Answer: Fly in it

A blimp is an airship without an internal metal frame. Many are used for advertising purposes and as stable flying platforms for TV cameras covering major sporting events. 6. Which professions would be most concerned with a unit of measurement called the "column inch"?

Answer: journalism and publishing

The term "column inch" developed in the newspaper and print publishing industry. Historically, newspapers were laid out in columns of uniform width, and the height of the content was measured in inches. So, a column inch would be the space taken by one inch of content down a column.

This unit of measurement became important for pricing advertisements. For example, if an ad was three columns wide and two inches tall, it would be priced for six column inches of space. Even though in the 21st century many newspapers and magazines have shifted from print to digital platforms that aren't bound by traditional physical layouts, column inches are still relevant for print publications or hybrid models where both print and digital versions coexist.

8. When a tsunami struck Japan in 2011, a football belonging to a teenager was washed away. Where, some 3,300 miles away, was it found a year later?

Answer: Alaska

More than 15,000 people died, homes and business were destroyed and several nuclear power stations were wrecked in the March 2011 disaster. Misaki Murakami was one of those whose family lost all they possessed. A year later, a football (soccer ball) with his name on it was found 3,350 miles away at Middleton Island, Alaska.

But it was pure chance that allowed it to be returned, for the ball was found by David Baxter, whose Japanese wife, Yumi, was able to read an inscription on the ball. [Source: The Times, April 2012]

10. Which American inventor created the bread-slicing machine?

Answer: Otto Rohwedder

Before the invention of the bread slicer, people either baked their own bread at home or purchased a loaf then cut it at home. It was July 7, 1928, when the first loaves of pre-sliced bread in history were produced in Missouri. The man behind this invention was American inventor Otto Rohwedder, who sold his first bread-slicing machine to Frank Bench, the owner of Chillicothe Baking Company.

Many bakeries in the Midwest soon followed, purchasing Rohwedder's invention, and sliced bread became instant sensation. To date, Chillicothe, Missouri, is considered the "birthplace of the sliced bread".
