English. I studied French and Spanish at school. I can read and speak some Spanish and am surprised by the French and Italian I can read and understand. My daughter is currently learning Dutch so I play a game with her in Dutch, another interesting language. My father-in-law speaks Russian fluently, but it's a very difficult language to learn. English is may native tongue. I also studied French, German and Latin at school. Latin helped me understand Italian and Spanish to some extent though I did not study them. Reply #265. Jul 24 15, 8:20 PM |

I probably have the rarest language here. My mother tongue is Khasi, a language from the Mon-Khmer line of Austro-Asiatic languages. But I've studied English my whole life. I've actually become more fluent in English than my native language. Education pushed me into other parts of India (my home country). So I've gotten used to Hindi. I know a little of Bengali, Marathi, Punjabi, Bhojpuri, and Kashmiri. Television and literature got me interested in European languages. I'd love to be able to speak Gaelic, German, Italian, Spanish, French, Greek, and Dutch someday. Incidentally, I have a weird trait. I tend to (involuntarily) mimic the accent of whoever I am talking to. It's not a problem most of the time but it can lead to embarrassing situations. Reply #266. Aug 26 15, 1:27 PM |

I watched a film recently called "Errementari". It started automatically dubbed which I instantly changed to original language. It's filmed in the Basque-language. It was wonderful to hear that language. Reply #270. Sep 03 20, 3:58 PM |

I am fluent in English and ASL. I took Spanish, French and Latin in high school. I got the language award. First person to do all 3 in 10 years. Then in college I took Spanish, and French. I tried Chinese. That was too hard for me cause I can’t hear the tones. I know have the Duolingo app and am doing Greek, Spanish, French and Swahili. And when school starts up I have Introduction to Biblical Language which the intro class is 8 weeks of Hebrew and 8 weeks of Greek Reply #272. Dec 02 21, 5:04 PM |

My native language is English. I have studied Latin, French, Russian and, Heaven help me, briefly Irish. At one time, I was very good at both French and Russian but, you know the old saying, use it or lose it. Today, I'd be hard pressed to so much as order a cup of tea in either language. Reply #274.
