A Whiz of Crimes Trivia Quiz
Or: A Quiz of Rhymes
A slight difference to the usual classification quiz. All the words you see rhyme with the words that fall into the correct categories. Match each word to the appropriate category given their rhyming counterparts! Example in the special instructions. This is a renovated/adopted version of an old quiz by author salami_swami
A classification quiz
by salami_swami.
Estimated time: 3 mins.
The classification boxes contain words that rhyme with their category. For example, if the box is labeled "Seasons", you would place Splinter, Wing, Dumber and Bottom into it, as these are the answers that rhyme with Winter, Spring, Summer, and Autumn.
Everyone's favorite bear, the giant veranda... er, giant panda. The giant panda is native to China, and well known for its black and white fur and bamboo-eating habits. The giant panda has suffered from endangerment, and given its cute and lovable nature, has been the perfect mascot for conservation, particularly the World Wildlife Fund.
2. Zodiac
Answer: Species of Bear
The Kodiak bear is one of the largest species of bear, and is a subspecies of the brown bear. This very large bear is native to Alaska (it is sometimes referred to as the Alaskan brown bear), particularly the Kodiak islands. The Kodiak bear is a great example of island gigantism, where subspecies of an animal living isolated on an island become much larger than their counterparts.
3. Frizzly
Answer: Species of Bear
The grizzly bear is a subspecies of the brown bear, and lives in mountainous regions of North America. They once spanned the entire continent, down to Mexico, but have since lost the lower half of their range and typically do not travel much further than Yellowstone National Park.
The name grizzly comes from an original description by Lewis and Clark as "grisley", which could be interpreted both as "grisly", meaning gruesome, or "grizzly" (which was ultimately used in the name) meaning grey-tipped hair.
4. Bowler
Answer: Species of Bear
The polar bear is the largest species of bear, and is native to the Arctic (which translates to "of the bear"). Though we are familiar with the large carnivore appearing white, the fur itself is not white; it is clear. Interestingly, the skin is not white either; it is black! Because the polar bear lives in such a cold climate, the black skin and two thermal layers of fur provides perfect insulation to keep it warm, even when swimming in frigid waters.
5. Muscles
Answer: Capital Cities
The City of Brussels is the administrative center of the European Union as well as the capital of Belgium. Brussels is located within the Brussels-Capital Region, and is also capital of the French Community of Belgium and the Flemish Region. Men at Work chose the rhyme best when they sang "Down Under": "Buying bread from a man in Brussels. He was six-foot-four and full of muscles."
6. Grew Belly
Answer: Capital Cities
New Delhi is the capital of India, established as such in 1911 when the capital moved from Calcutta. The city was not inaugurated, however, until 1931. New Delhi is situated on several fault lines, so is susceptible to earthquakes, though typically these are not severe in nature. It has also been considered the most polluted city in the world, despite efforts to reduce pollution.
7. Maracas
Answer: Capital Cities
The capital of Venezuela is Santiago de Leon de Caracas, though we typically refer to it simply as Caracas. It is located on the Guaire River, and became the capital of the Venezuela province of the Spanish Empire in 1577, long before Venezuela's independence was recognized in 1845.
8. Moussaka
Answer: Capital Cities
Lusaka is the capital of Zambia, and though the city itself was only established in 1905, settlements in the area date back to the 11th century, possibly even longer ago. It became the official capital of Zambia with its independence in 1964. Lusaka is one of the fastest growing in southern Africa, with the majority of their population now living in an urban setting.
9. Jeff Sheppard
Answer: Rock Bands
Not to be confused with the former basketball star Jeff Sheppard, Def Leppard is an English rock band that formed in 1976. Their 1987 album, "Hysteria", is one of the best selling of all time, and spawned several hits, including "Love Bites" "Pour Some Sugar On Me".
In 2013, during the "Viva! Hysteria" Vegas residency, they had a Def Leppard cover band open for them named Ded Flatbird. Hilariously, that cover band, considered the best Def Leppard cover band of all time, is Def Leppard themselves.
10. Hotly New
Answer: Rock Bands
Mötley Crüe was formed in 1981, and with over 100 million albums sold worldwide, I'm sure they "Dr. Feelgood" (the name of their number one 1989 album) about that success. This album contained the song "Kickstart My Heart" (my personal favorite song of theirs), as well as "Without You" and "Same Ol' Situation (S.O.S.)".
11. Mario Freed Dragon
Answer: Rock Bands
REO Speedwagon was formed in 1967, and has produced a slew of top 40 hits. This includes two number one hits perfect for weddings, "Keep on Loving You" and "Can't Fight This Feeling". Perhaps the happy feeling of weddings helped cement REO Speedwagon as a mainstay of 80s rock music.
12. Coroner
Answer: Rock Bands
Foreigner was formed in 1976, and has had a plethora of hits since. With hits like "Jukebox Hero", "Feels Like the First Time", "Waiting for a Girl Like You", "Cold as Ice", and "Hot Blooded", Foreigner cemented themselves as a stronghold of 70s and 80s rock. That did not stop them, of course, as they continued to make hits into the 90s and 2000s.
13. Placenta
Answer: Shades of Purple
Magenta is a reddish purple color common in printers, as it pairs with yellow, black, and cyan in the CMYK color model. Though it was originally called fuchsine, it became magenta when it was named after the Battle of Magenta during the Second Italian War of Independence.

"You're turning violet, Violet!" This memorable "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" quote references the vibrant blue-purple color that is violet. The rainbow of seven colors does not include purple; Isaac Newton included violet in 1704 when he labeled the seven colors of the spectrum. The color itself dates back as far as 1370, when it was named after the violet flower.
15. Wendigo
Answer: Shades of Purple
Quite a number of various hues are referred to as indigo, as many of them do ring true as more blue than purple. While many of the shades are traditionally blue in nature, indigo has become far more purple in the digital age... the majority of indigo shades in web applications have become much more purple in shade than their blue predecessors.
16. Lucia

Fuchsia is a flowering plant that has vibrant pinkish purple petals. The color was so named after these beautiful petals. Fuchsia is similar to magenta, and in fact began as the same color in 1859 when it was known as fuchsine. That color ultimately went on to become magenta, with fuchsia officially being named its own color in 1892.
