Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

Love him or hate him, there is no denying that Stephen King is both prolific and able to produce some of literature's finest stories. Some of these are highlighted below. These collections have also been regarded highly by King's peers and this is reflected by a string of awards that now adorn King's shelf.

"Night Shift", released in 1978, is a collection of twenty short stories and, in 1980, it earned King the Balrog Award for the best achievement in speculative fiction. Four years later (1982) King would release "Different Seasons", a collection of four novellas. Among these were "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption", which became a 1994 film that was nominated for a Best Picture Oscar, and "The Body", which became the 1986 coming-of-age film "Stand By Me. The film also received an Oscar nomination, although this one was for Best Screenplay.

"Skeleton Crew" (1985) is a collection of twenty two short stories that earned King the Locus Award in 1986, and the set of novellas that make up "Four Past Midnight" (1990) won King the prestigious Bram Stoker Award for Superior Achievement in Dark Fantasy & Horror. From this collection, "Secret Window / Secret Garden" was adapted into a 2004 movie starring Johnny Depp, while "The Langoliers" had, previously, been turned into a two-part TV movie (1994).

"Nightmares & Dreamscapes" presented us with a further twenty two Stephen King short stories in 1994. "Hearts in Atlantis" and its three novellas came by in 1999 and two of its stories, "Low Men in Yellow Coats" and "Heavenly Shades of Night are Falling" would form the basis of the 2001 movie, "Hearts in Atlantis", which featured Anthony Hopkins. The most notable of the fourteen short stories in "Everything's Eventual" (2002) was "1408", which became the backbone of the chilling 2007 film (of the same name) starring John Cusack.

The thirteen short stories in "Just After Sunset" (2008) were so good that they earned King another Bram Stoker Award, as did his collection of four novellas in 2010's "Full Dark, No Stars". The latter would also earn King the British Fantasy Writer's Award in 2011 and it provide the source for the 2014 film "A Good Marriage", which featured Joan Allen and Anthony LaPaglia.

King's collection of twenty short stories, published as "The Bazaar of Bad Dreams" in 2015, won him the acclaimed Shirley Jackson Award for Outstanding Achievement in Psychological Suspense, while one of the four novellas in "If It Bleeds" (2020) provided the basis for the movie "The Life of Chuck" (2024), which starred Tom Hiddleston and Mark Hamill. Rounding off this collection are the twelve short stories that make up 2024's "You Like It Darker". Among these is the previously unpublished tale called "Rattlesnakes", which is set to become a sequel to King's 1981 classic "Cujo".
