I'm curious about the language abilities of the Funtrivia populace. What languages do you speak? Which languages have you studied? Which languages do you find difficult to study? What has been your language learning experience?

I speak english and spanish fluently then average italian, french and portuguese enough to get get a bite to eat or a cold beer to loosen the tongue if you catch my drift. After a few cold ones you get real creative in a foreign language.

English as native, learnt Icelandic early on due to having family in Akureyri,
Picked up French and German at school, a smattering of Welsh, then at university, Anglo-Saxon (obviously written rather than spoken), mediaeval French, old high german, ancient greek, koine greek, modern greek, ancient and mediaeval latin, middle english, modern danish, modern portuguese and a smattering of italian spanish and chinese, swear words in a dozen others. No, I'm hopeless at languages lol.

My first language is English but I can also hold my own in french. Going to france this march break excited to put the language to good use.

If I could learn any language, it would have to be Mandarin, it is the most popular, I think. Or maybe german, sounds cool. Or maybe...I'll stop right there.

I'm very fluent in English, Arabic, and French. I'm working really hard on my Spanish, and I can understand a lot and throw together a lot of sentences.

Hopefully, I'll get better. :)

Speak Aussie English fluently, French reasonably, a few words each of Malay and Noongar and studied Latin for 5 years at school, so can understand quite a bit of that.
Can understand English English, but not American English !
I can understand and read some Italian, but don't speak it.
I grew up with parents who both spoke other languages as the first language they had learnt, so when I went to school and fell over, I told the teacher "winyarn, Miss.. saya sakit genna." i.e. "winyarn" is Noongar meaning "poor fellow or poor me".. "saya sakit" means "I hurt" in Malay, and "genna" is "foot" in Noongar.
Still can't understand why she didn't know what I was talking about.

I am fluent in English and American sign language.

I am pretty good in Spanish and French.

I also studied Chinese in college.

I have learning language CD's that I've worked on Dutch, German, Italian and Arabic with.

And most recently I'm trying to learn Brazilian Portuguese.

My native language is Estonian and the other one I'm pretty good at is English. I dare to call myself bilingual. Russian is my third language, I learned it for 7,5 years but I won't use it. The teacher did all she could to make this language repulsive, and succeeded. I also know a wee bit Finnish and Portuguese and a few expressions in French and German. :)

English is my native tongue; can understand a word or two of Spanish and Italian; recently learned one Pennsylvania-German term (but that dialect's local, so quite a few of the words have made it into everyday speech.

Never studied languages in public school-the administration thought it was beyond me or something.

Read a beginner's guide to Spanish, but the accents only confused me (no way to tell what the words were, as the Braille alphabet is different due to such accents).
