Arthur's First Day Trivia Quiz

Buster brought a lot of lucky charms to school because he thought they would help the chances of him and Arthur being in the same class. D.W. told him they wouldn't work. D.W. may be a spoiled brat, but she was right about this. Arthur has Mr. Ratburn again but Buster has Ms. Grimslid. They are both sad when they find this out but they accept it.

Buster finds a key and an index card in his desk. It turns out to be the beginning of a scavenger hunt. The index card says that it is half of a clue and the other half is right beside him. Samir's desk has an index card with the number 39 on one side and "Together you can unlock the mystery" written on the other side. Buster and Samir decide that the key must unlock locker 39. They find locker 39 and discover that it is the only locker with a key lock (the other lockers have combination locks.) They open the locker and find an index card that says "No man is an island."

Neither of them know what it means, but Sue Ellen overhears Buster telling Arthur about it. She says that it is a poem and she recites it for Buster.

D.W. is enraged when her nametag says "Dora" instead of D.W., because she hates her full name. The teacher tells her that her name is also Dora. D.W. is surprised by this because the only other Dora she knows is the baby llama in "The Rhythm and Roots of Arthur" which D.W. got to name.

Alex has always been around, but he was almost always a silent background character. He had speaking roles as far back is season one in "Buster's Dino Dilemma" and "Francine Frensky, Superstar". In "Elwood City Turns 100", he was planted in the audience to ask a question.

However, he'd never been given a major role or a name in the first 24 seasons. His first major appearance is in "Arthur's First Day". He's in Mr. Ratburn's class and he sits at Buster's former desk (Arthur knows that because there is an old sandwich in Alex's desk and only Buster keeps old food) which is right next to Arthur's desk. Arthur and Alex become friends.

The Big Buddy program involves fourth graders and kindergarteners. Each fourth grader in the program is paired with a kindergartener to help the younger kid with whatever he or she needs on his or her first day of elementary school. Muffy volunteers because she wants to prove how responsible she is. Francine volunteers too.

Francine's buddy is Timmy Tibble. That goes as well as she expects. Muffy's buddy is Emily. Muffy is thrilled by this because she thinks that she and Emily will get along very well.

D.W. wins friends by building a tower out of blocks. They think it's the tallest tower they've ever seen, but she says she built taller towers when she was in pre-K. D.W. becomes even more popular when her father comes into the classroom. He came for two reasons.

The first reason is the D.W. forgot her lunch and he brought it. The second reason was to give all the kids a cupcake to celebrate their first day of school. After this, D.W. becomes popular.

Emily's nametag will not stay on her shirt and the teacher forgets her name. She accidentally gets paint on herself and several of the other kids and angers those kids. D.W. tells everyone that Emily eats liver (it's true, but apparently the other kids think that's a reason to hate Emily). D.W. becomes popular, which enrages Emily, who knows D.W.'s true colors.

Muffy gives Emily a tour of the school. At one point, Emily tells Muffy that she is going to the bathroom. Muffy does not listen because she is paying too much attention to the trophy case. Muffy does not notice that Emily is not there until she is back at the kindergarten classroom. Emily leaves the bathroom and sees that Muffy isn't there.

She walks the hallways calling for Muffy and feeling sad. When Emily sees the tough customers, she is terrified. They let her know that they are harmless now. Molly takes Emily back to class.

Then, Molly tells Muffy that she is a terrible big buddy. Muffy is not pleased to hear the truth.

Rattles did not have any friends when he started fourth grade and it took him a long time to meet people he liked. He decided to hide a note in his old desk and the desk next to it so that the next kids to sit there would get to know each other. The kids who sat at those desks were Buster and Samir and they agree that the project worked.

D.W. gives Emily a lucky charm and asks her to make a wish. Emily does so, but she cannot tell anyone what it is until it comes true. After a bad first day as a big buddy, Muffy runs after Emily and apologizes for losing her and promises to be better. Emily accepts the apology and says that her wish came true, which was to make at least one new friend that day.
