Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the proper term for a "Green Card"?

Answer: Permanent Resident Card.

The card design keeps changing to help prevent counterfeiting.
2. What circumstance terminates an Affidavit of Support? (A document stating that you will be financially responsible for an immigrant)

Answer: Death.

An affidavit of support cannot be ended by divorce. Two reasons for termination include the applicant becoming a citizen or dying. Signing the affidavit is an agreement to support the immigrant, spouse, and children. It's a serious commitment and worth thinking about for a while.
3. If an applicant for a permanent US resident card is married for less than two years, for what kind of grant are they eligible?

Answer: Conditional.

Conditional permanent resident doesn't sound quite right, but that's what it is. The immigrant must reapply two years from the conditional grant to get the conditions removed. This is usually very easy and does not even require an interview unless there is suspicion of fraud.
4. Which of the following is an automatic denial of an application for Citizenship?

Answer: Applicant on probation.

An applicant needs to have 30 grams of marijuana to be found lacking good moral character. There are waivers for those who do not understand English, can't pass the history and civics test or cannot understand the Oath. Probation for any offense is an automatic denial.
5. Which of the following could get you a waiver for (parts of) the Citizenship test?

Answer: All of these.

All of these reasons provide waivers for at least portions of the testing. Documentation is needed for all.
6. How long does one generally have to be a permanent resident before applying for US citizenship?

Answer: 5 years.

Unless you are married to a U.S. citizen or a member of the military or some other exception, the waiting period is five years. You can file ninety days early.
7. Citizenship and Immigration Services is a part of what agency in January, 2005?

Answer: Homeland Security.

Immigration is now under Homeland Security. It was a part of the Justice Department until the restructuring.
8. Which of the following parts of the oath can be omitted because of religious objections?

Answer: I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by law.

The most common religious members to ask that parts of the oath be omitted are Jehovah's Witnesses.
9. Can appointments to inquire about your case at a local immigration office be made online?

Answer: Yes

INFOPASS is a way to make an appointment to find out information about your case with little or no waiting time. Just go to the immigration web site.
10. Where are almost all the forms located for immigration purposes?

Answer: Immigration Web Site.

Forms go out of date so it is always best to get the most recent form from the Immigration web site. Most forms can be mailed in and status can be checked on the phone.
