Riv Shiel was a Shistavenian wolfman who joined the Squadron at the same time as Gavin. He was killed in Michael A. Stackpole's "X-Wing: The Bacta War", wherein Rogue Squadron broke off from the Alliance and pursued Ysanne Isard.

When he was just a boy on Tatooine, Gavin harbored a crush on Leia, who later wed Han Solo. The other three choices are people who have been affiliated with Rogue Squadron.
