Answer: Mick Ronson

He was David Bowie's guitar player and would later become life-long partners with Ian Hunter, later to be known as the Hunter Ronson Band. He played on one song after joining which was Ian Hunter's fanfare "The Saturday Gigs". Bill Nelson was with Be Bop Deluxe, Marc Bolin was with T Rex, and Phil Manzanera was with Roxy Music.
10. Mott the Hoople tried to carry on without Ian Hunter. What was their new name?

Answer: Mott

They tried unsuccessfully under the name Mott and later had critical success as the British Lions. I love their version of "Wild in the Streets".
