Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Return of the Great Adventure. (Raiders of the Lost Ark)

Answer: The man with the hat is back.

Also billed as "the new hero", the first movie in the "Indiana Jones" franchise, "Raiders of the Lost Ark" was released in 1981. An archaeologist and college professor, Indiana Jones is also quite an adventurer, adept with a whip and wearing a fedora that he had been given as a teenager by a treasure hunter named Garth.

Indy had stolen the Cross of Coronado from Garth, only to have it taken by the sheriff and returned to the treasure hunter and his gang. While there was a sequel in between, "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" (1984), the story of Indiana's hat is revealed at the beginning of "The Last Crusade" (1989), and another character is introduced - alluding to the tagline's second sentence, "And this time, he's bringing his Dad".

In this movie, both Joneses, Jr. and Sr., are working against time to find the Holy Grail before the Nazis can, as Henry Jones Sr. is a Grail scholar and has a diary which contains information from years of research regarding the sacred artifact.
2. The greatest fairy tale never told. ("Shrek")

Answer: Once upon another time...

"Shrek" (2001) is the story of an ogre whose swamp becomes overrun by fairy tale characters after they are exiled there by the evil Lord Farquaad. Shrek is forced to bargain with Lord Farquaad, agreeing to rescue Princess Fiona in exchange for the relocation of the fairy tale characters out of his swamp.

The princess, however, harbors a secret. Cast under a magic spell, she turns into a ogre herself from sunset to sunrise. Fiona and Shrek fall in love and are married at the end of the movie. "Shrek 2" (2004) is the story of the newlyweds finding happiness ever after as they are - ogres; after accepting an invitation to attend a ball from Fiona's parents, Fiona and Shrek are brought into an argument between Fairy Godmother and Harold, Fiona's father. Apparently they had made an agreement that Fiona would marry Prince Charming, who is Fairy Godmother's son.

In the end, true love conquers all, and the newlyweds receive Harold's blessing.
3. He rules the roads. ("Mad Max")

Answer: Ruthless..Savage.. Spectacular

Max Rockatansky, played by Mel Gibson, is the best officer of the Australian Highway Patrol agency which is called the Main Force Patrol.

He is given the mission to eliminate one of the gangs, however, his mission becomes personal when he must protect his family from the gang's wrath. After both losing his son and his wife, the traumatized Max sought revenge on the motorcycle gang, only to return in "Mad Max 2", which was also called "The Road Warrior" (1981), to find another gang terrorizing a group of people who live in a gasoline refinery.

In a world suffering from a severe shortage of fuel, Max befriends the group and helps them move their fuel reserves to safety.
4. The legend begins. ("Batman Begins")

Answer: Why So Serious?

After the death of his parents, billionaire Bruce Wayne traveled to Asia, seeking ways to combat injustice in the 2005 "Batman Begins". After training with the League of Shadows, he eventually returned to Gotham City, and became the vigilante crime fighter, Batman, a decision that was based on his childhood fear of bats.

His nemesis in this movie is The Scarecrow, however, there is another person, one who Batman knows well, who is also threatening Gotham City. Eight years later, in the sequel, "The Dark Knight" (2008), Batman reappears to protect the city from the insane Joker, who was given the sadistic smile by his own father. Apparently as a child he was too serious after watching the knifing of his mother by his father. Batman finds that he must also check some of his own dark tendencies in order to become a trusted hero.
5. A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away... ("Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope")

Answer: The battle continues...

"Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope" (1977) introduced the characters and set the stage for the franchise sequel, "Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back" (1980). Although Luke, Han, Chewbacca, Pricess Leia, the droids and the Rebel Alliances are able to destroy the evil Death Star, there is a price to pay. Now they are pursued by Darth Vadar, and not only that! Luke is studying with the Jedi master, Yoda, and Han is captured by Darth Vadar, frozen in carbonite, and taken to Jabba the Hutt.

There's still more! Luke also discovers that Darth Vadar is actually his father! The rebel cause, for the time being, looks bleak.
6. Kiss me and I'll claw you to death! ("The Cat People")

Answer: Strange Forbidding Thrilling

In "The Cat People" (1942), Serbian Irena Dubrovna moves to New York City, but is haunted by stories about people from her village about women who practice witchcraft and evil; when they experience strong emotion it is said that they can even turn into panthers.

In spite of her fears, she falls in love and marries Oliver. Her husband sends her to a psychiatrist, however, when she becomes so frightened by her belief in the folktale that she refuses to sleep with him. Her visits at the psychiatrist reveal that Irena believes she is descended from the evil women.

When Oliver falls in love with Alice, a woman in his office, Irena does find that the folk tale was more than just a story. The "Curse of the Cat People" (1944) features Oliver and Alice's daughter, Amy, who is visited by the ghost of Irena. Irena becomes Amy's guardian angel and protects her from the jealousy of the daughter of an elderly actress who lives nearby.
7. Buzz Off ("Toy Story")

Answer: The toys are back in town.

Do toys really have the same feelings as people? The tale of "Toy Story" (1995) would suggest that they do! Andy's favorite toy, Woody, who is a cowboy doll, is upset when his status appears to have been usurped by Buzz Lightyear, an action figure. Along with Andy's other toys, the two toys must work together, however, when Andy's toy-abusing neighbor, Sid, becomes their new owner.

They must escape his torment, and make it back to Andy before his family moves to a new house. In "Toy Story 2" (1999), the story centers around what happens to old and broken toys.

The toys must again rescue Woody, who has a torn right arm, after he is stolen by a toy collector who intends to sell him and some of the other toys from "Woody's Roundup" to a customer in Japan. Woody and the other toys are rescued by Buzz and the rest of Andy's toys, and return home where they are once again loved by Andy.
8. Here comes the bride ("Kill Bill: Vol. 1")

Answer: Revenge is a dish best served cold.

Pregnant with Bill's child, the Bride tried to escape her past, but Bill kills her fiance on their wedding day, massacring other people at the wedding as well, and leaves her for dead.

She wakes up four years later to find that there is no child. With revenge in mind, she searches for the other members of the squad and begins killing them one by one. Released in 2004, in "Kill Bill: Vol. 2" the Bride, who we learn is Beatrix Kiddo, returns to complete her revenge on who she believes is the last person on her list - Bill himself.

Answer: All the power on earth can't change destiny.

Vito's youngest son, Michael, just home from fighting in WWII, is not interested in continuing on in the family business.

When his father is shot by a rival Mafia family, however, Michael changes his mind, and upon the death of his father, he becomes the new Don. "Godfather 2" (1974) follows up with two story lines - there are flashbacks chronicling events in the life of Vito Corleone that led eventually led to his immigration to America and his leadership of a Mafia family, and the story continues regarding events in Michael's life, who assumes his destiny of taking over the family business.
10. His name is Bond; James Bond. ("Dr. No")

Released in 1965, "Thunderball" was the fourth "James Bond" movie.

This time Bond is sent to the Bahamas in order to recover nuclear warheads belonging to NATO that have been stolen by SPECTRE.

Not only does Bond foil the bad guys' plans (once again), he also saves Miami Beach, and, as in "Dr. No", appears to get the pretty girl!
