Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "Mr. Ratburn and the Special Someone", who does Mr. Ratburn marry?

Answer: Patrick

Mr. Ratburn invites his class to his wedding. Some of them overhear him talking to a stern, seemingly-unfriendly woman named Patty. These kids think that Mr. Ratburn is going to marry her and they fear that he is going to be miserable spending the rest of his life with such a mean woman. It turns out that Patty is Mr. Ratburn's older sister and she is planning and officiating the wedding. She is not who Mr. Ratburn marries. Mr. Ratburn marries a man named Thomas.

This episode was banned in Alabama. However, most of the world considers this to be one of the best episodes ever made. In the episode, everybody is happy for Mr. Ratburn. Nobody in the episode is upset about who he is marrying. In the real world, the reaction to this episode is mostly favorable. Most people were thrilled with what was revealed about Mr. Ratburn in this episode and most people praised the episode for not making a big deal out of it.
2. In "When Rivals Came to Roost", what school is severely damaged by a burst pipe?

Answer: Mighty Mountain

Lakewood and Mighty Mountain are arch rivals. When a burst pipe floods Mighty Mountain, their students have to go to Lakewood for a while. Brain thinks these kids will sabotage their science project. Sure enough, at lunch, the Mighty Mountain kids break Lakewood's science project, although Los Dedos says it is an accident.

The two schools decide to combine their projects and work together. Lakewood and Mighty Mountain win first prize at the science fair together.
3. In "The Longest Eleven Minutes", what do the kids lose?

Answer: Internet

The internet goes down. This horrifies most of the kids. They end up learning about what people did before the internet. Mr. Read listens to music on the radio and he has a book of encyclopedias and a self-developing camera. He lets the kids borrow these things.

The kids have fun with these things for eleven minutes. They even rescue a bird. At the end of the episode, the internet is back on. Arthur says he wasn't worried, but no one believes him.
4. In "Muffy's House Guests", what kind of birds lived on Muffy's balcony?

Answer: Falcons

Peregrine falcons build a nest on a rail on Muffy's balcony. Brain sees this and he is fascinated. Muffy is horrified when she finds out. She asks Bailey to get rid of the nest, and he does not want to do it. Brain calls the Wildlife Reserve and they say it's illegal to touch the nest of an endangered species, so Bailey does not follow orders, and the falcons stay there.

The falcons make noise all night which prevents Muffy from sleeping. The second day, egg shells hatch and some pieces fall on Muffy's head. Brain informs Mr. Ratburn, who then gets everyone he knows to come to Muffy's house. The news crew comes, too. Mr. Crosswire takes this opportunity to do a commercial for Crosswire Motors while dressed in his bird suit.

Brain finds out that Muffy has been afraid of birds since her fourth birthday, when her parents took her to a restaurant and two waiters dressed in bird costumes brought her the cake. Muffy did not like the look of their costumes and she ran off screaming and she has been afraid of birds ever since. Brain tells Muffy that to conquer her fear, she must learn as much as she can about birds.

Muffy then becomes the birds' best friend. She even throws a shoe at a raccoon that was going to eat the baby birds. Six weeks later, the news crew and all the bird fans of Elwood City return to Muffy's home for the last day that the birds are there. They watch as the birds fly off. Muffy has done some research on birds and she says that they are most likely going to Tierra Del Fuego. Muffy then starts an Instagram account about birds so that other bird fans can share their pictures with her.
5. In "Binky Can't Always Get What He Wants", what kind of animals are up for adoption?

Answer: Cats

Binky gets a role in a commercial, but he also agreed to play music for a cat adoption show. Rehearsals for the commercial conflict with the talent show. Binky cannot do both. Initially, he plans to cancel his part in the cat show so he can do the commercial. However, it takes him too long to tell Mr. Ratburn this. By the time he gets to the studio, he is late and he has been fired. Sue Ellen has been hired to replace him in the commercial. So, he must do the cat show.

Binky had been instructed to play some happy and energetic music to influence people to adopt cats. He is so depressed about losing his role in the commercial that he plays sad music for the first half of the cat show. Intermission comes and no one has adopted a cat. The cat wrangler, Maria, scolds Binky. The cats all get on top of Binky and purr, which makes him feel better. After this, he has a change of heart and decides he will do whatever he can to help the cats. He plays happy and energetic music in the second half of the show. 17 cats get adopted and Mr. Ratburn praises Binky for his performance. When Binky says that he is still sad about missing the commercial, Maria shows him a video of Sue Ellen's rehearsal. It turns out that Sue Ellen is not enjoying it and no one is helping her. So, Binky was much better off doing the cat show than the commercial.
6. In "Muffy's Car Campaign", why is Muffy opposed to the idea of a cleaner environment?

Answer: She thinks it would ruin her father's business

In the cafeteria, the kids notice that their favorite vegetables are no longer being served. That is because the cafeteria only serves in-season locally-grown vegetables now. It's better for the environment. Ms. MacGrady teaches the kids about pollution and about protecting the environment. The kids decide that she is right and they come up with a plan.

Francine starts a group called the "Eco Kids" which comes up with ideas for protecting the environment. Their first idea is to give people pamphlets which stop them from idling. That works splendidly. Their second idea is to convince the school to get more buses so that there will be fewer cars on the road taking kids to school. Everyone does their share to help make this happen except Muffy, who secretly plans on sabotaging this idea because it might ruin her father's business. Muffy is chosen to present this to Ms. Tingley (Ms. Tingley is now the principal because Mr. Haney is gone), but Muffy does not talk to the principal and throws the signatures in the trash. Francine had been suspicious of Muffy and she secretly spies on her and sees this. Muffy is booted from the "Eco Kids".

Muffy explains all of this to her father. Her father says that he is going to sell a new model of car that runs on electricity. This type of car does not require gas, so it's better for the environment. Muffy's father then convinces this car company to buy some electric buses for the school, which they do. Ms. MacGrady is thrilled by this and the kids praise Muffy for talking to her father. The episode ends with all of them riding in an electric bus.
7. In "Truth or Poll", which kids take polls?

Answer: Brain and Binky

Binky fails a math test because he did not study or do the homework. He says it is too hard, but most of the other kids do not agree. To trick the kids into agreeing him him, Binky asks the poll question "Could the math test have been easier?" 99% say "Yes." Brain says "No." Brain is angry because that is not a good question. Binky takes more polls with misleading questions to get the school to do things his way. It works, but Brain is onto him. Brain takes some misleading polls of his own to teach Binky a lesson.

This results in a war that lasts throughout most of the episode. Near the end, Ms. MacGrady polls the other kids if they want Brain and Binky to stop taking polls. They all say "Yes." She explains to them that polls are good, but it's important for the questions to be good questions. Binky admits that he should have studied for the math test. Brain admits that he got just as carried away as Binky did. The two of them make amends.
8. In "Citizen Cheikh", we learn that when you become an American Citizen, you have to stop enjoying things from your home country and you are only allowed to enjoy American things.

Answer: False

Cheikh's parents are thrilled when they pass their citizenship test. It means they will be American citizens. Cheikh does not like the idea because he thinks he will not longer be allowed to enjoy fatayas or support his favorite African wrestler, he'll have to stop playing African drums and he will only be allowed to enjoy American things.

His mother tells him that he does not have to do those things. His cousin, Brain, explains that American is made up of all different cultures from around the world, so you can love your African culture and still be an American citizen.

When they become citizens, their pre-school celebrates. The mother brings fatayas for everyone and the father plays African drums for the kids to dance to.
9. In "When Duty Calls", who moves to Oregon?

Answer: Ladonna and Bud

Ladonna and Bud live in a military family, so they move all the time. They move from Louisiana to Elwood City in their debut appearance, the season 16 episode "Based on a True Story". In the season 23 episode "When Duty Calls", they move away. They stay in touch with their Elwood City friends via a website that Brain starts. The website allows them to video chat and post pictures. We see Fern and Ladonna video chatting with each other at the end of the episode.

Ladonna and Bud are not off the show after this. Bud plays a major role in three later episodes: "D.W. and Dr. Whosit", "D.W.'s New Best Friend", and "All Will be Revealed". He returns to Elwood City in "All Grown Up". Ladonna also plays a major role in a later episode: the season 25 episode "Arthur's New Old Vacation". She also makes silent cameos in the season 24 episodes "George Scraps His Sculpture" and "Freaky Tuesday". That's because these episodes take place before they move to Oregon.
10. In "The Pea and the Princess", who gets the role of the pea?

Answer: Binky

Prunella directs a play of her own creation that is loosely based on the fairy tale "The Princess and the Pea". Binky does the best audition and gets the lead role: the pea. The other actors do not like Prunella's play because there are two princesses (Francine and Muffy) when the original fairy tale had just one princess, the horse has two behinds and no head, and there's a talking pea. On the day of the performance for the pre-schoolers, Prunella breaks her ankle. Francine steps in and becomes the new director and she changes the parts that she does not like and she fires Binky.

The problem is, the actors had no time to rehearse Francine's vision and learn their new lines, so the performance is a disaster. Prunella scolds Francine for changing it because it was Prunella's play, not Francine's. Francine admits that Prunella was right. For the performance for the parents, Prunella re-directs the play. Binky is re-hired; he is praised as the star of the show.

He says that Prunella is the real genius.
