Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What Beach Boys song is about Santa?

Answer: Little Saint Nick

Brian Wilson and Mike Love wrote "Little Saint Nick" in 1963. That December, it was released as a single, and in 1964, it was included on "The Beach Boys' Christmas Album." The song reached number three on the charts.

Part of the song was inspired by their song "Little Deuce Coupe," which was recorded six months before "Little Saint Nick."

It has been performed by Toni Tennille (with her sisters), Joshua Bassett & Matt Cornett, the Gay Men's Choir of Los Angeles, and Lady A.
2. What 1963 girls' group first recorded "My Boyfriend's Back"?

Answer: The Angels

Bob Feldman, Jerry Goldstein, and Richard Gottehrer wrote "My Boyfriend's Back" in 1963 originally for the Shirelles. However, the Angels ended up being the first to record the song. It reached number one on the charts. "Billboard" named this song 24th on their "100 Greatest Girl Group Songs of All Time."

The song has also been covered by the Chiffons, Martha and the Vandellas, and the Chippettes (the female equivalent of The Chipmunks).
3. Which of these girl groups originally recorded the song "One Fine Day"?

Answer: The Chiffons

Gerry Goffin and Carole King wrote the song "One Fine Day." The song was inspired by an aria from Puccini's opera "Madame Butterfly." The Chiffons recorded the song in 1963, and it reached number five on the charts. The song was also ranked 460th on "Rolling Stone Magazine"'s list "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time."

The song has since been covered by other artists such as Carole King, who recorded the song she co-wrote in 1980. Her version reached number 12 on the charts. Jacky Mouliere covered a French version of the song called "Un beau jour." Cliff Richards, The Carpenters, and others also covered the song.
4. Johnny Cash sang about falling in a "Ring of _____" what?

Answer: fire

June Carter-Cash and Merle Kilgore wrote "Ring of Fire." Anita Carter (June's sister) was the first to record the song under the title ("Love's) Ring of Fire." However, it was when June's husband, Johnny Cash, recorded it that it became popular, reaching number one on the charts. Cash's version added the trumpets. Cash said he had a dream, and heard the song with "Mexican horns."

Country Music Television named it the fourth greatest country song of all time. In 1999, the Cash version was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

Johnny Cash's first wife, Vivian, claimed that Johnny Cash wrote the song while high on drugs. She despised June, so whether this is true or not cannot be verified. However, June is the one who got the credit.

June Carter-Cash, Alan Jackson, Social Distortion, and Wuki are some of the artists who have covered the song.

In the 2005 biopic film, "Walk the Line," Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon sang "Ring of Fire." The two played Johnny and June Carter-Cash.

It was not until The Carpenters recorded the song in 1970 that it became a hit. Their version reached number one on the charts. The Carpenters also won a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Performance by a Duo, Group or Chorus in 1971.

Some of the other artists who covered the song include Johnny Mathis, Andy Williams, Gwen Guthrie, and The Cranberries.
