Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Equal amounts of steamed milk, and foam poured into an espresso

Answer: Cappuccino

One of the most basic of the coffees, and yet still one of the most delicious. The cappuccino is enjoyed by those who either can't take the direct hard coffee flavour of an espresso or by those who have a bit of time and want to sip their coffee rather than throw it back.

While espresso is served in almost shot glass looking cups the cappuccino is served in a larger cup and topped with foam. These days that foam is also shaped into beautiful patterns or even pictures.
2. Frozen, espresso-based drink with creme

Answer: Frappuccino

Kleenex, Thermos, Hoover, Rollerblades, Google...all brand names that have become regular words. This is also true with the Starbucks creation, the Frappuccino. Basically, an over-sugared coffee slushie (see what I did there) the Frappuccino has become so popular that most cafes now produce a facsimile of it for their customers. Though of course, they are not allowed to call it a Frappuccino, even if their customers sometimes do.
3. This drink consisting of coffee, whisky, sugar, creme will keep you warm

Answer: Irish Coffee

Great in the winter or for an after-dinner treat this warming drink goes down smooth. That said, you do need to watch out for some things. First, never use top-shelf whisky or whisky that is too peaty. The heat of the coffee masks the flavour of good whisky but can't cover the taste of a strong peat. Second, drink the coffee fairly soon after making as the heat causes the alcohol to evaporate. Finally, relax and enjoy.

This is one of the most pleasant coffees around.
4. A double short of espresso to really get you going

Answer: Doppio

For any Italian speakers taking this quiz, the name of the drink was a dead giveaway - doppio simply means double. A doppio is served in a small (60-100ml) cup and often drunk like a shot. When visiting Italy before the turn of the century, one could see these little doppio stalls everywhere. You would run up to one, grab a quick slug of coffee, and be on your way.
5. A full cup of regular coffee with an added shot of espresso

Answer: Red Eye

This, along with its stronger cousin, the black eye (two espresso shots), will absolutely pick you up from a hard night before. It got its name from the early morning/late night flights that business people need to take. No good sleep and you still need to be up and ready to work - though your red eyes from lack of sleep are a giveaway that you might not be 100%. Throw back a red eye coffee and you will be ready for the rest of the day...until the flight back that is.
6. A shot of espresso in a tall glass served with a scoop of ice cream

Answer: Affogato

This almost didn't make the cut for coffee, because it is nearly as much a dessert as a drink. That said, what a great drink it is. If you make this, use premium ice cream and really good coffee beans. Let the espresso sit for a few minutes before pouring, and enjoy. Just make sure you have a spoon handy.
7. Fresh-brewed coffee with 1-2 tablespoons of oil one tablespoon of unsalted butter

Answer: Bulletproof

An interesting coffee from an interesting source. The American founder of the biohacking company, Dave Asprey, developed this coffee from a trip he took to Mongolia. There he was served tea with yak butter, liked it, and brought the idea back home and mixed it with coffee. It has a ton of calories, but as an occasional and unusual treat, it is worth drinking.
8. Unfiltered coffee grounds brewed in a small, hourglass shaped pot served in a standard cup

Answer: Turkish Coffee

Fantastic stuff. The finely-ground coffee is boiled in a tiny metal pot, traditionally over an open flame. You need to boil it slowly as it has a tendency to boil out of the pot. The coffee is served in tiny cups or glasses and often with large amounts of sugar. I know that the coffee cannot actually dissolve in the water, but Turkish tastes like melted coffee beans with a kick to match.
9. A shot of Earl Grey tea with a shot of espresso topped with steamed milk and then milk foam

Answer: London Fog

Though this coffee is not for everyone, the name made it too good not to include in this list. Earl Grey tea with milk is a nice wind down drink to the end of a day, and the London Fog makes a good end-of-meal drink when you are not going to serve alcohol. Earl Grey has a citrus flavour that pairs well with coffee, but I find that it is better to just use regular coffee as espresso can cloud the Earl Grey taste.
10. Black coffee infused with gas giving it tiny bubbles and a smooth taste

Answer: Nitro

Nitro came out of the home-brewing beer crowd. They started to pump nitrogen gas into cold-brewed coffee. This forces out all of the oxygen in the coffee and stops oxidation. The flavour remains robust and tastes more like fresh brew even after hours of being made. It also has the added benefit of having tiny bubbles in it. The flavour is strangely like a Guinness beer.
