twice.

Answer: Skyview Temple

Skyview Temple is the first major dungeon Link visits in "Skyward Sword". It is located in Deep Woods section of Faron Woods. The theme of the dungeon is forest and there are many plants and giant mushrooms in the dungeon as well as the usual forest enemies like Deku Babas and Skulltullas.

Link first visits Skyview Temple in his search for Zelda who is purifying herself in the temple's spring. Link must visit a second time to retrieve spring water to heal Faron the dragon.
6. In many "Zelda" games, the element of forest is also heavily associated with which other, less common, element?

Answer: Wind

Wind and forest themed puzzles seem to go hand in hand. Many forest-themed dungeons contain wind puzzles where Link must manipulate fans or use his tools to create or ride winds. Such is the case with the Forest Temple in "Ocarina of Time" and Forbidden Woods in "The Wind Waker".

In addition, the Forest Temple's wing of Hyrule Castle in "Ocarina of Time" contains only wind puzzles. Many of the key items found in forest areas are also wind based such as the Gale Boomerang in the Forest Temple of "Twilight Princess", the Deku Leaf in "The Wind Waker" and Korok Leaf in "Breath of the Wild" (Wii U/Switch).
7. Link's infamous Master Sword is usually found deep in a forest. In which of the follow games is that the case?

Answer: A Link to the Past (SNES)

The Master Sword is very often found in deep forested areas such as in "A Link to the Past" where Link must find the real Master Sword among many fakes. Other games where the Master Sword can be found in the forest are "Twilight Princess", "A Link Between Worlds" (3DS) and "Breath of the Wild".

There is no Master Sword in "Link's Awakening" as Link is traveling in a different land. In "The Wind Waker", the Master Sword is found in the sunken Hyrule Castle. In "Skyward Sword", the Master Sword is called the Goddess Sword and is found in Skyloft.
8. In "The Minish Cap", Link receives the Forest Element in the Deepwood Shrine.

Answer: False

There is no Forest Element in "The Minish Cap". Instead Link receives the Earth Element from in the Deepwood Shrine after completing it and defeating the boss: Big Green Chuchu.

The Deepwood Shrine is located in the Minish Woods and is an abandoned temple. The main puzzles involve manipulating wind and lily pads with the use of the Gust Jar found in the dungeon.
9. What is the name of the forested area featured in many games that will send Link back to the entrance if he makes a wrong turn?

Answer: Lost Woods

The Lost Woods is a dark, forested area that usually contains a maze-like puzzle. Link must follow a certain path or risk being sent back to the beginning. In some games, certain paths lead to dead ends or hidden treasures. Heavy fog usually enshrines the Lost Woods and may obscure items or pathways. Oftentimes there are small hints in the game that will give Link a clue as to the right path.

The Lost Woods are found in many games including "Ocarina of Time", "The Minish Cap", "A Link Between Worlds" and "Breath of the Wild".
10. In "A Link to the Past", the dungeon called Skull Woods is appropriately found in which Dark World location?

Answer: Skeleton Forest

In "A Link to the Past", Link must travel back and forth between the Light and Dark Worlds to rescue the sevens maidens imprisoned by Ganon. One of the maidens is held in the Skull Woods, a creepy forest dungeon located deep in the Skeleton Forest. The Skeleton Forest is the Dark World equivalent of the Lost Woods in the Light World.

The Skull Woods is a somewhat unique dungeon in that it requires Link to constantly enter and exit it through many different entrances. Typically, dungeons in the franchise consist of one building with one entrance.
