It is often assumed, rightly or wrongly, that most of the rock bands originate in the UK or the United States. Until I did the research, I have to admit that one or two of the bands I've listed never crossed my mind as being from Australia. These Australian bands have often brought a unique sound and perspective to the global music scene, blending various genres and influences. Notable examples include AC/DC and INXS, both of which have received international acclaim and a loyal fan base.
Australian bands like AC/DC, INXS, and Savage Garden were popular both in the UK and America, although a few of the bands I've listed are now disbanded. The good news is there are now new bands from the 1990s and onwards that have replaced some of the old bands from the past. One of the big bands from Australia has to be AC/DC. Although the brothers Malcolm Young and Angus Young were born in Scotland, they formed the band in Sydney, Australia, in 1973. Over the years, there have been a few line-ups of the band. The members in the band from when this quiz was written are Angus Young, Phil Rudd, Cliff Williams, Brian Johnson, and Stevie Young. The band's debut album was "High Voltage", which was released in 1975.
Back in the day, INXS was one of the highest-selling music acts in Australia. They were led by their frontman Michael Hutchence, who was also a co-founder of the band. The name "INXS" was first used on 1 September 1979. Previously, the band was known as the "Farriss Brothers". Although the band sold over 50 million albums, they never really reached the dizzy heights of some bands, with only a few of their albums reaching the top ten in the albums chart in the US and the UK. Nevertheless, a great band from down under.

Little River Band formed in Melbourne in March 1975. "Help Is on Its Way", was the band's first number one hit on the Australian Kent Music Report singles chart. The song also reached number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Men at Work had a huge hit with their song "Down Under" which topped the charts in several countries in the early 1980s. The band's debut studio album was called "Business as Usual", which was a number one hit in the UK and Australia.
Skyhooks were formed in 1973 in Melbourne. The band's classic line up consisted of Graham "Shirley" Strachan, Red Symons, Bob "Bongo" Starkie, Greg Macainsh and Imants Alfred "Freddie" Strauks. The debut album was titled "Living in the 70s", which was released on 28 October 1974.
Cold Chisel's debut album was called "Cold Chisel", released in April 1978. The genre of the album was pub rock.
Air Supply is a duo that got together in 1975. Graham Russell, who came from England, joined Australian Russell Hitchcock. The duo had several big hits in the early 1980s with songs like "All Out of Love", "Every Woman in the World", "The One That You Love", and "Here I Am".
The name 'Icehouse' was first used in 1981. Before the name change, the band was known as "Flowers". Since 1977 the band has played a mixture of rock, new wave and synth-pop. Their first album under the name of Icehouse was titled "Primitive Man", released on 20 September 1982.
