7. Sixteen years ago, Carla Lemarchant's mother Caroline was convicted of the murder of her father, Amyas Crale. Caroline protested her innocence and died in prison a year later. Carla asks Hercule Poirot to clear her mother's name.
8. Hercule Poirot visits his dentist, Dr Morley. Later that day, Chief Inspector Japp informs Poirot that Dr Morley was found shot dead in his office shortly after that appointment. Subsequently two other patients who were also seen that day are murdered.
9. Sophia Leonides will not marry her fiance, Charles Hayward, until the killer of her grandfather is caught because, until then, she and her family are all suspects. Sophia is the prime suspect because her grandfather left almost his entire estate to her.
10. Hercule Poirot received a cryptic letter from Miss Amelia Barrowby indicating she has a problem, but she does not give details. He subsequently learnt of Miss Barrowby's death and, curiosity piqued, decided to visit the house and pretend to be ignorant of her demise.
