Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "Buster's Second Chance", we learn that when Buster was a toddler, he tried to get into a school for geniuses. Why didn't he succeed?

Answer: He put a marble in his nose

Brain wins an award for proving that a water fountain is bad. Buster gets mad because he knew the water fountain was bad before Brain did. Arthur explains that everyone knew it was bad but Brain is the only one who proved it. Buster says that he is every bit as smart as Brain, but he made a mistake that changed his life forever.

When Buster was a toddler, his mother took him to audition for a school for geniuses. The school gave him some tests. For one of the tests, there were two jars. One of them had round marbles and one of them had square marbles. Buster was given a round marble and asked where it should go. He put it in his nose. Needless to say, he failed to get into the genius school and had to go to regular school. In the present, Buster tells Arthur that he did this because the correct answer seemed so obvious that he thought it was a trick question. Buster says that if he had just gone with the obvious answer, he'd be as smart as Brain.

After this, most of the rest of the episode is Buster having a dream in which he put the marble in the right jar and got into the school. In his dream, he goes to the school for geniuses. However, life isn't all good. In this dream, Buster and Arthur are not friends. Instead, Arthur is a tough customer (bully). They meet in a comic book store. Arthur admits that he is sad because no one loves "Bionic Bunny" or "Love Ducks" like he does and if he met just one person who did, his life would be very different.

When Buster wakes up, he's back to being the same Buster that he's always been. Arthur is no longer a tough customer and he and Buster are friends again. Buster realizes he'd rather not be a genius, after all.
2. In "Arthur and the Whole Truth", we learn that Buster always tells Arthur the truth, not caring whether or not it will hurt his feelings.

Answer: False

Buster always tells Arthur what he wants to hear, not necessarily the truth, because Buster does not want to hurt Arthur's feelings. Francine is the first person to tell Arthur this. In this episode, Arthur tells Buster to tell the truth and not care about Arthur's feelings. Buster does just that, and Arthur is quite surprised at what he finds out. Arthur finds out that he does not like being told the truth when it does not benefit him.

At the end of the episode, Arthur apologizes to Buster. Arthur then decides that he is not going to tell the truth if it will hurt Buster.
3. In "Fern's Flights of Fancy", Fern writes a story about a man who communicates with what?

Answer: Birds

Buster shows Fern a flyer for a writing contest in which the winner gets her story published in the Elwood City times. Fern writes a story about a man who communicates with birds. She shares it with George and submits it for the contest. George loves the story, but Fern does not win and she hates the winning story.

She is so angry that she decides to give up writing and become an athlete, though all her friends tell her that is a bad idea. She does not become a good athlete and she still has a desire to write. George finds her ripped up story in her trash can, tapes it together, and submits it to the Frensky Star and it gets published. At first, Fern is angry that George got it published without her permission. When all of her friends love the story, Fern has a change of heart. She dedicates the story to George.
4. In "He Said He Said", who helps build the tower and also correctly explains the "Bionic Bunny" episode?

Answer: Carl

Arthur, Buster, George, Carl, D.W., and Bud are at the Read house. Arthur and Buster are there to watch the "Bionic Bunny" special episode and D.W. and Bud to build the tallest tower of cows in the world. George and Carl are just there to bond with Arthur and Buster. The cable goes out and they miss most of the episode. Arthur and Buster argue over what happens in the episode. As the episode progresses, Carl develops an interest in helping build the tower while Bud develops an interest in the episode. Arthur and Buster's arguing make Carl upset, so George quiets them. George says that he is going to tell them what happens in the episode, but he just tells the story of "The Wind in the Willows."

When Arthur and Buster call him out on that, he admits he has never seen the episode. Bud gets frustrated by listening to everyone's conflicting accounts over what happens in the episode, which causes him to jump up and down, which causes the tower to shake. Carl tells the other kids to hold the tower while he tells Bud the truth about what happens in the episode. The TV comes back on and they kids watch the ending. Buster is disappointed by the episode, but astonished that Carl perfectly remembered the ending of the episode. George tells the other kids that Carl is great at that. Carl says that he only saw one episode of "Bionic Bunny" and it was that one. At the end of the episode, a "Bionic Bunny" hat gets put on top of the completed tower, though we never found out if it broke the world record.
5. In "Bud's Knotty Problem", what is Bud's problem?

Answer: He can't tie his shoes

In a magazine, he sees an ad for some shoes that he really wants. Those shoes have laces and he cannot tie laces. His mother promises him that if he learns how to tie shoes, she will get those boots for him. Emily and D.W. try to teach him how, but they are not good teachers. Ladonna does a good job of teaching him. It takes him a lot of tries, but eventually he ties his shoes.
6. In "Lend me an Ear", how did Mr. Ratburn lose his hearing?

Answer: Loud music

Arthur sees Mr. Ratburn looking at guitars inside a music store. When Arthur says "hello" to him, he does not respond. Arthur goes to Brain's ice cream shop to tell him this, and Brain says that the same thing happened to him the last time he saw Mr. Ratburn. After Brain tells his story to Arthur, Mr. Ratburn goes into the ice cream shop and orders three scoops of ice cream. When Brain says "Cup or cone," Mr. Ratburn says "yes" (he does not say "cup" or "cone" like he should have). Mr. Ratburn says that the ice cream is for "the lost teachers."

Arthur, Brain, and Buster (he was there, too) conclude that Mr. Ratburn is depressed because it is summer time, school is out, and he has no one to teach and nothing to do. The next day, they go to his house, planning to ask him to give them some quizzes. Mr. Ratburn invites them in. He explains that he is not depressed at all, he has a hearing problem. He then explains how the ear works. When Arthur asks him how he lost his hearing, two other people show up and he invites them all to the basement. It turns out that Mr. Ratburn is in a rock band called "The Lost Teachers" and he didn't used to protect his ears, so the loud music damaged his ears. Now, the band wears ear plugs and they give some to the kids. The episode ends with The Lost Teachers playing a song called "Pop Quiz".
7. In "The Butler Did it", what is the name of the Crosswires' new robotic Butler?

Answer: KEATS

Muffy buys KEATS for her father for Father's Day. It's a robotic butler that can serve people in any way possible. Muffy's father loves it. It does all the chores Bailey normally does. Bailey decides to take a day off. Muffy misinterprets Bailey, thinks he is going to leave, and asks Francine for help. None of Francine's suggestions work. At one point, Muffy is locked in the basement. Just as KEATS is about to let her out, Muffy's father asks KEATS for a snack. KEATS leaves the door and gets the snack while Muffy screams "HELP!" Bailey hears Muffy's screams and lets her out.

When Mr. Crosswire asks KEATS why it didn't let Muffy out, it explains that he wanted a snack and it is programmed to put his needs above everyone else's. Mr. Crosswire gets rid of KEATS. Muffy tells Bailey that he does not have to leave. Bailey tells Muffy that he never intended to leave and that he had built a sculpture and a gallery agreed to do an exhibit for it. At the end of the episode, Muffy and her father ask Bailey to make lunch for them.
8. In "Prunella's Tent of Portent", does Prunella win the bet fair and square?

Answer: No

Prunella makes a bet with Marina that she will make three predictions that will come true. If Prunella wins, Marina does the "I'm sorry" dance in front of everyone. If Marina wins, Prunella stops fortune telling. Prunella's first two predictions come true pretty quickly. Her third prediction is that Marina will lose something and then find it. Prunella steals and hides Marina's friendship bracelet so that Marina loses it. Prunella then puts it on Marina's bed so she will find it. Prunella thinks that she has won the bet. What Prunella does not know is that because Marina is blind, her hearing is better than normal. Marina heard the jingling of her necklace when Prunella took it and she could hear the direction it was coming from. So, Marina gets angry.

That night, Prunella has a nightmare. The next morning, Prunella confesses the truth to Marina. That's when Marina tells her that she heard it being moved. Marina does not have to do the "I'm sorry" dance in front of everyone because Prunella did not win her bet fairly. However, Marina tells Prunella that she does not have to give up fortune telling. For one thing, Prunella loves fortune telling. Secondly, Marina almost lost her best friend and got her back, so the prediction was kind of true.
9. In "The Hallway Minotaur", who resigns?

Answer: Mr. Haney

Mr. Haney resigns as principal and moves to Tanzania to help build a school there. Ms. Tingley becomes the interim principal. Her first goal is to enforce rules that have always been there but that Mr. Haney never enforced. She asks for George's help because he is the only student in the school who has never gotten in trouble. She makes George a hallway monitor so the rules get enforced. George does not do very well on his first day. On his second day, he becomes much better at his job. He enforces every single rule in Ms. Tingley's complex rule book. The other kids do not like him. George then realizes that he has gone overboard and everyone is afraid of him.

The next day, there is an assembly so the kids can say goodbye to Mr. Haney. Brain is in charge of connecting the cable so they can do so, but he walks very slowly so he can avoid getting demerits. George is afraid that the cable will not get hooked up in time. So, George runs in the hall and gets the cable. Running is against the rules, so Ms. Tingley plans on punishing him, but she attends the assembly first. We do not see or hear the assembly but we learn that Mr. Haney said that it is important not to enforce every single rule all the time. Ms. Tingley realizes that her rules were unfair and she gets rid of her rulebook and eliminates the position of hall monitor.

The reason that the writers wrote Mr. Haney out of the show is because his voice actor, Walter Massey, had passed away. The season 19 episode "Brain Sees Stars" is dedicated to him. His last speaking role is in the season 19 episode "Mr. Ratburn's Secret Identity." The writers had no desire to replace Massey, so they eliminated the character of Mr. Haney. This episode is his send off.
10. In "Ladonna's Like List", whose name does not get a check on the first day of the list?

Answer: George

Ladonna thinks that everyone likes her, but Bud says that it's impossible to be liked be everyone. Ladonna makes a list of everyone in the class and she makes it her mission to prove that they all like her. When they do something that proves that they like her, she puts a check next to their names. On the first day, she gets all the names except George. Throughout the first day, she isn't very nice to him. After Bud points out that she did not get George's name checked off, Ladonna tells him that she is not worried because George likes everyone.

The next day, she quickly finds out that getting George to like her is harder than she thought. One day, she writes a song for him and sings it in front of the class. George does not like that kind of attention so he runs off. George wonders why Ladonna did this. Then, George finds Ladonna's list, which she had dropped. He notices that every name is checked off except his. He confronts Ladonna about it, then puts two checks next to his name so she will leave him alone. Ladonna realizes that she had been unfair to George. She goes to his house and apologizes to him. The next day, George tells her that he likes her as long as she is not reciting a poem for him. They decide to help each other with ventriloquism.
