Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Lyric: "____ is traveling tonight on a plane / I can see the red tail lights heading for Spain."

Answer: Daniel

"Daniel" was the opening track on Elton John's sixth studio album "Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player" from 1973. The lyrics were written by Bernie Taupin and were inspired by a true-life story he read about a wounded Vietnam Veteran who wanted to get away from all the attention, good and bad, he was receiving.
2. Title: "Hey ____".

Answer: Jude

"Hey Jude" was released in 1968 as a single by The Beatles. Paul McCartney wrote the song to comfort John Lennon's son Julian (five at the time) after Lennon had separated from Julian's mother, Cynthia.
3. Lyric: "A modern day warrior, mean, mean stride / Today's ___ ____"

Answer: Tom Sawyer

We can thank the Canadian band Rush for the 1981 anthem "Tom Sawyer". The song was the opener to the Rush album "Moving Pictures".
4. Lyric: "Hey, ___, where you going with that gun in your hand?"

Answer: Joe

"Hey, Joe" was written in 1962 by the American musician Billy Roberts. Many acts have covered the song since, but probably the most popular was done by Jimi Hendrix. Hendrix first recorded "Hey, Joe" as a single in 1966, his first published song with his band The Jimi Hendrix Experience.
5. Title: "Dig, ______, Dig!!!"

Answer: Lazarus

Australian band Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds released the album "Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!" in 2008, containing a title track song. Songwriter and singer Nick Cave said the song was inspired by the Biblical story of Lazarus who was famously raised from the dead.
6. Lyric: "King _____ the wicked Oh, ruled his world _____spoke in class today"

Answer: Jeremy

Eddie Vedder wrote and sang "Jeremy" on the 1992 Pearl Jam album "Ten". Vedder drew inspiration for the song from two real-world sad incidents. The first was a 1991 suicide completed by high school student Jeremy Delle in front of his English class in Richardson, Texas. Vedder also said he had a junior high school friend in San Diego, California who shot others in their school.
7. Title: "Abraham, ____, and John"

Answer: Martin

"Abraham, Martin, and John" was written in 1968 by Dick Holler following the assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert Kennedy earlier that year. Although not listed in the title, Robert Kennedy is included in the lyrics as "Bobby", his popular nickname.

The song was almost immediately covered by many artists including Dion, Smokey Robinson, Moms Mabley, and Marvin Gaye. The three title names refer to Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr., and John Kennedy, all assassinated American leaders.
8. Title: "Uncle _____/Admiral Halsey"

Answer: Albert

"Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey" was written by Paul and Linda McCartney in 1971, and it became Paul's first gold record after the breakup of The Beatles. Paul had an Uncle Albert Kendall that the song was addressed to, symbolizing the older generation that McCartney was feeling increasing isolated from. Admiral Halsey is a symbol of the American influence on Uncle Albert's British generation.
9. Lyric: "Careful with That Axe, _____"

Answer: Eugene

"Careful with That Axe, Eugene" was first recorded as a single in 1968 by the English band Pink Floyd. The song is mainly an instrumental, with the title words also being the only lyrics, but Roger Waters screams and David Gilmour includes some scat vocals in the piece.
10. Title: "____ Jones"

Answer: Casey

"Casey Jones" appeared on the 1970 Grateful Dead album "Workingman's Dead". The Dead also performed the traditional song "The Ballad of Casey Jones" that told the story of real-life railroad engineer John Luther "Casey" Jones who died in a train collision in 1900.

The Dead's original "Casey Jones" was also based on Jones' story, but is less accurate and more playful than the traditional ballad.
