Nick Fury was the squad leader for the Howling Commandos. He was introduced in "Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos" issue #1, May 1963. He was usually shown chomping on a cigar. He was tough and a good leader for the racially and ethnically integrated elite unit of commandos.
