Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Distribute the cards: DELAWARE +

Answer: ALABAMA

DELAWARE + ALABAMA = DE + AL

If you were to play a round of poker in one of these two states, then you would probably need to go to one of the racetracks in Delaware (Bally's for instance, was built alongside the horse racetrack in Dover). Alabama, however, enshrined the illegality of gambling into their state constitution; while slots and bingo, both classed as 'video gambling', are legal, poker wouldn't be legal in the Yellowhammer State.
2. A skin marking: SOUTH CAROLINA +

Answer: ARKANSAS

SOUTH CAROLINA + ARKANSAS = SC + AR

While a scar can be on the skin, any deep gash can leave a mark. In the state of South Carolina, you could visit the scar known as Jocassee Gorges, which features numerous canyons and waterfalls cutting through protected forest lands in the state's northwest corner. In Arkansas, they have their own Grand Canyon in the Ozarks.
3. Intellect: MICHIGAN +

Answer: NORTH DAKOTA

MICHIGAN + NORTH DAKOTA = MI + ND

Talk about states of MIND, right? Perhaps a place to cultivate the mind in these two states would be a university. In Michigan, the University of Michigan in Lansing is likely the top school for post-secondary education while Grand Forks, North Dakota is home to the University of North Dakota. The University of Michigan Library is the second-largest research library in the United States.
4. Numerous: MASSACHUSETTS +

Answer: NEW YORK

MASSACHUSETTS + NEW YORK = MA + NY

And these two bordering states on the East Coast of the U.S. are 'many' indeed as both of them are quite highly populated; New York City is one of the most populated cities on the continent while Boston, on the Massachusetts coast, has been a historic population hub since before the nation found independence.
5. An activity on a board: GEORGIA +

Answer: MAINE

GEORGIA + MAINE = GA + ME

Want to play a game? Well, if you're looking at these two states, the free PC MOBA game "Smite" was created by Hi-Rez Studios in Alpharetta, Georgia, a small part of northern Atlanta (in Fulton County). Maine, on the other hand, has been the setting of a number of video games in the "Silent Hill" series, even though a clear inspiration was Centralia, Pennsylvania.
6. Father: PENNSYLVANIA +

Answer: PENNSYLVANIA

PENNSYLVANIA + PENNSYLVANIA = PA + PA

A curveball, eh? Papa would be a colloquial term for father in a number of different countries. The presumed Father of Pennsylvania would be William Penn, whose name became part of the name of the state. Founding and expanding his Quaker colony, it's his land that became not only the state, but one of the key locations at which America would be able to achieve its independence.
7. Wrap around: COLORADO +

Answer: ILLINOIS

COLORADO + ILLINOIS = CO + IL

To make a coil is to make a loop for a long line that wraps around something or, sometimes, the item itself. While a long cord or a spring can coil, so can a snake. In Colorado, there are two venomous snakes-- the western rattlesnake and the Massasauga rattlesnake. Both of them might coil. Illinois has more: the Massasauga, the cottonmouth, the cottonhead, and the timber rattlesnake.
8. Molten rock: LOUISIANA +

Answer: VIRGINIA

LOUISIANA + VIRGINIA = LA + VA

Lava is the form of molten rock that occurs when it has erupted from a volcano or fissure (magma is inside of it), so you might be used to seeing lava flow or hardened into its solid form. While Louisiana isn't really a state conducive to finding lava, Virginia was, at one time. More than forty-seven million years ago, to be exact, when the tectonic plates on this side of the country formed the Appalachians. In contemporary times, you'd be likelier to find lava on the west coast or Hawaii.
9. Embedded with decoration: INDIANA + LOUISIANA +

Answer: IDAHO

INDIANA + LOUISIANA + IDAHO = IN + LA + ID

When something is inlaid, it involves being embedded into something, usually with intent, like a piece of furniture inlaid with a metal design, or gold jewellery inlaid with diamonds. Idaho would likely be a go-to if you're looking to create a silver inlay as an embellishment. Mining operations in Idaho have led the state to be one of the most important silver producers in the United States while Louisiana leads in salt and Indiana is known for, historically, manufacturing transportation equipment.
10. Relating to water: MASSACHUSETTS + RHODE ISLAND +

Answer: NEBRASKA

MASSACHUSETTS + RHODE ISLAND + NEBRASKA = MA + RI + NE

A marina, generally, is regarded as a harbour for boats, especially smaller ones, and is found on a body of water of requisite size. Rhode Island and Massachusetts have numerous marinas as both have coastline on the Atlantic. Nebraska, however, is a bit more unique since it's entirely landlocked. You can, however, find marinas along the Missouri River and its tributaries. Rhode Island and Massachusetts, technically, would be more marine-aligned states, though.
