Songs with one-word titles will include a hint. For example, if this quiz was about Michael Jackson, this one-word title would be a "hair-raising" song. Then you'd choose the word "Thriller" as the answer, right?

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

Song 1) "Automatic Rainy Day"

Jane Wiedlin, Gina Schock and Steve Plunkett co-wrote the song "Automatic Rainy Day" on The Go-Go's album "God Bless The Go-Go's" in 2001.

Broadway actors Bonnie Milligan and Taylor Iman Jones also recorded "Automatic Rainy Day" on The Go-Go's soundtrack "Head Over Heels: A New Musical (Original Broadway Cast Recording)" on 12 Oct 2018.

According to a review of the album "God Bless The Go-Go's" on SputnikMusic, "Other strong tracks include 'Automatic Rainy Day,' about that one friend who can always manage to suck all the life out of a room" (Divaman, 2017), and PopMatters describes "Automatic Rainy Day" as "pissed-off" (PopMatters Staff, 2001).

Song 2) "Club Zero"

Jane Wiedlin, Belinda Carlisle, Charlotte Caffey, Gina Schock, Kathy Valentine and Anna Waronker co-wrote the song "Club Zero" and The Go-Go's released it as a non-album single on 31 Jul 2020.

Jane explains the song title during an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, "'I was reading about the Zero Zero Club, which was an underground, after-hours club in Hollywood in the Eighties,' Wiedlin says. 'I thought about how cool that title. I just felt that the point of that song was the perfect thing for the Go-Go's to say in 2020. We're not putting up with this whole boys' club anymore'" (Grow, 2020).

The Go-Go's defiant hit "Club Zero" ranked on two music charts for four weeks from 19 Sep to 9 Oct 2020 and from 15 to 21 Aug 2020 peaking at number seven on Billboard Rock Digital Song Sales and number 14 on Billboard Alternative Digital Song Sales.

Song 3) "Get Up and Go"

Jane Wiedlin and Charlotte Caffey co-wrote the song "Get Up and Go" on The Go-Go's album "Vacation" in 1982.

The Go-Go's chart hit "Get Up and Go" ranked on two music charts for nine weeks from 25 Sep to 26 Nov 1982 peaking at number 46 on Billboard Mainstream Rock and number 50 on Billboard Hot 100.

Three artists also recorded "Get Up and Go" on a single, album or soundtrack: The Blank Theory (1999), Jeremy Kushnier & Company (2018) and Pale Lips (2022).

The Go-Go's "Get Up and Go" was featured in Season 3 Episode 2 of "Stranger Things" (2019) and Season 1 Episode 4 of the "Gordita Chronicles" (2022).

Song 4) "I Think It's Me"

Belinda Carlisle and Charlotte Caffey co-wrote the song "I Think It's Me" on The Go-Go's album "Vacation" in 1982.

According to a review of the song "I Think It's Me" on Don Ignacio's Music Reviews, "Hey, bring me summa that surf-guitar! Whenever the Go-Go's emulate surf-rock, they seem to come off best. The melody isn't so much catchy, but that surf riff certainly is. As expected, this song has such nice flow; they're not letting our new wave party go" (Lawrence, n.d.).

Song 5) "La La Land"

Charlotte Caffey and Kathy Valentine co-wrote the song "La La Land" on The Go-Go's album "God Bless The Go-Go's" in 2001.

According to a review of the album "God Bless The Go-Go's" on SputnikMusic, "'La La Land,' the song that opens the album, is the band's in-your-face way of re-introducing themselves to their audience: 'Hello world we're here again...Living life in lalaland,' 'lalaland' in this case meaning both a state of unreality, and also, or [sic] course, the band's home base of Los Angeles" (Divaman, 2017).

The Go-Go's "La La Land" is featured in Season 2 Episode 11 of "The Hills" (2007).

Song 6) "Mercenary"

Jane Wiedlin, Charlotte Caffey and Kathy Valentine co-wrote the song "Mercenary" on The Go-Go's album "Talk Show" in 1984.

The Erratic Retaliator Strategy also recorded "Mercenary" on The Go-Go's tribute album "PRF 50 Tribute" (Premier Rock Forum 50th tribute album) by various artists on 31 Aug 2018.

Song 7) "Robert Hilburn"

The song "Robert Hilburn" is one of The Go-Go's earliest songs and not recorded on any album or single. According to Setlist.fm, The Go-Go's only performed "Robert Hilburn" two times during 1978.

Charlotte Caffey recalls The Go-Go's earliest songs during an interview with NPR Music, "Jane, Margot [Olavarria, the band's original bassist] and Belinda had written a couple of songs, and they were what you would expect from punk: They were overrun [song], with lyrics like, 'We want to overrun the city, the state, the world!' Then there was 'Robert Hilburn,' and a handful of other songs. I brought in a song...'How Much More,' from the first record...and Jane helped me finish it. It was a huge risk, because I knew that they were either gonna kick me out or love it" (Hughes, 2020).

Song 8) "Talking Myself Down"

Jane Wiedlin, Charlotte Caffey and Susanna Hoffs co-wrote the song "Talking Myself Down" on The Go-Go's album "God Bless The Go-Go's" in 2001.

According to a review of the album "God Bless The Go-Go's" on Space City Rock, "'Talking Myself Down' is hooked beautifully by Charlotte Caffey's piano and continues, by dint of its 'Caffey/Wiedlin/Hoffs' writing credit, down the slippery slope to Go-Go's/Bangles interchangeability (officially begun when Vicki Peterson sat in for the pregnant Caffey for a bunch of shows in 1994)" (Hirsh, 2002).

Susanna Hoffs and Vicki Peterson cofounded The Bangles in 1981.

Song 9) "Vacation"

Jane Wiedlin, Charlotte Caffey and Kathy Valentine co-wrote the title track "Vacation" on The Go-Go's album "Vacation" in 1982.

The Go-Go's chart hit "Vacation" ranked on 11 music charts in five countries for 14 weeks from 3 Jul to 8 Oct 1982 peaking at number six on the Cash Box Top 100.

Of The Go-Go's 11 chart hits, "Vacation" reached the music charts the quickest. After The Go-Go's released "Vacation" backed with "Beatnik Beach" as a single on 26 Jun 1982, "Vacation" debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 67 seven days later on 3 Jul 1982.

According to Kathy's autobiography "All I Ever Wanted: A Rock 'n' Roll Memoir," "Flying back to Los Angeles, I gazed out the window thinking about my time in Austin with him. I'd never had a real boyfriend before or ever felt like a guy cared about me. I wasn't his girl, and we weren't a couple, but my thoughts unfolded anyway with a rhyme and a rhythm: 'Now that I'm away, I wish I'd stayed...tomorrow's a day of mine you won't be in.' I scribbled all the lyrics out on airplane napkins and called the song 'Vacation' (Valentine, 2020).

Song10) "Worlds Away"

Jane Wiedlin and Kathy Valentine co-wrote the song "Worlds Away" on The Go-Go's album "Vacation" in 1982.

According to a review of the album "Vacation" on Don Ignacio's Music Reviews, "Hey, here's something different ["Worlds Away"]! It's a mid-tempoed tune. It's not a ballad, so they're not quite to that point of diversity. I like this smooth pace, and the melody is quite catchy. The instrumentation is a little synth heavier than they've been known for being, but this is still that great new wave band. I think they might have still made some creative arrangements, but there's not much to complain about here. This is a nice closer to the album 'cos it makes me smile" (Lawrence, n.d.).
