This clue refers to the wonderful Betty White, who played Rose in the television series 'The Golden Girls' between 1985 and 1992. This show is only a drop in the ocean of Betty's career, which spanned so many years. She starred in 'Life with Elizabeth' (1953-1955), which she also produced, making her a pioneer as a woman in what was then a man's world.
Betty appeared in and on numerous game shows and was a regular on the 'Mary Tyler Moor Show'. She died in 2021, less than three weeks before what would have been her one hundredth birthday.
2. Inlet of Barents Sea in Russia

This clue refers to the White Sea, which is located on the north west coast of Russia. It is surrounded by the region of Karelia and the peninsulas of Kola and Kanin. The main port of the White Sea is Arkhangelsk on the Northern Dvina River.
The port, known in English as Archangel, was one of the ports which received convoys during World War II, delivering supplies to the country.
3. Beluga whale

Because of its colouring, the beluga whale is also known as the white whale - in fact, its scientific name is Delphinapterus leucas. Words beginning 'leuc' or 'leuk' refer to white. The beluga lives in the Arctic and doesn't have a dorsal fin, assumed to be an evolutionary adaptation to make diving under ice easier.
Belugas have a wide range of vocalisations which they use for communicating with each other and are nicknamed the canaries of the sea as a result.
4. Lemon Pipers' tambourine

The band known as The Lemon Pipers had a fairly short career in the 1960s, being active from 1966 until 1969. Their biggest hit record, by far, was 'Green Tambourine' which reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1967. The song did well in other countries, getting to number seven on the UK Singles Chart.
The song captured the psychedelic feel of the time period, but The Lemon Pipers soon broke up with the members going their separate ways.
5. Chlorophyll

Chlorophyll is what makes most plants look green to humans. It is a group of pigments associated with photosynthesis in plants, the process which turns light into energy and releases oxygen into the atmosphere.
Chlorophyll does not absorb green light from the spectrum, instead reflecting it so that we see green when we look at plants.
6. Jennifer Aniston character

Jennifer Aniston played Rachel Green in the television series 'Friends'. The show ran from 1994 until 2004 for ten series, with a one-off reunion episode in 2021. The show focussed on six main characters - Rachel, plus Ross Geller, his sister Monica, Chandler Bing, Phoebe Buffay and Joey Tribbiani.
The series was known for its comedy and the focus on the friendships and love affairs of the main characters. Eventually, after many mishaps, Ross and Rachel ended up together as did Chandler and Monica.
7. Cleveland football team

The Cleveland Browns formed in 1944 and took their name from Paul Brown, their original coach and the man who formed the team in partnership with Mickey McBride. The team was initially successful, but problems arose in the 1990s when the then owner wanted to move them to Baltimore.
Although this plan was foiled, with the owner setting up the Baltimore Ravens instead, the team struggled to make an impact and had very limited success in the years that followed.
8. Hot Chocolate lead singer

The singer's name was Errol Brown, who died in 2015. He was born in Jamaica and came to England at the age of eleven - his father was a policeman. Errol began his music career in 1969 and he, and the band, became successful almost immediately with hits in the UK and breaking into the US market.
Among the band's hits are 'Emma' (1974), 'You Sexy Thing' (1975) and 'So You Win Again' (1977).

10. Chinese river

The Yellow River is second in length only to the Yangtze in China, where it is better known as the Huanghe. The name is derived from the colour of the water, caused by the sediment it carries.
The Yellow River is considered to be the cradle of Chinese civilisation, with humans living along its banks since 2000 BCE according to historical sources. The river is around 3,400 miles (5,500 km) in length.
11. Joni's taxi

Joni Mitchell released 'Big Yellow Taxi' in 1970. The theme of the song is environmental issues, with lyrics about covering up the landscape to create parking spaces and the use of DDT (now mostly banned) by farmers. Joni says she was inspired by a visit to Hawaii where she could see mountains in the distance but only parked cars nearer to where she was.
The song was popular, reaching the lower reaches of the charts in several countries, and has been covered by other artists including Amy Grant and the Counting Crows.
12. Cross on Sweden's flag

All the Scandinavian countries, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland and Denmark, have flags with Nordic crosses on them. The design has the central cross, where the vertical and horizontal lines meet, set towards the hoist side rather than centrally.
Sweden's flag has a blue background with a yellow cross. It was adopted in 1906.
