Answer: Juliet

The first documented performance of the play "Romeo and Juliet" was in 1662. It was staged by William Davenant who himself was a poet and playwright. Davenant also believed himself to be the the son of William Shakespeare, but this was never proven.
Although there had been films made of the play since the early 1900's, the first major production was that released by the MGM studio in 1936. The two leading roles in this production were taken by Leslie Howard and Norma Shearer.
2. Which state in the U.S. is associated with a song about a yellow rose?

Answer: Texas

The song "The Yellow Rose of Texas" was made popular by Mitch Mitchell in his recording of 1955. The song, however, goes back much further than this, with the earliest published version being dated September 2, 1858. The original author of the song is unknown although various identities have been suggested over the years.

The film was originally to be called "The Pearl" and recount the life story of the rock performer Janis Joplin. However, the Joplin family refused permission for the rights of her story to be used as a basis for the film. In light of this the film title was changed to "The Rose" and the storyline fictionalised.
Pearl was Janis Joplin's nickname and the title of her final posthumously released album.

The Wars of the Roses began in 1455 and ended with the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485. This battle saw the death of the Richard III, of the House of York. Henry Tudor, of the House of Lancaster, was then crowned King of England.
Both houses had a rose as their emblem, white for York and red for Lancaster. In 1486 Henry VII married Elizabeth of York thereby uniting the two rival houses. The emblem of the House of Tudor was the combining of the white and red rose emblems and is known as the Tudor Rose.

The house in the Stephen King mini-series was based in Seattle, Washington. The house used in the filming of the series was Thornewood Castle, near Tacoma, Washington. The idea for the series, was inspired by an actual mansion situated in San Jose, California called Winchester Mansion which Stephen King had read about when he was a young boy.

Hildesheim is a city in Germany. According to legend, should this rose bush cease to flourish, then the city of Hildesheim will also fall into decline and perish. In the second World War the cathedral itself was destroyed by allied bombers but the rosebush survived the onslaught.

The Kentucky Derby is held annually at Churchill Downs, Louisville, Kentucky. It is a race for three year old thoroughbreds and the first leg of the horse racing's Triple Crown. It is often dubbed the "most exciting 2 minutes in sport".

It's relatively easy to grow, disease resistant, and it has medium pink flowers with a mild fragrance.

The U.S. Senate passed a resolution in 1985 that declared the rose as the National Floral Emblem. The House of Representatives passed the Senate Joint Resolution 159 on September 23, 1986. President Reagan signed the resolution on October 7, 1986. On November 20, 1986 in a ceremony held in the Rose Garden of the White House the rose was formally proclaimed as The National Floral Emblem of the United States of America.
