Look At Me, I'm Sandra Dee Trivia Quiz
1972 Broadway Lyrics
From 1972 to 1980, "Grease" ran on Broadway for over 3000 performances, a record at the time. One of the highlights of the show was Rizzo's performance of "Look At Me, I'm Sandra Dee". Do you remember the lyrics, slightly different from the movie.
The 1972 Broadway production of "Grease" did not have an identical soundtrack to the 1978 film starring Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta. The 1972 production included songs like "All Choked Up", "Those Magic Changes", and "Rock and Roll Party Queen". The "Grease" musical began in 1971 in Chicago and reached Broadway the next year. The musical was set in the 1950s at Rydell High School and told the love story between Sandy and Danny. The production ran from 1972 to 1980 on Broadway and reached 3,388 performances. It was included in the 1972 Tony Awards and "Grease" was nominated for seven Tony Awards.
The original cast in 1972 included Barry Bostwick as Danny, Carole Demas as Sandy, and Adrienne Barbeau as Rizzo. In future productions, replacement performers included Marilu Henner ("Taxi"), Patrick Swayze ("Ghost"), Richard Gere ("Pretty Woman"), and even John Travolta - who played Doody, not Danny like he did in the motion picture.
The song "Look At Me, I'm Sandra Dee" was performed by Rizzo, the leader of the Pink Ladies and girlfriend of Danny's friend, Kenickie. Sandy, Rizzo, and the Pink Ladies were having a slumber party and while Sandy was using the bathroom, Rizzo made up the spiteful song about straight-laced Sandy. In the 1978 film, the song referenced Elvis Presley but in the 1972 musical Sal Mineo's name is used in the song.
