Among the leaders of the Mississippi Freedom Party were Fannie Lou Hammer, Ella Baker and Bob Moses.

The Mississippi Freedom Democratic Parties challenge was rejected and the delegation was not seated at the Democratic Convention.

In the 1964 presidential Election, the overwhelmingly white Mississippi electorate voted for the Republican candidate Barry Goldwater rather then Democrat Lyndon Johnson.
