"Arthur" Season 18 Trivia Quiz

This quiz is only ten questions, not fifteen like most of my Arthur quizzes. That's because season 18 is one of my least favorite seasons. However, it has some good episodes and if you like those episodes, this quiz is for you.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "D.W. and Bud's Higher Purpose", D.W. and Bud try to make themselves taller so they can ride on a roller coaster. Do they succeed?

Answer: No

The amusement park has a dangerous roller coaster called "The Buzzard". Kids have to be a certain height to be able to ride it. There is a cardboard cutout of a monkey near the ride and if the kids aren't tall enough to see eye to eye with the monkey's arms, they cannot go on the ride.

They try several tricks to make themselves taller, but the ticket person catches their tricks every time. At one point, the ticket person goes on a break and a less intelligent ticket person takes over and lets D.W. and Bud go on the ride.

However, they see that the kids who just got off the ride are looking sick. They decide not to go on the ride.
2. In "The Case of the Girl With the Long Face", does Buster correctly solve the case?

Answer: No

Fern is feeling sad and she does not know why. George wants a detective to find out who made her sad. He cannot ask the best detective that he knows, because that is Fern and she does not know why she is sad. Buster shows up and decides to take the case. Buster tries three different ideas.

He is 100% sure that all of them will work. None of them work. At the end of the episode, it turns out that no one made Fern sad. Fern just sometimes gets sad for a few days and then she feels better. However, she writes her best stories when she is sad.
3. In "The Substitute Arthur", Buster inadvertently upsets most of his friends. Who inadvertently helps him understand how he upset them?

Answer: D.W.

When Arthur goes away with his family on a vacation for a weekend, Buster is devastated. His mother suggests that he call his other friends and do the same activities with them that he does with Arthur. Buster tries this, but it turns out that they enjoy different activities than the ones Arthur and Buster do.

Buster initially refuses to try their favorite activities. Feeling desperate, he plays a board game with D.W. When he sees how bossy and selfish D.W. is behaving, Buster realizes that's how he had been behaving. He calls his other friends again and this time, he tries their favorite activities. He ends up improving at them and enjoying them all. When Arthur returns home, he is puzzled to see how much Buster as changed. Arthur is horrified when Buster tells him that D.W. is the one who inspired that change.
4. In "Best Wishes", who has wish mojo?

Answer: George

When George, Buster, Binky, and Francine blow on a dandelion, three of them wish for snow and George wishes for cupcakes. It does not snow but around the corner, a baker hands out free cupcakes. Because only George's wish came true, he is treated like a star at school. Jenna wants him to come to her birthday party and make her wish for her. George does not like all of this pressure. Also, Prunella says that it is bad luck if a kid gives her birthday wish to someone else. George flips a coin on the ice of a frozen water fountain.

The next day it snows and George is thanked for it. He says that he did not wish for snow. The other kids say that they do not care why it is snowing and they decide to leave him alone. George feels glad when this is over.
5. In "The Tardy Tumbler", who does gymnastics?

Answer: Marina

Marina tries out for gymnastics class. Prunella is there to provide whatever support she needs. Prunella has no intention of trying out, but the coach makes her try out because she is there. Marina makes the team. Prunella also makes the team because all of her yoga practice prepared her for this.

Gymnastics practice is before school at six in the morning. Ms. Datillo's car is at Prunella's house ready to pick her up at 5:30. The first two days, Prunella wakes up too late. She and Marina end up getting two strikes (three strikes and they are out). Prunella does not do well in practice. The coach tells her that when she finds what she is passionate about, she must work hard at it and not anything stop her, just like her blind friend (Marina's mother told him that Marina is blind).

On the third day, Prunella wakes up early, but then she discovers a huge traffic jam outside her house. She finds that the source of it is that Ms. Datillo's car broke down. Marina is sad that she is about to get strike three. Prunella remembers what the coach says and finds something she is passionate about: helping Marina. Prunella shows Marina a shortcut and she gets Marina there even before the coach. The coach is impressed with Marina's diligence and also with Prunella getting Marina there early. The coach asks Prunella if she ever thought about becoming a coach, which makes Prunella feel good.
6. In "Arthur Calls it", what does Arthur call?

Answer: Out

When Mr. Ratburn forfeits his little league umpire duties, the other players agree to make Arthur the umpire for the rest of the game because he is the fairest player there. Buster nearly hits but he gets tagged. Arthur calls, "Out." Buster, Francine, and Muffy are 100% sure that Buster's foot was on home plate before the catcher tagged him.

They try everything to change Arthur's mind. Arthur doesn't budge. Buster then gets a meditation CD. This helps him remember every detail and he decides that Arthur was right.

This convinces the other kids to agree that Arthur was the umpire and his call is final.
7. In "Whip, Mix, Blend", whose mother says that she is going to re-marry?

Answer: Rattles

The tough customers plan a protest outside a fast food place to protest their unhealthy food. It's on a Sunday, but Rattles says that he cannot be there because he is spending time with his new family. He knows that his mother has been dating a new man who has some new kids and they are going to spend the weekend at their place. Rattles' problem is that does not understand these kids and does not know how to get along with him. The other tough customers try to help him.

When the weekend comes, Rattles still cannot really get along with them. He is scared when he learns out that his mother is marrying these kids' father and they are going to be brothers and sisters. Eventually he tells them that they will have to make some compromises, which they agree to. Rattles ends up making it to the protest and bringing his new siblings along to help. The episode ends with Rattles coming up with a better chant than the one they had been using.
8. In "Messy Dress Mess", Muffy lends a dress to who?

Answer: Ladonna

Ladonna wants a new dress for a school performance. She does not like the one her mother makes for her. Muffy gives her one. Ladonna tries it on. It fits perfectly and she loves how he looks in it. However, she sits on a recently-painted bench and gets paint all over the dress.

She feels too guilty to tell Muffy about it right away. At the performance, she decides to wear the dress her mother made. Everyone thinks she looks great. Muffy is puzzled at first. After the performance, Ladonna explains what happened. Muffy does not care what happened because she was never going to wear the dress anyway (it wasn't her color).

At the end of the episode, Ladonna's mother takes a picture of her and Muffy.
9. In "Arthur Read Super Saver" what does Arthur do with his extra-big allowance?

Answer: He donates it to families in need

Work is slow for the Read parents, so they tell Arthur that they are trying to save money. Throughout the episode, Arthur comes up with various ways to save money. His initial efforts (such as doing the dishes by getting Pal to lick them and cutting the lawn with scissors) do not please his parents.

They tell him that he is over-estimating how bad their financial situation is. The Read parents come up with better money-saving methods. Then, Arthur comes up with better money-saving methods. Near the end of the episode, Mr. Read is back in business.

He gives Arthur an extra-large allowance as a reward for helping the family save money when times were tough. He goes to the toy store to get a toy, but right outside the store, a kid is collecting money for families in need. Arthur donates his money to that.
10. In "Shelter From the Storm", what is the name of the hurricane that hits Elwood City?

Answer: Sadie

This episode is inspired by an actual natural disaster that hit the Eastern part of the United States in 2012. It was called Hurricane Sandy. On the show, it's Hurricane Sadie. This episode shows the aftermath. A lot of families were affected.

The Crosswire mansion gets flooded and loses power and they have to spend a few days in a shelter. Muffy complains constantly until she meets another kid her age. The kid knows a lot about the shelter because her family has been living there for a while and she tells Muffy some things about it. When that kid's family takes Muffy to the remains of their home, Muffy is horrified to see that someone's home was damaged worse than her home. This changes Muffy's attitude. When the Crosswire home is fixed, Muffy invites the kid to stay with them. The kids rejects the offer and her family goes to her uncle's place.

Arthur sees a commercial that says that some people had to abandon their pets. Buster tells him to volunteer at the animal shelter. He does so, and they are trying to reunite pets with their owners but do not have much money. Arthur raises money for him. He does not raise much money at first, but his mother makes a website that raises awareness. Mr. Ratburn tells Arthur to tell the class about the website. It is a huge success. The abandoned dog that he sees on TV ends up with a new owner and is named Sadie.

Ladonna's father is in the military, so he leaves to do his job (helping out people that were affected by the hurricane). She is afraid that he might miss her birthday. She tells Bud not to tell anyone because she does not want anyone feeling sorry for her. Bud does not believe this. He tells everyone he knows. As school is ending for the day, Buster leaves school with some wooden planks and glue, telling Ladonna that he is going to fix the treehouse. Ladonna knows the glue will not hold so she takes Buster to a store to get supplies and then they go to the treehouse. Ladonna is baffled that the treehouse is not damaged. Several people come out of hiding and say "surprise!" which means that Buster was just tricking her to lure her there for the party. Ladonna's father makes a brief appearance at the party. She ends up having a great time.

Brain's ice cream show gets damaged by a tree that falls on it. This gives Brain post-traumatic stress disorder. Brain's parents take him to a therapist, played by Idina Menzel. The therapist teaches him breathing exercises. He is late to Ladonna's party because he hears wind everywhere and it scares him, but he uses the breathing exercises, overcomes his fear, makes it to the party, and gives Ladonna a globe that says "Happy birthday Ladonna." At the end of the episode, Brain's ice cream shop re-opens, business is great, and the therapist becomes a customer. When she asks how Brain is feeling, he says, "Thirsty."
