He reluctantly took the mission after being offered a new ship as a pre-payment enticement. Will he succeed? And will he ever let his apprentice fly his new ship? You must see the movie to find out!
Din Djarin, the Mandalorian or Mando, was played by Pedro Pascal. Mando was tired and really would have liked to have a respite from his bounty hunting for Imperial warlords. He obviously felt duty-bound, however, and the New Republic needed his special talents.
The New Republic was the governing body that was formed by the Rebel Alliance after its victory over the Galactic Empire and defeat of Emperor Palpatine. Its work was not finished. There were still several Imperial officers who need to be assimilated into the new order, and some who were still loyal to what was left of the Imperial government.
Commander Ward, played by Sigourney Weaver, was Mando's contact in the New Republic. She was in charge of assigning the bounty hunters who searched for the remaining Imperial loyalists. Ward sensed that it would take something really special to convince Mando to leave immediately on another mission.
Mando's pre-payment for his new assignment was a newly renovated Razor Ship, described as a heavily armed ST-70 assault ship, which served as both his gunship and living quarters. His old ship had been destroyed, so he was definitely in need of a new one.
Unable to decline the new Razor Ship, Mando accepted the assignment to search for an Imperial warlord who was so mysterious that no one even knew what he looked like. All he knew was that his name was Coin and the Hutt Twins, who ruled the empire on Tatoonie that had belonged to their cousin, Jabba the Hutt, claimed to have information about him. The Hutt Twins, however, were not ready to tell what they knew until their nephew Rotta was freed from his kidnapper, Janu.
Rotta was being held on the planet Shakari, and was being forced to fight as a gladiator in Janu's arena. Janu had promised to release Rotta after he won just one more fight, however, Mando learned that Janu had other plans. Rotta did not believe that Janu would double cross him and resisted being rescued by Mando. He liked being a fighter and living away from the shadow that had been cast by his evil father, Jabba. He told Mando that there was only one reason the Hutt Twins cared about where he was - they wanted him dead so they had no opposition to their rule.
He also told Mando that Janu and Coin were the same person. Mando decided to believe Rotta, and helped him go into hiding. The illusive Coin was captured and turned in to the New Republic. Just when it seemed that the story was over, Mando had to deal with the Hutt Twins. Apparently Rotta had told him the truth, and they were not about to accept the fact that Mando hadn't delivered him to them.
The movie featured a lot of cuteness from Grogu, Mando's apprentice. It was obvious that he had trained to become a Jedi warrior, however, Mando adopted him as his son because Grogru wanted to stay with him, and Mando wanted him to stay. His powers were similar to Yoda's; for example, he used the Force to rescue Rotta and heal Mando when he was injured. He just can't speak yet, so he hasn't taken the Mandalorian Creed. And, Mando thought Grogu was definitely too small to fly the Razar Crest!
